EXCLUSIVE: I hear the CBS pilot Chaos has sprung back to life in the past 24 hours. This is the latest twist to the story of the 20th Century Fox TV-produced CIA drama pilot, which was close to a midseason pickup by CBS but the deal ultimately fell apart on June 30 after five weeks of negotiations. I hear the groundwork was laid by CAA, which represents the project, and the resurrection process took a step forward yesterday when CBS’ entertainment president Nina Tassler had lunch with 20th TV chairmen Dana Walden and Gary Newman to discuss the matter. I hear the Brett Ratner-directed Chaos is now back on track for a midseason series order at CBS, possibly as a co-production between 20th TV and CBS TV Studios. The only major obstacle is bringing back the cast, led by Freddy Rodriguez, which was released on June 30 when the actors’ options expired. I hear the actors have been approached about returning and things look optimistic on that front. I also hear a decision on the future of the project could come as soon as today. It probably will be final this time, though with Chaos, you never know. As one industry insider commented, ”This process has been absurd beyond belief; the most aptly titled pilot of all times.”
CBS has been high on Chaos creator Tom Spezialy and his work on the pilot. The network recently inked a blind script deal with him for a new CBS Studios-based project.

First thought that springs to mind – CBS have finally realised they need a back-up for when the ‘Criminal Minds’ spin-off bombs and they pull it…
Love the premise of Chaos and Freddy Rodrieguz is an awesome actor….keeping my fingers crossed!
Are any other “dead” pilots that may be resurrected? I am particularly hoping to see Our Show and the Adam Carolla Show.
Maybe hope for the other CIA pilot, Nomads – CW needs a rebranding strat, bad, and a high octane actioner like Chaos might be the way to go
I hope this gets picked up. Freddy Rodrieguz and Eric Close are two people I want to see on my screen.Especially Eric Close, he got overlooked during the last seasons of Without A Trace after it became the Poppy Montgomery and her baby Daddy show.
What’s going on with The CW’s HMS? Will it be picked up to series?
It will get put on the air on Fridays and will be cancelled after 3 episodes, that’s the pessimistic talking.
This show should die. That script was god awful.
The Adam Corolla pilot was a terrible mess. Not worth resurrecting, IMO.
Anyone know who’s the executive covering this at CBS or 20thC?
this just proves nothing should be considered totaly dead in holly wood not even tv shows for chaos seems to be living up to its name given all the trouble its causing for cbs trying to make it a reality
The main draw in this show for me was James Murray and seeing him work with Freddy Rodriguez and Eric Close (great line-up), plus the behind-the-camera team of Spezialy and Ratner. The premise was good…it’s time we had something innovative on our American networks. I’ve been watching BBC for most of my viewing. Now, with Chaos, I may be back.
Couldn’t agree more!!!! I am a huge James Murray fan. I also have found myself watching BBC america quite a bit. But this line-up of hot young actors really has me excited about heading back to Prime-time T.V.(at least part of the time).
With the dearth of good, creative shows on The Big Three networks in the U.S. I, too, have been spending much of my time on BBC America. It is there I discovered the talented James Murray in the fun and innovative series, Primeval. I am very excited to see him make the jump across the pond and join the cast of Chaos. Having seen the work of Eric Close and Freddy Rodriguez I am really looking forward to seeing these three stars together on screen.
