EXCLUSIVE: Jason O’Mara in talks to star in ‘Terra Nova‘
Jason O’Mara is finalizing his deal to star in Terra Nova, Fox’s midseason series produced by Steven Spielberg and Peter Chernin. The pact had been in the works for the past two weeks.
Terra Nova, one of the highlights at the Fox upfront presentation, centers on the Shannons, an ordinary family from 2149 when the planet is dying who are transported back 85 million years to prehistoric Earth where they join Terra Nova, a colony of humans with a second chance to build a civilization. O’Mara will play Jim Shannon, a devoted father with a checkered past who guides his family through this new land of limitless beauty, mystery and terror. Alex Graves recently came on board to direct the pilot for the series, which is produced by 20th TV, DreamWorks TV, Kapital Entertainment and Chernin Entertainment.

Would of watched if Kyle was the lead. Now, not so.
Jason is actually a really good actor. You should give him a shot. the show might not be, but he is.
Kyle Chandler is still working on Friday Night Lights. I don’t think he would have been able to take this role.

I heard it was offered to Kyle Chandler first, too, but don’t let that stop you from watching: Jason O’Mara is FANTASTIC. And let’s be honest — Coach Eric Taylor has been such a towering role for Chandler (at least in quality, if regrettably not in viewer recogition) that it will be very hard for anythng else he does to top that. After spending five seasons such a naturalistic show like Friday Night Lights, it’s possibler Chandler didn’t want to jump to a sci-fi show with lots of effects, etc. as his follow-up project. Who knows? In any case, this definately sounds like it’s in O’Mara’s wheelhouse — he was brilliant in Life on Mars — and I can’t wait to see what he does with this character.

Who is Kyle Chandler and why should I care?
On the NBC show Friday Night Lights, which is critically acclaimed series. Was also on the CBS show Early Edition. Most expect him to get alot of offers since Friday Night Lights is ending after season 5, which they are currently shooting right now.
Dead by December.
O’Mara is the only actor that has been cast. They haven’t even shot a Pilot yet as they are shooting this series on location in Australia. It will be lucky to even make air by Spring 2011.
Doesn’t sound like a little like _Land of the Lost_?
Echoing comments that Kyle Chandler is committed to the best show on television, “Friday Night Lights,” for the 2010/2011 season. Given that it shoots in Austin, TX, there’s no way he could have done this series as well.
Also, I have to say the show sounds horrendous to me. I liked Jason O’Mara in “Life on Mars” and can see him more in a role like this than Chandler, but I still won’t be watching- not interested in a dramatic take on “Land of the Lost.”
Time will tell. Choice is magic.. I will choose to give it a go..
I have been a fan of Jason O’Mara for a while. I loved him in Life on Mars. Let’s hope this is his breakout vehicle. I think he has the potential to become a big star. Good luck Jason.
