Recent CSI: Miami addition Eddie Cibrian will leave the CBS crime drama after one season after the actor’s option was not picked up. Cibrian’s fate was sealed in February when original cast member Adam Rodriguez announced he will return to the show full-time in the upcoming 9th season. Rodriguez dropped his regular status on the show after Season 7 when he and CBS couldn’t come to an agreement on a new contract. He stayed on as a recurring while appearing on other shows, including Ugly Betty, until he inked a deal to return to CSI: Miami full-time. Cibrian was brought in to fill the void left by Rodriguez’s departure and now, with Rodriguez back, he was the odd man out.
There are a lot of intriguing parallels between CBS’ decision not to pick up the options of Cibrian and that of A.J. Cook, co-star on another CBS procedural, Criminal Minds. With CSI: Miami, CBS sources say the show wanted to focus on the core group of characters, which led to the decision to let Cibrian go. Meanwhile, at the other veteran crime procedural, Criminal Minds, the network is letting an original cast member who has been part of the core group go to bring in a new character. Also, Rodriguez’s return was helped by a strong fan support, including online petitions. Now Criminal Fans are staging similar campaign for Cook as well as Criminal Minds co-star Paget Brewster who is being offered reduced number of episodes.

I may find myself responsible for a shooting rampage at CBS’ offices if they don’t smarten up.
Dude, uncool.

Frankly Eddie Cibrian was the only reason I watched the show this season. I have liked him since he was on Third Watch years ago. The story and plotlines are the problem with this show and certainly not Eddie Cibrian. Frankly I have found Alex Rodriguez to be rather a poor actor and it seems he is a little too caught up in his looks to be a quality actor. Too one dimensional an actor. Keep Eddie, get rid of Alex!
totally agree, I was so excited to see where Cibrian’s character would and Delko is only so so in my book! Too bad they can’t bring back a dead character…
Well I don’t know about anyone else. But I had lost interest in CSI Miami until Eddie Cibrian came on. It brought me back for sure . Greast character and good on the eyes as well. This show needed a new character in the worst way. What a stupid move CBS,,really stupid. Bye bye CSI Maimi from my TV AGAIN!!
Amazing how so many tv shows have been dictated by contracts. This past season was weak. Eddie added nothing and random episodes with Rodriguez were totally arbitrary. Come up with a credible story arc and integrate the ensemble and viewers will follow.
This show has been extremely weak since season 2 or 3 really. Ever since they made Horatio’s character a caricature of his earlier self, and started doing all these stupid post-production effects to the film to get those weird un-natural shading and lighting during scenes I sort of gave up.
No great loss… Eddie has no talent and even less charm.
HA! CBS sucks.
YEAHHHH!!!! My prayers where heard…..thank you Jesus!!
While I’m incensed that CSI: Miami ditched Eddie Cibrian and brought Adam Rodriguez back — IMO, Rodriguez would have to add one dimension to his performances to make ‘em one-dimensional performances and I’ve liked Cibrian since he was on Third Watch — I find it amusing that CBS’s attempts to penny-pinch are backfiring.
With this pattern of behavior on CBS’s part, one could go back to the inexplicable cancellation of Without A Trace, which needed one more year to tie its characters’ storylines up, at the end of the 2008-2009 season. And they cancelled it in inexplicable favor of WaT’s inferior sibling show at Warner, Cold Case, which has absolutely no future on DVD due to music rights (whereas WaT’s real DVD future has been blocked for years by Warner’s failure to release anything past season 2.)
You’d think that CBS would be smarter than its audience, given all of that testing and surveying and whatnot. You’d think that they’d have figured out awhile ago that the audiences consider the cast members of crime procedurals as irreplaceable as the cast members of other types of shows, period.
But noooooOOOOOOOOOooooooo, they not only penny-pinch on a number of different shows — to those shows detriments — and then compound that moronic pattern of behavior with a far more pernicious one: namely, penny-pinching on the backs of the women of several shows.
Skinflintery magnified to the nth power by reflexive, lazy, casual sexism.
Way. To. Go, CBS!
Dig yourselves deeper with Criminal Minds, CBS — c’mon! Bring an “Edwina Cibrian”[1] onto Criminal Minds like you’ve been sheepishly threatening to for the past couple of days since we caught you on your sexism. Let’s see how that goes over.

[1] Sorry, Mr. Cibrian. It’s not an attempt to mock you. ABC shouldn’t have cancelled Invasion and they more or less admitted it later that summer.
“You’d think that they’d have figured out awhile ago that the audiences consider the cast members of crime procedurals as irreplaceable as the cast members of other types of shows, period.”
Of course, they did replace Mandy Patinkin with Joe Mantegna rather successfully on Criminal Minds.
NBC did it several times over the multi year run of Law and Order.
The replacement of Mandy Patinkin with Joe Mantegna wasn’t done by CBS, much less by CBS interfering in the creative direction of the show for financial reasons — Patinkin quit without any real notice because he decided that he couldn’t handle the show’s subject matter anymore.
That viewers consider cast members to be irreplaceable doesn’t mean that they won’t adjust to or even attach to a well-written new character — as was done on Criminal Minds with not just the Patinkin/Mantegna transition, but also with the Glaudini/Brewster transition. If the changeover is a purely creative decision on the part of either the showrunner or the actor (Patinkin couldn’t take the subject matter anymore, Glaudini got homesick for New York City), then the viewer will accept the change.

