Why did they choose to make this a summer release given that there will now be such a huge gap between films instead of just making it a yearly november event?
I agree, making ‘Eclipse’ a summer release was a mistake. Not only does it look like a fall release, but now, as you said, there’s going to be close to a year and half between this film and the next…and then another gap between that Nov 2011 release and the final installment. I really don’t see the franchise holding on to it popularity that long. The source material isn’t strong, with the final book being the most divisive of the four books. I just don’t see how dragging it out this much will help more than hurt.
Well, i just find it odd that they would choose to open 6 months after the last one — there is no question this will make money — just look at it’s dominanace at the mtv awards again — but maybe they think they will make more money in the summer than in the fall.
Why did they choose to make this a summer release given that there will now be such a huge gap between films instead of just making it a yearly november event?
Two words: Harry Potter.
I suppose they’ll release Part 2 six months after Part 1, just like with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Or perhaps they’ll wait until November.
It’s like breaking an egg. It doesn’t matter if you crack it in half or not—it’s how it cooks in the pan and tastes afterwards that counts Bring it!
And the trio of Rpatz, KStew and Lautner will be swimming in so much money they will drown.
I figured this would happen; the voluminousness of the book (over 800 pages for the hardcover?) simply precluded everything being squished into one movie. Smart decision-making by Summit.
the foreign totals for Twilight 3 will not look anything like twilight 2. why is this film being released during the world cup? in the u.s. it doesn’t matter. but in the rest of the world it does.
seems like an obvious mistake and probably why warner opted not to open Harry Potter during the summer. i mean, it’s why disney shortened the theatrical window on Alice to get the dvd out before mid june.
Usually everybody on here (and Oprah;) claims that Twilight Fans are girls and their mothers. You’re now trying to tell me that that demographic will be glued to their TVs to watch soccer? Seriously?
I don’t want to sound sexist, but I wouln’t worry. In fact, I think the distributors *are smart* to release the movie during the soccer craze. I think it’s the smartest idea I’ve heard in a long time! Are you assuming that Twihards will have a problem to choose between soccer and Eclipse? Sorry, but that assumption seems completely and utterly out of touch, even if some of the Twihards are soccer-fans.
i’m actually a big soccer fan. and not male. i have been to europe and south america during the world cup. it is a family event. it’s nothing like the superbowl, which here seems to consume mostly men. mark my words. yes, the day-to-day soccer fans tend to be male. but for this event it hits all the demographics. seriously. mark my words.
you think any teenage girl fans care more about the world cup than their precious vampire/wolfboy lovers? i’m sure the twilight freaks will manage to squeeze it into their schedules.
yes, but. you can see a movie anytime. but most people prefer watching sporting events live. if the various international release dates are on days where there’s no game, maybe there’s a chance. but mark my words. the monday after this film comes out summit will spin the weak international numbers by saying the film got crushed by some lame-ass soccer tournament called the world cup.
November ’11? Wow, kind of a long wait for the first of 2 (two!) movies.
I still wanna see how they are going to turn Louisiana into the Pacific Northwest.
“Breaking Dawn” is the worst written book in the world, fit to be used only as a door stop or kindling. And they’re going to make two movies out of it?
Well, now, I would say this drives a stake through the heart of that silly rumor Hollywood doesn’t care about money.
LOL — whoever said that hollywood doesn’t care about money? it’s an industry just like anything else. God forbid a movie opens less than 15 million.
This is the book where Edward performs a C-section on Bella with his own teeth (how lovely!) and Jacob falls in love with a baby girl (someone call “To Catch a Predator”!), right?
Good times! Can’t wait to see *that* on the big screen.
It also plays a dangerous game of chicken with Stewart and Pattinson off-screen relationship, which is currently helping fuel the fan base.
It’s going to be mighty uncomfortable shoot and press junket if these two don’t survive off-screen yet have to play lovers on for the next two or more years.
I want to know if the rumors are true that the reason the let Stephanie Myer be Producer on this crap of a movie is that they plan on aging Nessie in part 2 so that Jacob looks less like a child molester. Even with an ace director these movies will be laughable.
I smell Oscar bait.
Two more opportunities for Melissa Rosenberg to show us that she can’t do a proper adaptation. Two more chances for her to focus the story on her beloved Jacob. Another one I will skip.
Money, money, money, more money! These people are smart, they know these teeny poppers and pathetic “I’m Hip” mothers will play anything to watch a gay vampire and a midget werewolf.
Kill me now.
I’m really curious about how they will go about filming the birth scene where Edward has to tear the baby out of her stomach with his vampire teeth. Not to mention that Taylor kid having to act as if he were in love with a toddler… literally, I wanna have your babies, in love.
Shoot me now. The book was bad enough.
Two more words concerning why “Breaking Dawn” will be split into two films:
Three-D.
Expect both of them to be in 3-D, with premium (even for 3-d) ticket prices for the first few weeks of release.
