EXCLUSIVE: Bill Condon is bringing more feature talent to his HBO comedy pilot Tilda. In his first TV gig, Jason Patric has signed on to co-star opposite Diane Keaton in the project, which centers on Tilda (Keaton), a powerful female online Hollywood journalist with a no-holds-barred style. Patric will play her nemesis, Andrew Brown, the mastermind behind the media empire RMG, which Tilda is trying to expose the inner workings of. The cast for Tilda, which Condon wrote with Cynthia Mort, also includes Ellen Page and Wes Bentley. Filming is slated for June in Los Angeles. Patric, repped by ICM and Untitled, most recently co-starred in The Losers. His only previous TV stint was playing himself in an episode of HBO’ other Hollywood-centric comedy, Entourage.

So who plays David Geffen?
Let’s stop for a moment and think about the concept of this show. (Pause) Having done that, do you now see how “who gives a shit” it’s going to be? This is what will happen in every episode: Self-important “industry” types will get all upset at what Diane Keaton (Aka Nikke Finke) is about to go public with, and they will…yell, and scream at their assistants, and TRY TO STOP HER BECAUSE JOBS, CAREERS, AND LIVES WILL BE DAMAGED. Zzzzzzzzz.
Week in and week out…same damn thing. Only one week it’ll be exposing a studios back-handed deal with a star and his production company. Next week, the FBI has problems with another studios bookkeeping and nothing will stop Diane Keaton from going pubic. Ooohhh, go get ‘em, Lady!
Her assistant will be over-worked, under-appreciated, and show herself to be the true investigative reporter, but of course gets none of the glory. And in one very special episode, she’ll have an affair with someone who she’s doing research on, and oh no…what will she do, report what she knows, or not?? What drama! What originality!
And won’t it be a blast as the show gets all snarky and each week mentions make- believe celebrities that we’ll secretly know who they’re talking about? Oh, I cannot wait. I bet that was Tom Cruise they slammed. Hi-larious!
The only other thing worse than Hollywood, are the self-congratulatory shows about the idiots that make up Hollywood.
This show will get bad reviews, no audience, and be over in a year. But hey, pat yourselves on the back. You deserve it. Do you like applause? Okay then…there you go.
Good to know. Are there any other as yet unmade-shows you’d care to make up your mind about? The world is waiting for educated opinion.
Bob, Bob, Bob…Let me apologize to you. I am so sorry. So sorry. I was unaware until this moment in time that there exists one man on this planet – you, my dear oh-so-special-holy -one – who has never ever commented negatively upon seeing a PREVIEW of a film, it’s trailer. I was unaware that in your perfectly executed life up to this moment, that you and you alone have never ever said a bad word about a film, TV show, cd, art show, novel, or what have you before seeing it. You sir…are a remarkable man.
Oh but wait…you’re not. No sir. Far from it. You’re what I call a hypocrite. Because, Mr. Holier-than- thou, you judge thousands of things everyday of your life before seeing it, listening to it, or reading it. Only you don’t say it as funny or as insightful as I do. So go ahead and feel like you’re special for “awaiting judgement” until “Tilda” comes out…but the truth is you pick and choose your targets to judge. You happen to think “Tilda” might be good. Fine. I don’t. But if you ever saw a preview of a film and commented that it looked like crap and there’s no way you’d go see it…well, surprise, surprise. You just got called out, Buddy.
Ricardo whatever…
“Only you don’t say it as funny or as insightful as I do.”
Wow, your arm must be really sore from patting yourself on the back so much.
If you’re really that “funny or as insighful” why don’t you create a show of your own and then we can all mock it?
Called out? LOL. Hey fool, don’t make preview comparisons when you have seen NOTHING. Of course one can prejudge a film from a trailer, deciding that the acting is campy, or the cinematography cheap, or the storyline hackneyed. However, all that has been released is a premise and a director, and a sterling cast, and you tried to be be snarkier than Nikki Finke in your rip up. But the problem is that you arent a very good writer, and youre not funny. NO one needs to “call you out” , because as you can see from lack of replies in concert with your idiocy, you have done that to yourself.
I don’t hear applause for you Ricardo, sounds more like one hand doing something else involving oil and the internet.
Dick, you are at risk of overtaking Whiskey as the site’s most spectacular asshat. Take it elsewhere, please.
nothing will stop Diane Keaton from going pubic
I’d download that show!
OK, that was great.
Jason Patric is Hollywood’s unmined gem. I’d put his top six against anyones. I’ve always admired how he kept a low profile and was just about the work. He also has been taking chances for twenty years, material like RUSH way ahead of it’s time.
This casting instantly makes Tilda very exciting.
Even if you’re Patric’s manager… I totally agree. Despite a couple “wtf”-ly bad lines in The Losers, I thought his performance was hilarious and I’ve never disliked him in any role. I’m extraordinarily stoked for Tilda
JP is Furiously D-lish!!
And you’re not Furious D.
I thought the comment policy barred impersonation. Especially bad ones.
It’s actually kind of sad that someone’s life is so empty that they have nothing better to do than go after someone who comments on a blog for daring to comment on a blog.
So you don’t like me. So what.
Anyway, let’s not feed the trolls. Especially ones that feel the need to impersonate someone else to make themselves feel better about their worthless, empty lives.
The dumb little comment made me laugh. Get over yourself (should be easy) and calm down (WON’T be so easy).
How many Emmys will this grab up? I’m thinking it will snag everything it gets nominated for.
^ Agreed. This sounds like fun. Patric intrigues.
I really like that shirt tie combination. This “Tilda” will surely be a lavish banquet indeed, PUN INTENDED.
THIS is the best ICM could do for JP? That guy could headline any big-budget network pilot out there…and they have him playing a cheap Jeff Zucker clone. Ay yi yi!
Wow. HBO has gotten it’s mojo back with Treme, True Blood, Boardwalk Empire and Tilda. Treme and True Blood are adored by the critics. Now, all HBO needs to do is let go of Entourage.
Who said anything about Jeff Zucker?
I doubt Patric would want to headline a network show. If he did, he could have done it years ago. Sounds like he just found something interesting, enabling to make his smaller movies. He always surprises. I highly doubt you will be thinking Zucker when this airs and JP strolls in sexy and dangerous.
I agree with Peter, AMC and Showtime better watch out because with shows like Treme and True Blood getting rave reviews from the critics, HBO has gotten its creative edge back. And don’t forget that HBO has Boardwalk Empire and Game of Thrones coming up.
That’s quite a rug he’s sporting.
Jason Patrick. Thank you for making brave choices. You are incredible.
Thank you, sir.
Diane Keaton raises the acting level in everything she touches because she can humanize any character–likeable and/or unlikeable.
yeah, but does she have an awesome deb photo?
He looks a lot like Warren Beatty in that photo.
Jason P. gotta eat!
It is true, industry satires are deeply boring and culturally irrelevant, at this point. They also tend to be as dramatically inert as that other hbo story staple: the never-ending therapy session. Furthermore, while i really REALLY love your blog, nikki…. i couldn’t care less about your personal life or any show that attempts to present a thinly-veiled version of it.
The mere presence of the delicious Diane Keaton is enough to make me subscribe to HBO! Now how about a series for the eternally glorious, criminally underrated Jacqueline Bisset? These two icons of the 1970s are at the top of their game. Ms. Bisset has rarely been allowed to demonstrate her brilliant comedic flair. Now’s the time, HBO!
