In the land of the blind the one-eyed man is king. After a slew of new dramas opening in the 1.3-1.5 rating range among adults 18-49 this summer, ABC’s Canadian import Rookie Blue last night emerged as the most promising new off-season scripted prospect with a 2.0 rating/6 share in 18-49 and a solid 7.3 million viewers overall for its premiere. Described as Grey’s Anatomy in the world of rookie cops and airing in Grey’s Thursday 9PM slot, the E1-produced Rookie Blue held onto 78% of its lead-in Wipeout (2.6/10), which was down 16% from its Tuesday telecast but still ranked as the highest-rated program on Thursday. (In total viewers, Rookie Blue held onto an impressive 93% of Wipeout‘s audience.) Rookie Blue marks the top-rated scripted series debut in over a year and ABC’s highest in almost 6 years. ABC’s other premiere last night, ABC News’ docu series Boston Med (1.3/4) did a so-so business at 10PM, finishing second in the hour hour behind CBS’ Mentalist repeat. Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance (2.3/7) was even with last Thursday’s episode. CBS and NBC aired all-repeats with the exception of NBC’s 100 Questions (0.6/2), which was flat with last week and once again the lowest-rated telecast on the Big 4 networks for the night (and probably for the week since its main competition for the title, ABC’s Happy Town, has been pulled) ABC won the night in adults 18-49 with a 1.9/6 average, while CBS prevailed in total viewers with 7.4 million.

New ‘Man Of Steel’ Television Spot #6

this show is not good
I loved this show. When it was called Southland and it was on NBC, until they canceled it before it had time to gain an audience.
Do we really need more cop and medical shows on major networks? More reason why the so-called ‘majors’ are taking a beating at the hands of the cable nets, both pay and basic.
Invest in creatives the way cable does, majors, and keep your hands off the product and you’ll reap some nice bennies.
southland sucked but i like rookie blue
adam – southland sucked and rookie blue is good?
what exactly do you do on the show? It’s the worst cop show since cop rocks
I thought this show was very difficult to watch. But good for them getting ratings
The show is ok but not even close to the quality of Southland. It needs time to grow and then it may become better or worse. I see to many love stories showing up in this show to take it to serious.
The promo for it looked amateurish. “Please don’t make me shoot you.” Painful.
the music was excellent. Respect!
I lasted 15 minutes before I flipped to another programming alternative. Can’t remember what, exactly, but this was just too painful. And I was looking forward to seeing something new over the summer. Props to ABC for putting a new show out there, though.
This was without a doubt one of the worst premieres I’ve ever seen. Poorly written and laughable acting, with the possible exception of Missy P.
Shame this isn’t season 3 of Reaper instead! x
I thought it was excellent.
I kinda liked it. And no, we don’t need anymore cop shows, but I liked the diversity of the cast. I’d prefer that it be filmed in the US but we send enough shows overseas so why not watch some from Canada?
Yo that a lot of TV shows and movies are filmed on Canada but take place in the US. So what is wrong with watching some filmed in outside of the US? If you have a problem with that you are really limiting the number shows or movies that you can watch.
Some of the worst writing I’ve ever seen on television.
The numbers will dry up next week.
Hope the same thing happens to your next show
DanC above is correct. Do we REALLY need more police procedurals on television? (same goes for medical.) How about some creativity from those so-called creative directors?
It’s a point by point, character by character clone of Grey’s Anatomy. Down to the editing and the score. I guarantee you that was the pitch: It’s Grey’s Anatomy only with cops!
Terrible writing, cheap and offensive jokes about who should do the body search of a transgendered person, terrible casting. The actors cast as rookie cops looked like a bunch of pretty college kids. There is nothing here. Move along, viewers.
i loved it!
This show lacks realism and it is amateurish.
The editing is horrible, First she arrests the undercover cop and puts the cuffs on him then next she is walking him without the cuffs.
She arrests the kid and leaves the gun on the floor then has the gun.
Come on people this stuff is basic editing/directing.
This week she takes the car from other rookie and leaves it after saving the informant. Ya she does gas it up before giving the keys back.
Worst cop show since Flashpoint. Obviously neither show has any technical advisors with any police experience. Far fetched and ridiculous writing, with a cast of young male and female models. Hard to believe this is the same network that produced NYPD Blue.
For some reason, cop shows filmed in Canada bear no resemblance to the real thing.
is the worst show i ever seen in my life…boring and stupid…..if that cops says to me: “let me go or shoot me, this is not my first day” i certainly will shoot her twice to be sure that she is really dead.
