Way more interesting than this Bravo video clip of Lindsay Lohan being fawned over after showing up 11 hours late to a photo session is The Young Turks’ commentary about it here. (“That’s why she thinks she’s untouchable… They’re enabling her behavior… They’re constantly giving her encouragement to be the train wreck that she is.”) But is this Hollywood’s fault — or the media’s?
Editor-in-Chief Nikki Finke - tip her here.

Which was more painful, watching the video or watching Young Turks (who I normally like) rip on it?
“This is so not worth our time, so lets spend 8 minutes talking about it.”
It has all the disingenuousness of the nerds at the table mocking the jocks while wishing so desperately that they were one of them so they could bang the cheerleaders.
Not that I’m projecting.
And this response reminds me of the refrain of the popular kids when they finally get called on something – “They’re jealous of us. It’s not me, it’s them.”
Agree 100%. The lady and dude doth protest too much. And…am I the only one who actually thinks LiLo looks smokin’ hot in that shoot?
Just saying.
Why would they want to be like her? Cenk’s happily married with a kid on the way. Ana has a stable life with her boyfriend. They get paid to talk about stuff on camera. Do you really think they’re so stupid that they dream of being a walking jissom receptacle?
I think that talking about this stuff in the way they’re doing is important. If you don’t call out the bullshit and criticize it for its fakeness, it becomes real. That’s truly disingenuous.
Why do people always bring up “Hollywood.” This has more to do with the media and fashion industry than Hollywood. Is she making a movie? NO. The fashion industry, gossip rags, and all of that other garbage media outlets are the real culprits. Everytime you turn on shows that focus on media and celebrities they always behave like what they’re doing is the most important job in the planet and that they have the right to behave like arrogant, spoiled, wannabes. The behavior you see doesn’t come from making movies, it comes from the publicists and media outlets treating celebrities like they’re special.
Actually, this has nothing to do with the fashion industry and everything to do with Hollywood. If you kept a major fashion photographer and a major fashion editor waiting for more than an hour, the shoot would be canceled. Models show up, do what they’re told, and leave—or they’re not hired again.
Why are so many of these girls spoiled and arrogant? You don’t think it has something to do with the agents who make them think they’re worth $10 million a movie? Oh, and last time I checked, publicists were part of the Hollywood cog, too…
I don’t understand why some media still refer to her as “poor promising talented actress… And evil justice system put this confused baby to jail…” What make people think that she has talent first of all? Heat Ledger was doing silly rom coms and then he did cameo in Monster Ball and then Brockback. It showed he had talent. Lindsay Lohan was doing teen comedies and in every single one of them she basically looked the same. And played the same role. Almost like Jennifer Aniston does. She was in cameo in movie with Meryl Streep and Bobby. With 30 other stars. Where did she show she had some Talent? It teen comedies? Why do this media don’t feel sorry for Misha Barton then too? Or Paris Hilton? She had a nice produced hit-song Stars are Blind. It was everywhere. Why don’t they wrote: “Paris Hilton, once promised and talented singer, this poor confused baby went to jail…”
It’s the same with Lohan. You see this people in the video. They waited for her hours…. They could have gone home to their kids or relax. But they had to sit and wait for hours while this poor child was having somewhere a party and throwing drugs and alcohol in her. And this probably happens to every her photoshoot. Jane Fonda and Felicity Huffman and director and other stuff were sitting and waiting while this child was too good to show up on the set of Georgia Rule. How can you feel sorry for her? I felt sorry for Britney Spears. Because she has mental problems. Yeah – she is stupid like table but all of her bald breakdown was because she was mental sick. The judge that ordered conservatorship to her dad basically saved her life. She does not wondering in the streets at nights anymore.
You see DiCaprio and Justin Timberlake and even Shia LaBeuf that were in the same spotlight as Lohan. Shia is being everyday followed by paparazzi. But you don’t see him everyday in the clubs. He learned his lesson with that drunk accident. You don’t see him drank in the car wondering streets.
