EXCLUSIVE: Management/production companies 3 Arts and Untitled Entertainment are in merger talks. I’m not certain they are going to join forces, but they are exploring it seriously. The potential mix of assets of the two companies is intriguing. 3 Arts — run by Erwin Stoff, Michael Rotenberg, Howard Klein, David Miner and Dave Becky – is particularly strong in the producing department. On the TV side, that includes 30 Rock, The Office, Parks and Recreation, It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, HBO’s Bored to Death, and the FX comedy Louie. Among the features is I Am Legend, Street Kings, and All You Need Is Kill, the latter a priority project at Warner Bros that just got Doug Liman aboard to direct.
Untitled, which is run by Jason Weinberg, Stephanie Simon, Guy Oseary, Gene Parseghian and Johnnie Planco, has a strong talent list that include Daniel Day-Lewis, Hilary Swank, Alex Rodriguez, Madonna, Naomi Watts, David Caruso, Penelope Cruz, Ashton Kutcher, Jeremy Renner, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Chris O’Donnell, Taylor Kitsch, Demi Moore, Blake Lively and Simon Baker.
The 3 Arts talent list includes Keanu Reeves, Tina Fey, director Francis Lawrence, Robert Pattinson, Chris Evans, Steve Coogan, Mike Judge, Greg Daniels, Jeff Garlin, Howie Mandel, Tracy Morgan, Amy Poehler, Jason Bateman and Cuba Gooding Jr.
I’m told the principals continue talking, mindful of the challenge in meshing cultures and forging a new power structure. Word about the possible union has begun to spread around Hollywood and I’m told that if a trip to the altar is going to happen, they’ll know by Labor Day. Untitled’s Weinberg–who has previously talked to other firms about a linkup–didn’t immediately return my call. 3 Arts’ Stoff did. While he didn’t answer the merger question head on, he didn’t deny it and his response certainly indicates to me that something is afoot.
“We are always interesting in exploring opportunities which can expand the scope and breadth of our business,” Stoff told me. “We have had a great relationship with the partners at Untitled for a decade and have admired the business they’ve built.” Stay tuned.

3 Arts has passed on every merger opportunity offered for 15 years and this is what they do? What a mistake that would be. Smoke and mirrors, that’s all Untitled is. Ten clients in the door and nine clients out, every six months. Can’t wait until Weinberg has to open those books up and the moths come out. Assuming they move Untitled to BH, at least the air in Century City will clear up from all Weinberg’s BS and I can walk to lunch again.
Agreed – Untitled has nothing. They are a lame management company… this is a company that has a meeting once a week to arrogantly boast about how they are the top management company in the biz and that every competing management company is below them. Then they gossip about the industry, give eachother pats on the back and feed their faces.
I was in a company meeting with Weinberg once where he said Fergie followed him around a room practically begging him to manager her, and then continued to say that an A-lister actress (I forget her name) was a horrible actress and that he would never repp her. As if he was able to choose.
what about Gene and Johnny? it’s not just Weinberg?!! these guys represent Daniel Day Lewis, Judy Dench etc. This is a good thing. Now lets stop talking about it. thanks
I remember the Actress! It was Jessica Alba. Okay, maybe she is not an A-lister, but still pretty damn rude.
Yay! Do it.
3 Arts is better off without Untitled. This is a merger that shouldn’t happen.
The culture at Untitled is always about Weinberg – he wines and signs and the other people do the work. 3 Arts isn’t about to tolerate that thinking. And besides the partners there, most of the people at Untitled are in their own orbits and might as well have individual co’s.
“We are always interesting in exploring opportunities which can expand the scope and breadth of our business”
Say what you will but this merger is not a bad idea. First, it’s doubtful that every manager at both companies will still stay (both by choice and by force). This merger is about bringing the amazing produce-able talent roster that Jason and Untitled have and mixing it with the unstoppable production power of 3Arts. And as far as “Weinberg BS” goes, Jason is a signer. That’s what he does and he’s damn good at it. Of course he can’t do all of the work himself and appointments the managers that work for him to cover the clients. That is business. When the clients need him, he’s there. When someone else can handle the job, they do. Weinberg is the most straight forward manager in town. No ego. No bullshit. Only hard work. You try working as hard as he does… it won’t end well for you.
Marvin is right. That guy smells from the bull pucky. Smells real bad.
Why on earth would a classy company like 3 Arts soil its top notch reputation, and the relationships of the 3 Arts partners, by joining forces with those duplicitous amateurs at Untitled? Erwin should run away, not walk. Run Erwin Run!!!
there sure are a lot of bitter people out there that weinberg has beaten out for clients. the guy has an amazing roster and the clients we share with him are happy, and more importantly, working. fault him for not knowing how to drive, sure. but it’s hard to find a manager that works harder.
this merger makes a lot of sense if you think about it, 3arts has become the best management company that produces and untitled’s roster is pretty hard to beat from top to bottom.
