Showtime just made the official announcement of Julia Stiles’ casting on Dexter following days of speculation. Here is a portion of the release, which includes details about the length of her stint and her character.
LOS ANGELES, CA June 7, 2010 – Julia Stiles has joined the cast of SHOWTIME’s Emmy-nominated drama series DEXTER. Stiles, who will appear in ten episodes in the upcoming fifth season, will play a mysterious young woman who forms a unique relationship with Dexter (Michael C. Hall) in the wake of the death of his wife. Production on season five begins this month and will premiere in the fall on SHOWTIME.

Yeah, but Stiles is among the worst actors in recent memory. She is consistently flat in 10 Things, and though she is a bright woman with a good head on her shoulders, she is so incredibly untalented.

Agreed. I’m not particularly thrilled by the casting choice. I wonder if anyone else was considered.
I like how original and witty the Dexter series is. However, I dont know how much more they can do with the series. Yet julia is not bad and bringing in a new character might help keep this show alive. We will see.

I ve watched ALL the Dexter shows as they ve come out every Sunday night on Showtime and even some over again!
I loved watching it all the way up to this 5th season and was on the edge of my seat all the time waiting for the next show!
I ve given the last 5 episodes a chance to “get going” since it is now the 5th season of this show.
I am totally bored to death with where this show is going.
Deb acting goofy & unpredictable like she s PMSin as usual AND WITH QUINN?..AND on another sadistic “somebody got their head chopped off” case used for for filler which I could care less about!
If it doesn t really include Dexter, where s the exicitement?

Oh, and Angel married to his boss and getting into all kinds of stupid trouble…thats boring too!
I have to say at times that I was irritated with Rita bossing Dexter around…but now it seems like somethings missing now that she is gone.
I m sorry, I just don t think they really thought it through well enough to open up a GREAT 5th Season and really run with it like they did with the last 4 seasons.
I am sure its was possible to go somewhere entirely different.
Perhaps with alot of pressure being put on Dexter right away and the link with him and the Trinity Killer.
It seemed like at the end you were always wondering about how the hell was Dexter going to get out of THIS MESS ..kinda like the old TV show “Cliff Hangers” that were written so that you were sure not to miss the next week s episode.
It s really not so much the acting…it s just not the best writing anymore.
It s as if they are just playing it all by ear and seeing where it goes… more or less throwing it against the wall to see if it sticks.
I ll just end by saying I am rather disappointed and not as anxious to see the next episode like I was the last 4 years…
and thats kinda a bummer.

i like the character of julia stiles because for the first time dexter is actually sharing his feelings with someone else and the audience will be able to get closer to the star. it is exciting because she is the only one who knows his secret for now.
