Sony Pictures released this teaser trailer for David Fincher-directed and Aaron Sorkin-scripted The Social Network, with Zombieland‘s Jesse Eisenberg as Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg. The film debuts October 1.

I know this is just a teaser, but it makes the movie look like a $3 million indie film trying to be an $100 million + blockbuster studio pic which doesn’t feel congruent with the topic and scope.
Script is VERY good. If Fincher translates it well to film this thing may really freak people out. Keep an eye out for a mass facebook exodus. Also, won’t it be interesting to if we see a modern day W.R.Hearst/Citizen Kane situation w/ zuckerberg’s coverage of the movie…

a little too soon for this film to be coming out. at least “pirates of silicone valley” waited 20 years until it had a real story.

ooof! that’s a terrible trailer. Sorkin writes great dialogue – no knock on him – but I just don’t give a shit about the facebook backstory when that douchey, smug zuckerberg is everywhere already pimping facebook.
and it’s really not that revolutionary — friendster was first, then myspace etc. everyone just slightly improving that last incarnation.
ambitious, yes. genius, no. crazy, jack pot hitting — uh huh.
Contrast this self-imoprtant tone to the Middle Man trailer about the guys first making money off porn. That looks way more fun. And it’s refreshing not to see poor luke wilson desperately hawking cell phone service.
This on reeks off middle age guys getting together and saying “this social networking that the kids are doing, it’s so…interesting.”
I’m asleep already.

it’s going to be huge. You can’t buy the kind of word of mouth buzz that will happen between people on FB if this movie is solid.

This is a great trailer? Not to the audience Saturday at the AMC Santa Monica. This is a trailer rushed out by a studio when they can’t find enough cutable footage for something more visual.
Fincher’s a great stylist but needs a strong script. Nothing’s come close to Se7en, and some stuff, like Benjamin Buttons, is embarrassing.

This just looks terrible. Fincher/Sorkin – true – but I’m not sure Shakespeare would have much chance with the source material.

I’ve read the script, it’s been making it’s way around the assistant ranks. It’s really good. I was very surprised. Interesting story, good script, well framed. It should do very well in theaters.

read the book and thought it was terrific. If you have not read the book you would have no idea what the hell is going on here. This movie should have it all, much like the teaser say’s. Why not make it clearer what and who the movie is about. It often seems to me the filmmakers and studio marketing people just get too cute with these things instead of selling the many marketable elements from abest-selling book and award winning film team like this. Where’s the humor and irony found in the material. this almost feels like a murder mystery.

It’s Fincher man. What else is there to say?

The whole movie should have been shot like this. The only way to add subtext to a script loaded with literal dialogue and no visuals. It read like a radio play.
I’ve read the script, and not only is not good, it’s not even an accurate depiction of how Facebook was created. I don’t care that it’s a Fincher/Sorkin movie, it still has Justin Timberlake, which = poison.
A bunch of young, cocky nerds steal an idea and spend the rest of the movie drinking champagne in limousines fucking beautiful women, big deal. Just read the script. It’s going to bomb.

If that’s your synopsis of the script, then clearly you were reading something else–or more likely, didn’t even really read it. I did read the actual script and it’s very good. And by the way, this is not the full trailer, but rather a teaser, so it’s doing exactly what teasers do: tease, but not show too much. The real trailer will be amazing. The picture will not be a blockbuster, and no one behind it thinks it will be, but it will be a solid fall performer and will likely get some critical and possibly awards recognition.

Bomb. Let’s be honest… who the hell wants to spend $13 to watch how some punk kid is making billions off of my obsessive compulsive tendencies…??
Unless it’s in 3D. Then I’ll go see it.
Quite an amateurish trailer. The acting was so bad they had to resort to that?
It’s Aaron Sorkin and David Fincher. I’m in.
This film is going to be amazing. Hold your criticisms until you’ve read the script.
I didn’t mean to criticize anything except the trailer. Did it come out of a high school film class? Beyond terrible.
Could well be the most brilliant built-in marketing strategy in Hollywood history.
How many times do you think these trailer will be posted on Facebook between now and release date?
All FREE advertising.
Also doesn’t hurt that Sorkin wrote a pretty damn entertaining script.
