A roundup of what else happened today on the deal front: HBO and Playtone partners Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman are determined to show the versatility of Paul Giamatti. He played American patriot John Adams in the miniseries that won 13 Emmys for Playtone and HBO. Now, they’ve got him playing Russian leader Nikita Khrushchev in K Blows Top, an adaption of the Peter Carlson book that is being scripted as a telepic by Paul Bernbaum. Project was brought to Playtone by KippSter Entertainment’s Perri Kipperman and David Stern, who’ll be co-exec producers. Hanks and Goetzman will be exec producers… Yesterday, Deadline told you that Justin Timberlake was in talks to play the male lead in I’m.Mortal, the Andrew Niccol-directed film for New Regency and Fox that stars Amanda Seyfried. The deal’s getting close, Deadline now hears… Million Dollar Arm, the Mitch Glazer-scripted fact-based baseball film about a scout’s search for hurlers in India that Deadline first told you about in April 29 when Columbia was making a deal, reportedly will land at Disney instead with Mark Ciardi, Gordon Gray and Joe Roth still on the producer roster… Sony Pictures Entertainment picked up Mommy & Me, which Stanley Tucci is attached to direct.

Paul Giamatti playing Khrushchev sounds perfect. Anyone know what time period this covers in the Cold War? Perri and David are great- nice to see manager’s who open production companies using it to do creative things for their clients.
There may be determination to show Giametti talent but would prefer showing how to make a repulsive person into an someone an audience will watch. Was always an excellent character actor who like mark wahlberg longs to be Cary Grant.have u ever heard anyone say let’s run out and see the latest giametti movie. He should have quit after american splendor. I try and avoid ANYTHING in which he appears. His acting goes from boring to insufferable to unwatchable
So does your grammar.
Justin Timberlake in I.M.MORTAL? – WRONG CASTING!
Amanda Seyfried in I.M.MORTAL? – WRONG CASTING!
You have to be freaking kidding me. Paul is not only a fantastic actor but also one of the nicest most humble individuals out there. “Cary Grant?” Are you jealous cuz others in the industry realize his talent and offer him incredible parts. If your idea of a great actor lies in their beauty, then go re-watch your Twilight DVD’s. I’ve worked with Paul and you can’t imagine working with someone so professional and nice. You sir are a moron.
@Giamatti friend “One of the nicest most humble individuals” Are you kidding? The man is a shmuck. He thanked his wife, then took it back in his emmy speech. That is not a “nice” thing to do to the mother of your children. Rewind the tape and watch it again if you think me too harsh.
Wow. To all the Giamatti haters, I cite one role in his defense. As Inspector Uhl in “The Illusionist” he did something no actor has ever done before. He pulled off a Swedish accent without sounding like a Muppet! Love him or leave him, this man has talent regardless of his alleged “Schmuckyness”.
