Hammer Films has confirmed Twitterings about Radcliffe starring in its 3D gothic thriller. Based on the modern classic novel, The Woman In Black is being adapted by Jane Goldman (Kick-Ass), and will be directed by James Watkins (Eden Lake). Shooting begins later this year. Exclusive Media Group – Hammer’s parent company – is co-financing with Canadian distributor Alliance Films. It’s also handling international sales. Watkins did such a good job on Eden Lake, I can’t wait to see this one.

It’s a great little ghost story but having read the book a couple times I’m not sure where 3D comes into it, unless it’s for an all CGI Woman figure, which I imagine is what they are going to do with her.
If the production design is right, and the chills in the book translate into the screen this could be very good, but the biggest problem in the book is it’s not hard to figure out where the story goes at the end.
If it’s a faithful adaption, even folks who haven’t read the book may well be ahead of the story watching it.
I can wait. I can’t think of one film that Exclusive/Hammer has made that’s good and commercial. Curious to see if Mr. Radcliffe can actually make money for people outside of Harry Potter. Time will tell. (Same with the Twilight stars)
It’s good to know that Daniel will be in other film. I miss him already, though The Deadly Hallows are not in cinema yet…
I hope its shooting in NYC–since DR will be starring on Broadway in “How To Succeed” for the next year…
Hedge fund managers and financiers don’t make good filmmakers.
Having seen the play, it’s a very effective piece so should transfer nicely to the big screen. All the right elements are in place and it will be interesting to see which way the writer and director take it. But, yes, it does have a predictability and whether it really needs 3D is a moot point. Daniel Radcliffe has proven he can move beyond HP but will this film draw that audience? Or are the producers aiming for an older demographic? Maybe they are adapting it beyond all recognition. Oh well, not my money or problem.
It’s nice to know Daniel Radcliffe will have a life after Potter. I’m excited!
