The third season of HBO’s vampire drama True Blood is off to a very strong start. The season premiere at 9PM on Sunday averaged 5.1 million viewers, a 38% increase from the season 2 premiere (3.7 million) and matching the audience for the Season 2 finale in September. It was just a tad shy of the record for True Blood’s largest audience to date, which is held by last year’s August 23 episode, 5.3 million. Another 1.3 million watched the Season 3 premiere during the 11PM replay for a nightly total of 6.4 million viewers.

That is because a lot of the brain dead fans of Jersey Shore tuned in to see Snookie Stackhouse.
But for real, I’m glad to see the high ratings. It is a cheesy soap opera show, but it is also a great cheesy soap opera show.
One of the best shows on tv for what it is! It isn’t the Sopranos, but it is great trashy fun. I have the feeling Walking Dead will be the same way. Unlike Heroes, True Bloods writers seem to have purposely designed it to be a well written trashy show. In other words, Heroes showrunner Tim Kring didn’t know what the fuck he was doing but True Bloods Alan Ball knows what he’s doing. Balls show is purposely over the top!
Congrats to them! Hopefully those numbers just keep going up. TB is my favorite, wicked tv that revels in its own campiness.
Congratulations to HBO and the creative team of TRUE BLOOD. The show is terrific, the most wonderfully weird series on television since early episodes THE X-FILES.
I loved the season premier and didn’t find it one bit cheesy, rather thoroughly entertaining. At the end of the day I want to be entertained and eager to watch more and with True Blood I am most certainly entertained. Love the cast, the show, and the story lines.
