EXCLUSIVE: GK Films partners Graham King and Tim Headington have re-cemented one of GK Films’ most important relationships, re-upping Johnny Depp’s Infinitum Nihil production shingle for another three years. Depp signed his first deal with King in 2004. Under the new deal, GK Films will fully finance and co-produce film and TV projects hatched by Depp and Infinitum Nihil president Christi Dembrowski. Deal comes at as King and Headington are poised to expand their company in big ways. They’ve hired Sony Pictures honcho Peter Schlessel to become president, and they are establishing an independent film distribution unit that will be run by respected vet Bob Berney (King has not confirmed Berney will be coming aboard or that he’s starting a distribution unit).
Depp is all over GK’s current important projects, either as an actor or producer. He just starred with Angelina Jolie in the Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck-directed drama The Tourist, as well as in GK’s adaptation of Hunter Thomnpson’s The Rum Diary. Depp’s Infinitum Nihil is teamed with GK Films to produce the Martin Scorsese-directed Hugo Cabret, the 3D film which begins production shortly. Infinitum Nihil and GK are also producing Dark Shadows for Warner Bros, with Depp starring for director Tim Burton. Depp even provided the voice for the title character in Rango, the Gore Verbinski-directed animated film that King is producing with Verbinski’s Blind Wink Productions and John B. Carls for release by Paramount Pictures next March.

Didn’y Johnny buy the rights to Nick Hornby’s Long Way Down? is that film not going ahead anymore with Johnny producing or something (doubt he’ll star)?
ABYTHING Depp does is $$ and worthy of my attention! But I’m especially interested in his Dark Shadows project. Was a huge fan of the original soap in the 60′s (LOVED BARNABAS!!!) and am even a BIGGER fan of Depp. Please stay on him re Dark Shadows Nikki—he’d be scoring big $$ if that flick was out now and put Twilight to shame by showing Pattinson how to do it right and how the vamp it up best.
The ‘Tourist’ photo of Johnny above is honestly the first time I’ve ever seen him photographed badly. I’m sure it’s just a trick of the light, but he looks old and bloated. Did he gain weight for the role?
You’re nuts right? I know this town is often accused of superficiality but you’re ridiculous. The photo is both tiny and lacking detail yet somehow you see ‘old and ‘bloated’. Some obvious projecting going on and I’m sorry you’re feeling such low self esteem.
Alex, relax. His face does look fuller than usual. It’s only makeup. He’s still the same Johnny from the 21 Jump Street poster above your bed.
The beard around his jaw line is making his face look fat. Also, it is obvious from other photos that he is wearing some kind of padding underneath the clothes. If you look at photos of him in Japan during a break in filming The Tourist, he looks the same as he has for years. Or look at the photos of him and his family where they are sightseeing around the area where filming is going on. I’m really tied of people saying he looks “beefy” or “boozy” or whatever. It’s called makeup and costuming.
He looks like Fisher Stevens in that photo. At least, Fisher Stevens won an Oscar.
Ditto. Thanks for what you said.
Warner Brothers loses another big talent.
It’s not them WB, it’s you.
Since riffing on Keith Richards for Cap’n Jack Sparrow worked wonders for Mr. Depp it seems this time around he chose to go with Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder.
I too was a fan of Dark Shadows. I am looking forward to Tim Burton and Johnny’s version!
You know how they want to start a stock pool to bet on the success/failure of film releases? Here’s another betting pool: I’ll give 100 to 1 there will never be a Johnny Depp-starring movie of “Dark Shadows.”
I will take those odds any day
I just want him to give me my guitar back — it’s a Martin DN3… Remember, Johnny?
Odd photo. Angelina certainly looks herself – but I would never have known that was Depp if I hadn’t been told (and even then I still couldn’t recognize him). Honestly, my first impression was that it was Keanu Reeves.
Ditto. I always did think they had similar facial features(read exotic) with Depp’s being the more naturally angular of the two.
I must agree. I can’t believe that’s Johnny Depp. He must have deliberately softened for the role. Here’s another photo from the set. Definitely heavier.

Please have a look at the script of The Tourist.
In the film, he’s supposed to look fat and ugly.
Bored, nitpicking cretins. If you consider the person in both photos to be “bloated” or even “fat,” your perspective is severely screwed. The man is in his mid-40s and he looks great even IF he gained a few pounds for the role. I hate to think what you say about the average Joe walking the streets with 26% body fat. You know, the people you see in the mirror every day.
As said before, finding the right writer in Seth Grahame-Smith has given Dark Shadows the momentum in the direction of one of the greatest films in a long time. In horror/gothic style, who is better than Tim Burton? And Johnny Depp to play an iconic Vampire, it’s been a dream for him as well. It would be nice to audition for a part in this film, especially Willie Loomis. Hollywood needs some new blood anyways. What do you think?
