EXCLUSIVE: I hear Sarah Chalke is in talks to co-star in the CBS comedy Mad Love, which is close to a 13-episode midseason order at the network. She would replace Minka Kelly who was originally cast in the role. The project would reunite the Scrubs alumna with former Scrubs writer-producer Matt Tarses who created Mad Love and is executive producing it with Jamie Tarses.
Mad Love is an ensemble comedy about four friends in New York – Henry (Jason Biggs), Kate (Chalke), Larry (Tyler Labine) and Connie – who are looking for love. Connie was played in the pilot by Lizzy Caplan as a guest star and that role is now being recast as Caplan couldn’t commit to the series.
This is the second round of recastings on Mad Love, which replaced Dan Fogler with Labine and Ashley Austin Morris with Caplan just before the pilot was shot. Chalke’s character Kate is described as a pretty, clean-scrubbed Midwestern who is a sweet but strong-willed romantic. She falls in love with Henry at the top of the Empire State Building and often tackles her cousin and best friend, Connie, to the ground in order to get her way.
Mad Love, produced by Sony TV and CBS Studios, is expected to be joined by the 20th TV-produced midseason drama Chaos, whose pickup deal at CBS is said to be nearing completion. Shalke was in demand and did two pilots this year, ABC’s Freshmen and CBS’ Team Spitz, which also was produced by Sony.

Chalke really brings this one up a notch. a great script, and now even better cast (yes minka kelly is hot, but the girl can’t act worth a lick). REALLY looking forward to this one now. And Tyler Labine and Judy Greer could be a lot of fun together….
Loved her before she had all that work done. Almost unrecognizable these days.
making the same old junk…
zzzzzzzzz…
agreed, minka’s chest & buns are fantastic, but the one to watch for is the other blonde from 7th Heaven.
They should have gone hotter and gotten someone like Katie Cassidy.
Also Minka’s best acting was her 25 second appearance in “500 Days of Summer”.
And man, who can even replace Lizzy Caplan?
She had work done? Link, please. I met her in 2007 and she was very sweet, beautiful and all natural, baby.
I wish her luck with the series, but young single friends in New York? I don’t know if that concept will fly on television.
WHY???????????
I wanted to watch this show(because of Minka Kelly) & now i wont!!!!
Why the even want to replace her???
she cant turn a joke. and comedies need funny people.
Sarah Chalke is fantastic. Lizzy Caplan is even better, but networks will always go with the blonde when given a choice…
not the same role. she replaced minka kelly. not caplan.
Oh, Sarah didn’t replace Lizzy. My bad.
consitering all the headaches with casting, CBS myst really think the concept is a good one…
…Who wants to bed this forsn’t last more than 13 weeks
headaches, or better people becoming available?
“SCRUBS” was great, I hope they do the same with “Mad Love”.
Oh no. Same old, same old. You know exactly what you are going to get with Sarah and it’s just not that exciting.
I’ve not even seen this show and I liked it better when it had Lizzy Caplan and Dan Fogler.
What happened with Minka? Did she stinka?
I love Lizzie Caplan, I’m glad she’s so in demand!
So let me get this right — they recast 3 out of the 4 leads, and KEEP Jason Biggs? He was the worst one!! He just comes off as a putz. American Pie was his only success, and that was 15 years ago. It’s been failure after failure since.
Abort this baby now, and save it from a cruel, short life.
It wasn’t even 15 years. You don’t even know that it will be a short life.
“an ensemble comedy about four friends in New York – who are looking for love.”
How boring and generic.
Casting Sarah Chalke is a great move, but they should set the show somewhere other than New York.
Be bold. Set it in the Buckhead neighborhood of Atlanta. Set it in Austin, Texas. Set it in Podunk, Idaho.
New York? Please. No one looks for love in New York. They look for parking and bargains and for their name on Gawker.
This show is funny! Best part – Tyler Labine and Lizzy Kaplan. Weak part, Jason Biggs and Minka Kelly. Minka gone = better. But Sarah Chalke falling for Jason Biggs? Who’s gonna buy that?
Well, Sarah Chalke fell for Zach Braff before, so it could happen. On the other hand, I loved Scrubs, but I’m really hoping that her character/this show is not too similar to Elliot/Scrubs.
Like how I liked Lauren Graham in Gilmore Girls, but couldn’t watch Parenthood–not only because of the overdramatic plots, but because I kept seeing Lorelai Gilmore.
I saw this pilot with my wife in Las Vegas in mid November at the CBS Studio in the MGM Grand. It really was not that good. It was a HIMYM ripoff.
Needs more Charlie Sheen
