Paradigm is losing 15-year veteran talent agent Michael Lazo because he’s becoming a manager at Untitled. I’m already hearing about nervousness among his clients’ managers now that Lazo will be competition.
Editor-in-Chief Nikki Finke - tip her here.

This is a loss? Really? More like fat being trimmed that should’ve been trimmed about five years ago. He was one of THREE Talent Department Heads until Andrew Rogers left, and who does he represent besides Chris Cooper? And he’s so foolishly “high-brow” that he even convinced Philip Seymour Hoffman to pass on an offer for the role of Doctor Octopus in Spider-Man 2 AND then to pass on a $1M offer for the general role that William Hurt ended up taking in THE HULK. Smart, Lazo, reaaaaal smart.
As a fan of Philip Seymour Hoffman’s, I’d applaud him in those decisions. Hoffman’s strength is his lived-in and quiet performances, not over-the-top heavies in comic book movies. The Spider-Man franchise is dead in the water and, what? What did you say? They’re doing a much more realistic styled comic franchise at Warners called Bat-what? Batman? And there’s an opening for somebody called Penguin? Glad to see in a business where so many actors come and go (cough-Edward Norton-cough) that Lazo was able to steer his equally talented ACTOR away from the garbage.
YEAH HE MUST’VE REALLY MESSED UP?!!!
CHRIS COOPER AND PHILIP SEYMOUR HOFFMAN ARE STILL CLIENTS TO THIS VERY DAY!!!!!!
ON YOUR BEST DAY WITH THE SUN SHINING AND THE STREETS DEVOID OF TRASH YOU WILL STILL NEVER REPRESENT THE CALIBER OF TALENT THIS MAN DOES.
They should be scared, he is the best in the business? He brings silence to the night. A true guardian of talent. A jack of two trades. He inspires faith and perspires sweat.
who knew he was still in the business. any client that goes with him would be losing it.
Lazo won’t be able to make it on his own any longer and will end up a the Gage Group or something like that
one of the classiest and best agents in the business – truly! wish him all the best
Sweet guy who has his demons but who is much better off in a protected agency environment on a team than in that hellhole Untitled. They will eat him for lunch, especially when they see the list he (doesn’t) bring(s) with him.
he is smart, classy and a gentleman. sad for paradigm. great for untitled.
he is too classy for agency life. he will shine through all these negative comments, because if you know anything about him he operates above the bullshit and thats what sustains and defines him. seriously, one of the classiest guys in the biz and if his clients know the difference between having a career versus being a flash in the pan they will all go with him.
Go Lazo! I love ya, buddy!
What all you clowns don’t know about this buisness Michael Lazo could write a book with. He’s a gentleman agent who has the ear of real actors.
The GREEN monster has gotten ahold of all of you.
And FYI PSH makes his own decisions.
If the first Anonymous is right – those decisions would be bad management for a client. The $ was indeed be sweet and Doc Oc turned out to be a sweet role.
The jerk signed “lazy lazo” is a coward for not leaving his real name. I worked with Michael Lazo for three years when he was head of talent at Writers and Artists and he is not only one of the most ethical, honest and hard-working agents in the business, he is loyal, wise, and exceedingly kind. Sam Gores does not suffer fools gladly and its telling that Lazo is not leaving to be an agent elsewhere. Whichever clients sign him as their manager will be managed brilliantly. Congratulations, Michael! P.S. Every casting director who has worked with him closely considers him a close friend.
Smart, intuitive, hard working, and lovely to spend time with.
One of the gems in the business.
Good luck Lazo!!
Michael always does what he says and that is far too rare a commodity in Hollywood. A great man and a great friend to independent film.
Now we have to make sure he doesn’t take the rest of the agency with him.
So who actually leaves their current managers to go with him? chris cooper? Allison Janney…respected but far from a star list. Does Phil go with him too? Will the two faced Sarah Fargo actually let that happen? This feels very much like Sam Gores pushing out the old “nice” agents. None of this surprises me. Considering many describe Michael as “nice” it should come as no surprise then that he is getting out of agenting. The last word I would want to describe my agent is “nice.” And when is it Chris Schmidt’s turn to be let go and pushed out as well? And someone please tell the dinosaur Clifford Stevens to finally retire!
One of the best agents I worked with. I wish him the best
Paradigm is still in business?
Who knew?