At first I was upset at Mandy Patinkin for wanting to leave the show, but have grown quite fond of Mantegna as he has meshed well with the original characters. I actually like Paget Brewster’s Character better than Glaudini’s Character. As far as A.J. Cook, that was one of the stupidest moves CBS made. J.J. is and should remain part of the BAU family. I was very upset when they took her off the show. I am very glad Adam Rodriguiz is back on CSI MIAMI. I like Eddie Cibrian and wish they could have found a way to keep his Character on the show. I am still pissed at Rory Cochrane for wanting off the show, I liked his Speedle character. While I have always liked Kim Delaney, I never felt her Character meshed with the show and didn’t miss her when she was gone.
Easy fella. You are yelling at a name. CBS is made up a people. Each has their own interest.
Thank you.
And my comment is an open note toward anyone and everyone who agreed with, supported and/or caused the firings of Cook and Vassey (and even Rodriguez) and the demotion of Brewster and the cancelleations of Old Christine and Ghost Whisperer on the basis of nickel-and-diming the shows. The ridiculous nickel-and-diming (which included Rodriguez) was compounded with an overall pattern of sexist behavior in their brainless targeting of almost entirely women.
So I am, in fact, addressing the many people at CBS who are responsible for this idiotic behavior and collectively identifying them as CBS. Bringing up that there are people at CBS who don’t agree with CBS’s decision is, at best, a weak diversionary tactic.

Rob, calm down. This “anhonestanswer” tool is an idiot. You might as well be debating with my left nut. “Anhonestanswer” has proven time and time again that he has less taste than a grown man’s testicle.
Correct me if i am wrong, but in the cliffhanger season finale, eddie’s character was the only one standing in the lab. Everyone else was passed out. So, I guess he has to be back for at least the season opener.
Eddie was not the last standing but he obviously does need to come back since they need to eliminate his character some how. Rodriguez, was the only one standing in the lab.
Nope, I think it was Delko.
Since they’ve done this in the past with a central character (Rory Cochrane’s Speedle character), it is an opportunity to have another “surprise moment” that kills off Cardoza (even though we now know he is contractual toast). His character’s “character” had been in question this past season, so let’s wrap it up and whack him!
Adam’s probably asking for a lot of money, I mean hes even directing and writing some show, and since the show isnt doing to good maybe that cant afford both of them lol.
Fans of show were upset because of Eddie’s cheating ways, which I personally think has nothing to do with his acting.
Either way Im just glad that Adam is back
Awesome…well, not awesome as it related to Cibrian who I’ve liked since Third Watch, but the return of Rodriguez is welcome. I can’t wait.
And they cancelled it in inexplicable favor of WaT’s inferior sibling show at Warner, Cold Case…”
Because COLD CASE was (and is) the better, more resonant show–and the music was vital to the storytelling. Given how much TNT reruns will make up at least some of the money they can’t get back from DVD.
In what universe was Cold Case a better show than Without A Trace? ‘Cause it certainly wasn’t this one. Cold Case, however, cheaper (and looked it.), but frankly, CBS choosing to renew it over WaT was an early indicator of the lack of taste and the penny-wise/pound-foolish economic nonsensibilities of the current regime at CBS.

Eddie is amazing, Adam is a douche bag….
Adam is the one who is amazing while Eddie is whatever you said to Adam before.
good thing eddie has a rich girlfriend to support him. So happy Adam’s back!
Well if fans really like Eddie they can go on his facebook
and vote for him to stay on the petition that’s provided.
But he needs a lot of votes and it’s not doing as good as
we should see it. Even if he leaves, the show won’t last.
CBS made too many mistakes and I don’t feel like watching
the show anymore.

just in case you want to vote and you can’t find it on Eddie’s
facebook.
I am glad Adam is back on Miami as he’s a part of the CSI family. Got to have him along w/Haratio! Eddie will just have to move along-his girlfriend can get him something else. As for Cold Case,
it was good. I always watched and enjoyed it and all of the characters. Criminal Minds or Intend or whatever was also gr8.
A.J.Cook was superb in her role so why screw with a good thing?
Never figured out why they cancelled “Trace” but they needed to step up the personal story line of that show. It sucked but story
could have worked. TNT and USA new shows coming on are kicking
some serious butt with their new shows they’ve added. I would rather watch those so folks, turn over and tune in. Be glad you did! They keep it up and they will be the channels you turn to first.
I love CSI Miami, but come on. They solve a crime in one day and don’t even get their clothes dirty. Have them have a few wardrobe changes, so it looks like it took longer to solve the case.
Eddie was a refreshing addition to this faux CSI show. Has anyone every seen a CSI out in the field investigation a crime scene in high heels, skin tight pants with boobs hanging out? Don’t think so. Talk about being focused on their looks. The ladies wardrobe is not appropriate. But of course the guys get a charge, but it’s offensive to women.
All I know is this: Adam Rodriguiz is integral to Caine’s character and I will not watch the show without Adam. One dimensional? No way.. this man added many different facets and character notes to his role. Cibrian was a robot and added NOTHING to his character and the main characters.
I am sorry that they let Eddie go. I hate to be rude, but anyone can out act the red headed David guy. I have never figured out how he got parts to start with. At least leading parts. I hope Eddie finds something later that he can lend his talent and good looks to.

I am so disappointed that Eddie Cibrian was let go from CSI Miami. He is the best looking one on that series. He is the reason I watched CSI Miami. There are other boring actors on that series that you could have let go. Now I don’t even want to watch that series, it is very disappointing.
Let no good deed go unpunished
