I hear at least a half dozen actors have read or have been informally approached for the two detective roles, including Skeet Ulrich, James Van Der Beek, Michael Rapaport, Michael Ealy, Dylan Walsh and Dean Cain. Clearly, NBC and Dick Wolf are casting a wide net for the leads of the new Law & Order series, Law & Order: Los Angeles. The producers have been looking for a big-name actor to play the prosecutor, ADA Peter Morales. And I hear there may be interest in Lucy Liu for another role, possibly the captain. While casting on the project is still in preliminary stages, it is expected to kick into high gear soon as filming is slated to begin July 22.
According to a breakdown for the fall NBC series released 2 weeks ago, LOLA (as the series is known) follows closely the template of the other Law & Order series with two detectives, with fortysomething Rex Winters and thirtysomething TJ Jaruszalski at the center of the storyline, joined by a captain, a prosecutor, and his assistant.

I think Dean Cain will be great for this role… Will live – will see…
Skeet, Skeet, Skeet. YES, YES, YES. Please!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah let’s get some dean Cain!!!!!!!!
Dean Cain .. So hot !!!! The bev hls version of justice. Destroy those criminals with his good looks.
It’s sad to believe that a franchise that began with George Dzundza and Jerry Ohrbach has devolved into this.
Did you forget the phenomenal Chris Noth. The chemistry between him and Orhbach won’t be duplicated any time soon if ever.
Thank you. THe original cast of the 1st 3 seasons of Law and order were great. The worst cast was the 20th season and the 2nd worst was 5th and 6th season. writing also sucked. 12 13 14 15 16 seasons were OK but first 3 seasosn were great.
What about Teddy Sears? Just came off the TNT show Raising the Bar as a lawyer and did the pilot for the new CBS show Defenders, and played an ADA on SVU last year. Not a “known” actor but he’s solid. And hell yeah Ealy would be an awesome pick, and Tony Plana too.
I liked this idea the first time I saw it, when it was called “Dragnet”. Or maybe it was “CHiPS”. Or maybe “Adam-12″.
I thought they were right to cancel L&O it hasn’t been up to its prior high standards ever since Waterston became the d.a…L&O SVU is t-i-red & should be re-tired. (love Mariska but lets see her in something else!) mixed feelings–mostly negative- about yet another version, and that cast list is ok..I like Dylan Walsh. can’t wait to see if the rumor re Bob Greenblatt going there is true..that should be a good day for NBC..he did some amazing programming at Showtime..will he be able to translate his winning formula(s) to broadcast.. he was at Fox but that was yrs ago when it was a newbie-ish net. if the FCC lets the merger happen, hope he goes there & NBC can be reinvented, esp on the drama side. I don’t watch any NBC dramas except for Parenthood..
I disagree about the quality in recent years. I think the chemistry between the cops is excellent and the prosecutors almost rivals the days when it was Waterston and Hennessey. I was actually making it a point to catch it again, if I could find it. They kept moving it around the schedule. I agree with an earlier post that it may be more about lowering salaries.
If they get some interesting actors in the parts, I may watch. But if they are only about “stunt” casting i.e. Lucy Liu – forget it.
Skeet would be great and I would watch anything with him in it. Anyone saying he is not a good actor is crazy. I have never seen anyone with such facial expressions. He tells all with his face. He was absolutely awesome in Jericho. He would be a great asset to NBC.
James Van Der Beek. Hands down. He aced the ‘know it all ICU Chief’ in Mercy. Was fun to watch.
James and Skeet together would be like the McDreamy and McSteamy of cop dramas- but hotter.
As for the prosecutor, I’d say someone like a Samuel Jackson. Not sure who that would be these days.
Michael Ealy & John Goodman.
They canceled L&O. SVU is pervert of the week and CI is just plain weird. Haven’t liked any of the spinoffs except for Trial by Jury and UK (which is basically L&O with different accents). Looking at the cast list, this is another “why bother?” show. These days, NBC specializes in those.
Michael Rapaport is the WORST!!!! He is bad in everything, he is unwatchable!!!!! How does he continue to get work? He is Johnny Drama…..nothing but cheese. Please, is anyone listening!!!!
Hey, didn’t NBC already have this show and cancel it last year?
I believe it was called Southland.
And I’m willing to bet it will still be superior to this latest reincarnation head-to-head even while over at TNT.
Michael Ealy yes. Van der Beek no way. That guy Cliff Curtis would be good too if he can pull off mexican like he did in Training Day
lmao @ bad forced laughing of the thespian variety. there’s gotta be a gif of that rapaport scene somewhere..
Skeet is the HOTTEST …….I’m crossing my fingers for him to get the role ……
James Van Der Beek YES WAY!

Let’s please balance the testosterone with some strong female principals.
SKEET all the way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hands down! Great Actor who is greatly underated….(Not to mention his good looks!)…..miss him and Jericho!
Speaking of strong female principals, how about another Jericho actor, Alicia Coppola. She’d be perfect in any Law and Order type show and she already did a great role on Criminal Intent.
Iam a fan of law&order & donot know y they have to have a new one I like the old one y not revamp the old one

Dear Law & Order …. I would have to say … I am the ULTIMATE law & Order Fan …… I am 60+ years old … and there are reruns everyday here is San Diego. The sad part about this “move” to LA” is – that I felt that — Epatha, Jeremy and Anthony – they were GREAT together. Now they are broken up.
Ms. Merkensen – she is an extremely talent actress … and I hate to see the NYC city “orginal – Law & Order” canceled and moved to LA.
Mr. Wolf – thank you for 20 Years in NYC —- your show was authentic – filmed in NYC —- I got the feeling – just watching the show.
I hope the new Law & Order: LA … casts the right people. I worked
in law enforcement for almost 24 years …. thus, I “saw” how
authentic the show was …. I trust that they’ll be a complete
box set of all 20 years —- I’ll be the first person to buy all 20 years ……. Sam Waterston was GREAT. What an actor.
As were Jesse L. Martin and Jerry Orbach (my favorite of them all). JERRY ORBACH …. A WONDERFUL ACTOR AND MOST IMPORTANTLY
A BEAUTIFUL PERSON TO EVERYONE. HE IS IN A CLASS BY HIMSELF.
If I figure this out correctly I will be “80″ years old when Law & Order: LA reaches – 20 years on the air.
Mr. Wolf. I am 60 years old, I literally have probably seen
every L & O episode at least 4-5 times. I remember that Chris
Noth – my 2nd all-time favorite … GREAT ACTOR IN EVERY WAY ..
His brother got a “walk on” in I believe the 1st year – he read
out loud to the “Court” – the charges against the defendant – and then they decided the bail. Mr. Wolf – where do I sign up – or could I at least be on the jury – anything. I live in San Diego – jist two hours away. I served in the Military from 1968-1972 … with 1 year in Vietnam (1970-1971) .. and 24 years in law
enforcement after I graduated from college. Yes, I am begging
for any part ….. I would love to be on at least one episode,
P-L-E-A-S-E !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
God Bless All of You,
To 20 more good years …
Roger Christensen
PS: Please forgive me … Benjamin Bratt and Jerry Orbach – they were GREAT together !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
