UTA has signed away more of ICM’s talent roster today: Diane Kruger, January Jones, Maggie Grace, Eddie Izzard, Amber Valletta, Adam Goldberg, Jack Huston, Bonnie Sommerville, Jake Abel, and Ashton Holmes met with various UTA agent teams this week, and I’m told all of the actors made their moves over the past 48 hours. All had been represented by ICM talent agent Chris Hart who last Friday made the move to UTA, where he’s part of the teams. Last week, UTA signed actors Paul Giamatti and Alex O’Loughlin away from ICM.

ICM had a talent department? Since when?
Another example of how ICM thought they could lowball one of their agents doubting that they had the ability to move their list. Just add Chris’s name to list along with Dan Rabinow, Robert Newman,Troy Zein, Chris Andrews, etc. I can’t even list five “name” actresses left over there under the age of 50…
Does this mark the official coronation of UTA as #3?
I work in the business and have never heard of most of this client list. january jones is the most successful, but uta will only benefit from signing her if they can get her a film role.
If you work in this business, but haven’t heard of Eddie Izzard – or think that January Jones is more “successful” than he is – you should get out of this business.
erm….Working the popcorn stand don’t make an expert Sarah.
She just did a movie. She will do more. Good signing by UTA.
Youve never heard of Diane Kruger? …ummmm…Troy? (she was Helen)…Inglorious Bastards? If you are really in the entertainment business you’re obviously not very good at your job.
Not exactly a gaggle of A-listers.
because ICM has a gaggle of A-listers?
What do you say about this? On the one hand, it’s not unusual to follow their former agent to a new company if he leaves his old agency. On the other hand, it sure looks bad when an agency loses 12 clients (albeit not the biggest names in the world, but not the smallest either) in a 48 hour period.
But that’s Jeff Berg for you, isn’t it? I mean, if we were in England right now, it would be time for a vote of no-confidence in his leadership.
Wake up. Jeff Berg has not been the leader there since the merger. That putz Chris Silbermann bought that role 3 years ago, and the results speak for themselves. All the great mopic agents who were there when he arrived are now gone. He is a lost leader, in way over his head.
let’s go ahead and change the name of the company to BRODER, shall we? good on chris.
Sounds more like UTA took out ICM’s trash.
Every time UTA signs a client, I ask, “Who?”
I used to work at ICM and I can tell you they do have a talent department. A TV talent department. However their TV talent agents are among the best, hardest working, most dedicated and genuine of TV talent agents in the business. I know all TV actors have film aspirations but walking away from the likes of Jeline, Rollins, Mann and Grossman to follow Chris Hart is just a mistake made on the basis of arrogance and insecurity.
Hopefully they at least had the sense to stay with Karen Sellars in commercials. UTA has an interesting branding group, but it’s more brand-focused, not talent-focused. Karen’s where to be if you want top commercial campaigns.
Wow…all of these clients went. When you break it down its a nominated actor and two nominated actresses, big television business plus from what it looks like hot up and comers. This is a win for UTA for sure and apparently the majority of good talent with upside in a crazy market place just walked out the door of ICM. Sounds like UTA has really won this round!
My wife’s an ICM client (as a writer). Quick question for those in the know: Is this agency on life support?
Yes. ICM is on life support. They have four-five bankable stars and then a sharp drop off between bankable and their “b-list” (which at any other agency would be c or d list.)
ICM has quietly become the CAA/UTA/WME farm team. The big three let ICM develop. It works for all parties. Hwood always needs talent developed. I think ICM has come to peace with their position as a cactus league and pay their agents accordingly.
Everyone repped there is hoping and waiting to be called up to the majors. And just like in baseball, it is no offense to the minors when you leave to the big league team.
haha OUCH
But ICM still has packaging fees on things like Friends, The Simpsons, Scrubs etc. They spearheaded Breaking Bad and until very recently 90% of the Mad Men cast was repped there – so they are capable of bringing cutting edge talent into the game.
I think in its present form this is a pretty profitable company.
The book department has some excellent clients.
But Silberman and Chervin don’t really get or care about the movie business. As a TV lit shop, it’s incredibly prestigious but they need to poach a top actors’ rep (or several of them) if they want to get back to making money off of people in front of the camera.
