Alfred Molina has joined Skeet Ulrich on NBC’s upcoming Law & Order spinoff, Law & Order: Los Angeles. He will play Deputy D.A. Morales. ”I am thrilled that Fred is LOLA‘s Deputy D.A.,” creator-executive producer Dick Wolf said. “He joins a remarkable list of some of America’s greatest character actors like Sam Waterson, Vincent D’Onofrio, Jeff Goldblum, Steven Hill, Dianne Wiest and Michael Moriarity as stars of the Law & Order-branded series.”
Ulrich was previously tapped to play Detective Rex Winters, one of the two detectives at the center of the crime procedural. Production on LOLA is slated to begin on Aug. 2 for a Sept. 22 premiere.
Molina is coming off a Tony-nominated turn on Broadway in Red. On the big screen, he is currently seen in The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. LOLA will mark Molina’s first regular series gig since the 2002 sitcom Bram and Alice. Law & Order: Los Angeles is a Wolf Films production in association with Universal Media Studios. Wolf, Rene Balcer, Blake Masters and Peter Jankowski are executive producers.

this is fantastic. as an addict of all law and orders, an L.A. native who loves the NYC landscape I have had doubts about this. But, with this cast and the Dick Wolf gang, I know I’ll be wrong and they’ll find a way to reveal the underbelly of this city in an interesting way.
Wow. This show is coming together very well. First Skeet Ulrich now Alfred Molina. Quite a cast. I’m a long time Law and Order die hard and am excited to see this..
How about, Law & Order: Fresno, Law & Order: Newark, Law & Order: Binghamton, Law & Order: St Paul, Law & Order: Flagstaff, Law & Order: Baltimore. Do I have to go on? STOP THIS!
I am TIRED! Of people critizing Law & Order: LA because L&O got canceled and CI/SVU suck now! Watch the got-dang freakin’ show! It’s getting a bang up cast – it’s not all about Hollywood Red Carpet stars (Ulrich/Molina are not that much red carpet/splashed all over headlines)! I heard they’re not even going to be big on Hollywood guest stars!
The show is created by Wolf/Master w/ Balcer as EP! It’s STILL LAW & ORDER! JUST BASED IN LOS ANGELES!
I HOPE THEY CREATED A LAW & ORDER: ATLANTA OR CHICAGO NEXT!
Oh wow, what a triumph. Now I will definitely watch.
The only thing Dick Wolf creates these days are headaches for his production and writing staffs…
LOLA series was created by Blake Masters.
Amen to that!
Law and order: East 11th st between 1st and 2nd avenues. It’s a niche market kind of show
All these puffy “I can’t wait!” and “Great news! He’s the best!” type of comments after each piece of casting news has me dizzy. I believe many – not all – of these posts are penned by P.R. flacks. I base this on the fact that this is an NBC show so nobody gives a damn. It’s NBC! Nobody outside of the actor’s team pays attention to this network anymore.
Please stop writing about NBC. Maybe if we ignore it it will go away completely.
Fantastic casting choice. This show is going to be good.
Let’s hope this stinker fails really fast! Law and Order belongs in New York!
So….they start filming in a week and a half and just now got the 2nd member of the main cast? I like the 2 so far but come on…..a week and a half and they don’t have a complete cast. I have a feeling they might push back the start date on this one.
What next, Law & Order: The Movie!
The problem is that in LA, we elect our underbelly.
Anyone know if Wolf will allow this series staff bottled water?
In the past, it has been a big no-no.
Love Alfred Molina. Now I will watch the show. I am not a PR flack just a huge fan of Molina.
I second Maggie’s comment. Alfred Molina is a super actor and he raises the level of anything he appears in. I’ll always be a L&O fan, and with this cast I’ll be sure to watch LOLA. Enough with all the bad mouthing about this and the other L&O’s – watch first, then you have the right to comment.
I lovelovelove Molina. Wasn’t planning on watching one second of this show, but I think I’ll at least watch one episode for him.
