While Justin Theroux is writing and preparing to direct Zoolander 2 for Paramount Pictures, he has found time to squeeze in a lead role in Wanderlust, joining Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston in the David Wain-directed Universal comedy about a couple’s attempt to escape the trappings of the city for a counterculture life.
While he started out in front of the camera, Theroux is taking acting and writing jobs in equal measure. He just wrapped the villain role in the Universal comedy Your Highness opposite Danny McBride, James Franco and Natalie Portman. He was the sole credited writer on Iron Man 2, a job he got after co-writing Tropic Thunder with Ben Stiller, which led to Zoolander 2. UTA and 3 Arts rep him.

The real writer on that project was Etan Cohen who took Stiller’s raw idea and turned it into a great screenplay.
Theroux showed his true talent on Iron Man 2, which is to say, kind of disappointing.

Liked a fair amount of IRON MAN 2, but it seemed like Theroux, Favreau, Downey, et al were riffing on SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT 2–the trials of the Suddenly Successful Egotist–at the expense of a solid storyline.
Justin didn’t co-doctor the script. The pre-Ben Stiller draft was Etan and Justin’s, not Etan’s solely.

it won’t be his directorial debut. he had a film at sundance a few years ago called dedication (mandy moore was in it). it was not particularly good.

talented actor, can do both comedy and drama very well. should stick to it though, his writing has been disappointing to say the least

Can someone please explain to me why Jennifer Aniston is still being hired for romcoms? I know Paul Rudd wrote Wanderlust and he’s Aniston’s friend. And I know that Universal is run by one of her BFF’s daddy. But, dear Lord, how much money has to be wasted on Aniston movies before someone in Hollywood get’s a clue that the woman is simply NOT ever going to be a movie star – no matter how much they force her down our throats – and her movies are always going to tank, be critically lambasted and are NOT going to make any money? How many more Management, Love Happens, Rumor Has It, Derailed and The Bounty Hunter flicks does this woman get to make before someone has enough guts to pull the plug and send her back to tv where she belongs? I feel like I need to start a campaign to get her voted out of movies – right along with Jennifer Lopez and Katherine Heigl.
I think her movies are handy for tax purposes. LOL!
She’s also cheap (and you can interpret that in many ways) and still have some semblance of name recognition.
P.S. Add also the CAA connection. With her entourage and cost she runs up for the peeps she surrounds with to keep her relevant, someone better work hard to have her cast in something – crappy those rom-coms maybe.

Really? Single-handedly? I don’t know what Hollywood you’re thinking about, but in the one located in Los Angeles, there are very few writers with the clout to ruin a movie. There are plenty of other people giving their two cents a lot higher on the totem pole giving their input.