Total commissions for this group: less than CAA makes on actress #17 on their list.
I’ve never even heard of 9 of these 12 actors. Is this supposed to be big news in hollywood? Seems like a big whatever.
Would normally agree, but considering these are their biggest female stars it is pretty significant. Maybe Megan Fox can save their sinking ship….
Attention UTA agents: beware of Chris Hart. He will elbow you out when the clients have a whif of becoming hot…he will kiss ass like you can’t believe, he loves to “divide and conqure” he will act like your best friend but talk shit behind your back. No one trusted him at ICM, NO ONE.
CAA and WME were smart to dismiss him as a lightweight. After 10 years at ICM he never broke a star…bad taste in actors (see above client list) and scripts. Anyone in the biz even know who he is?
Sounds like from the previous posts Chris Hart is a great agent and guy but this “attention” is another lazy ICM agent bitter that they don’t have a life boat to jump off the ICM Titanic. UTA has taken the clients fair and square and Chris who is young will do nothing but grow. Funny that the previous posts said nothing but good things BEFORE the clients decided to jump to UTA. Funny how that works
WHO CARES? Why’s no one commenting on how ICM basically has NO talent clients anymore…. the bloodletting continues. Remember the days when they had Julia, Cameron, etc etc etc??? What’s left is a TV literary agency using the ICM name
I am an assistant at UTA and I have to tell you the building is buzzing because of Chris Hart’s hire. He walked by me on day two and took the time to talk to me and say hi and actually be a human being in this scum bag business. I can not talk to ICM, but I know the agents are excited to have a winner in the talent department and it feels good to have a nice guy for once at UTA besides Billy Lazarus.
do Anna Friel, Rachel McAdams, Kirsten Dunst, Greta, Alice Eve and on and on
mind or care that the entire agency including Tracey Jacobs, Theresa Peters, Jim Berkus, Blair, Jeremy, Ashley, etc…have put a full court press together to sign Diane Kruger, Maggie Grace and January Jones?
to Mike Morrs:
Chris is 35 years old. In our businees that is OLD.
to call him a “young agent” is totally condesending to him but also points how little he has accomplished.
At that age I think Mike Ovitz was king of the world, as was Bryan, Kevin, Doc, Richard, Ari, Patrick, Tracey (Jacobs). Others that had amazing clients were: Steve Dontanville, Gavin Polone, David Lonner, Rick Kurtzman, Hilda Q, Nick Styne, Carol Bodie, Chris Andrews, George Friedman and all the oldies like: Paula, Rick, Ed, Tony, Elaine, Sue, Ron, etc., etc….let’s not forget Jay…who had genuine movie stars in their 20′s and 30′s
this guy, Chris Hart, is a servicing agent at best.
Considering you spelled George Freeman’s name wrong, it’s probably fair to say nothing else you said should be taken with more than a grain of salt, either. These people aren’t actors. Trust me, being a young agent isn’t something to sell yourself on. Age equals experience.
SOMEONE’S been around! And to bring “Jay” up! Didn’t know him personally, but was pretty (kinda) shocked when he died. Kinda sick that 35 is considered “old” in our side of the biz, but it doesn’t make it any less true. SIGH….
Diane Kruger is a name you should know or you need a new business to be ‘in’.
Silbermann has jumped the shark… Wanted the glitz and glam of the film industry, but is a nerd in denial. Maybe if he spent less time at Mood with guido giordiano trying to be the cool kid he could have avoided becoming a complete mockery.
What about Jeremy Zimmer? Mr UTA Assistant. Isn’t he a “nice” guy? hahaha
It’s not about Chris Hart, it’s not about these actresses, its about ICM under Silberman’s leadership (or lack of) not only has he not improved the agency, he’s made it worse. Why? because of his lack of knowledge of movies, of talent, of music and marketing. he’s a tv lit guy (and not that good of one at that). To park a young guy, with literally no knowledge of the majority of the agency was a bonehead move of the investors, who believed his bullshit. Berg has more class in his left shoelace than silberman ever will…and we are all witnessing the results.
Um….get your facts straight, Chris is barely 30 years old and got 35 Under 35 in his 20′s, he’s a star!
