2ND UPDATE: Deadline has learned that representatives for both Justin Timberlake and Elton John are denying there’s anything real behind that published rumor that both musicians are in talks to replace Simon Cowell as a permanent judge on American Idol. A Justin insider says the report is “just silly” because Timberlake has no time for a gig like this. That’s because his film career is really taking off after acting turns in David Fincher’s Oscar-touted The Social Network as well as Bad Teacher and Friends with Benefits. And he’s been offered the lead in the Andrew Niccols-directed I’m Mortal for New Regency and Fox. Elton John’s name surfaced the moment Cowell announced his exit and there have been talks since then. Plus, he’s got the album “Union” with Leon Russell. The singer’s UK publicist Gary Farrow told me that “Elton’s got commitments right up until next year. As we stand at the moment, Elton has no plans to do that show.” Which is why he gave Deadline London editor Tim Adler this blunt quote: “It’s absolute rubbish. This story’s three months old. There’s more chance of me fucking you than Elton being on U.S. Idol.”

Don’t believe Farrow. They’re still talking to Elton’s reps.

Please stop drinking the J Timberlake acting career Kool Aid…Are you kidding me. “Film career taking off”, he will NEVER be a succesful actor and his genius managers are ruining his music career at the same time for the sake of these horrible films. As a friend say’s, “Do What You Do”…AND that is not acting for JT.
Elton is the only guy who would ensure bigger ratings than Simon — and would bring the show into a new creative era. I hope this isn’t posturing over money.
I don’t believe Elton’s publicist either. Idol’s producers know that Elton John as a judge would represent a big ratings boost to the fading ratings powerhouse. And Elton can do his Vegas gigs while exposing himself to a younger audience (no pun intended). He hasn’t had that opportunity since Disney’s The Lion King. C’mon, who better to replace a bitchy old queen than another bitchy old queen? Yeah, yeah I know Simon isn’t gay—but he’s a bitchy old queen nonetheless. I love them both.
What happened to Bret Michaels being a judge?
Elron’s Vegas “Red Piano” gig ended its run several years ago. He is very busy with other commitments, so being a judge on “Idol” just cannot be accomplished.