“Anonymous”… aka Jason Weinberg
After working with Weinberg for the past 15 years, all I can say is the guy has been nothing but stand up… He cares about each and every client as equals, when one has an issue, he is there to solve it. My agency has had nothing but a great relationship with Untitled and I think the same could be said about their clients.
All of Jason’s clients who I know personally have been with him for years and value him not only professionally, but personally as well
Too much jealousy in this town.. Wishing Untitled the best of luck with whatever the future holds
Are there any more Untitled assistants left to post this crap? Please. Yeah he works hard. It must be hard work making up all those stories about the careers hes built. Much more interesting than the truth which is all those tabloid photos hes staged. Thats not management its PR. And Jason is still just a publicist with a better rolodex and bigger stones.
being that 3arts is the best in the biz, they will only become bolstered by the merger
pretty simple.
Out of all the management firms 3 ARTS are the best producers with the best deals, and it’s not even close. They have a very strong comedy list and solid people who work there. Add that to Untitled’s list of actors and this is a monster home run, no question.
I don’t think Daniel Day Lewis knows Weinberg manages him. You should let him know..
Gene Parseghian is Daniel Day Lewis’ rep and has been for 20 years. Read the article; the company is run by a quality group – Guy Oseary reps Madonna, Stephanie has taken Ashton and Taylor from models to movie stars.
Likewise 3arts isn’t just Erwin, Rotenberg has made a killing from Mike Judge, Howard Klein has an unparalleled television producer lis with Greg Daniels, Jonathan Prince and more.
3arts has a great production arm and Untitled has a great talent arm, this would be a good thing for both of them.
I’m pretty sure DDL knows that he’s been calling Gene Parseghian to handle his business for the past 20 years.
This makes a lot of sense if you think about it. If 3arts is going to expand it’s not going to be with another comedy company so Mosaic and Principato are out. They’d never merge with Geyer the liar, 360 (most of those partners left from 3arts) or Brillstein (also too into the production business), so if they’re going to merge Untitled makes the most sense.
Lot of hate comments about Untitled, so let me throw one at 3 Arts… I’ve been there twice, and neither time did they do a single thing for me. Biggest waste of money in my entire career.
Irwin Stoff has been phoning it in for a few years now. He has no interest in management whatsoever just producing. And he’s not a producer – taking credits on Keanu movies doesn’t count. And do people care about Keanu these days? And how much more running around can the guy do at like 70? I know he’s doing Water for Elephants (which should be as successful for Reese as Rendition.) He has sat down with every management company in the world to try and merge and no one is interested except (omfg) Untitled (they’ve passed on all mergers? Jesus enter the fucking business.) These two companies deserve each other. Going to vomit now.
P.S. Why are Miner and Becky starting their own company – if Peter and Paul can……
untitled is all smoke and mirrors. that talent roster isn’t stable. 3 arts should figure that out.
First of all, who’s career has Weinberg built, beside his own!?? Second, what does he know about material and strategy in getting a client a job??? Third, he’s got 10 of the same client in each category who conflict with one another! Lacks integrity to me!!! Actors are so desperate now that they buy the PR bull that Weinberg sells. But yes, they ultimately leave cuz of the form over substance! Be careful 3 arts!!!
First of all, who’s career has Weinberg built, beside his own!?? Second, what does he know about material and strategy in getting and guiding a clients career??? Third, he’s got 10 of the same client in each category who conflict with one another! Lacks integrity to me!!! Actors are so desperate now that they buy the PR bull that Weinberg sells. But yes, they ultimately leave cuz of only form over substance! Also, in one of his recent client aquisitions he sold the actor by bragging of the gr8 job he’s done for lindsey lohan! Be careful 3 arts!!!
let’s get down to the ish that matters… will this affect the amazing Chrismakkuh presents from Untitled?!?
Jessica Alba IS a horrible actress.
let’s not forget that Jason Weinberg represents Lindsay Lohan and has for years.
If there is a merge Pam Kohl at 3 Arts needs to be cut – she is not a good fit with the good group of Untitled managers.
Pam Kohl is a fantastic manager and is representing the next big A-list actress in Chloe Moretz. Watch.
she gets films made – she has several this year, and jst packaged the financing for the “margin call” project, and now cassian elwes and untitled and she are working together on a bunch of other projects.
Having recently worked with Pam Kohl I can say she is a consummate professional. Smart, timely, constructive & always approachable. She’s fantastic and I’m thrilled she is at 3 Arts; but anyone would be fortunate to have her working with/for them.