The ONLY reason that Lohan is this famous is because of her drug problems. If she would be sober she would now be on the level of some Rachel Bilson or other teen stars from rom coms. She could never play some serious roles. I don’t see that talent in her. She never showed one.
Leo, Justin & Shia all have very close relationships with their mothers which keeps them grounded. Lindsay has a trainwreck for a mom who did not provide a stable anchor and thus this promising talent is adrift.
Lindsay’s tabloid notoriety came AFTER her teen fame (Parent Trap. Mean Girls etc.) She is infamous for misbehavior but she became famous as an actress.
I doubt simply commenting on the imbalance of the celebrity industry isn’t being jealous just as commenting about a drunk doesn’t mean you want to be one. Its actually sad as much attention she in particular has gotten and yet there she is again.
I had a ton of tweets and had to avoid inordinate amount of main news coverage about her and her troubles. A Page Six article maybe but a lead story on the networks – not so much.
If I ignore her will she go away?
Even the most sympathetic director interested in giving her a career would RUN from this one. She’s impossible.
Enlighten me; is this drugs or ADD? (I’ve never been on drugs)
**This is SO last week, btw.
I think it’s a little column A, and a little column B. Both enable bad celebrity behavior. First you have the media hyping her up for being unprofessional, drug/drink addled, and out of control, because there’s a segment of the population willing to pay to see her fall apart in a case of mass schadenfreude.
Then you have the people like at the photo-shoot. There should be someone there to carve her a new one for costing so much money for so little reward, but it’s not going to be them, because they’re all getting overtime paid for by someone else. And it’s not going to be the money people because they’re operating under the illusion that if the star acts badly, it will create hype that they hope will spill over to their product/movie/record/whatever. It’s a vicious circle that rarely works in any way other than wasting a lot of time and money.
they hysterical part is that i work in reality tv and found myself thinking, “i wonder what the fuss is about, this was exactly like my day on set”.
that’s why reality TV is RETARDED.
Most people in the spotlight are egomaniacs (most, not all), be it sports, movies, music, etc. But the media really should shoulder most of the blame. Were it not for sub-mental shitpiles like TMZ, E! Television and Access Hollywood, 90% of this crap wouldn’t make it outside of Hollywood.
Nikki, don’t take it personally. You talk more about the business side of Hollywood than you do these no talent morons like Lohan.
It’s simply amazing that so many people have been so intensely adamant about punishing and imprisoning this girl as if their very lives have been disrupted or harmed by her. So she’s clueless, ignorant, and feels entitled to do whatever she wants without consequences? There are very few people her age who don’t have these exact same traits, even if they’re not as consistently drawing attention to themselves as Lindsey does.
Yesterday I had a life that this insignificant Hollywood ‘actress’ had no effect on whatsoever – I have that same life today, and it’s no better or worse because of the way she chooses to live her’s.
Isn’t this latest incident some very cheap satisfaction for any person who ISN’T Lindsey Lohan? Or have their own miserable lives finally been redeemed now that they can move forward without this horrible miscarriage of justice gnawing at their insides?
I’ll check the media to see if there are any celebratory parades in the street somewhere nearby, since so many seem to be rejoicing in what they perceive as “Justice Served”? If I had been that worked up over this non-news, I’d have to re-evaluate the worthiness of my own life that it would be so empty that something like this registers any higher reaction than ‘meh’.
I’m not defending Lindsay Lohan in any way, because obviously she has serious issues and is not surrounded by people that are good for her — but what is the photographer supposed to do when she arrives? Bitch at her for five minutes for being late, then say “okay, now smile!” You can’t do that.
They were in the position of having to do what they had to do to get a performance out of her that would salvage the situation. They needed to get the shots in the time they had. They had to play nice to her face or THEY would have then ruined the shoot completely.
You get tough with Lindsay through her agent afterward. That’s the only recourse you really have unless you want to lose ALL the money you put into it.
Actors and models aren’t robots. You have to walk a fine line. But I wouldn’t doubt that Lindsay KNOWS this is how people will treat her because they HAVE to in order to get any kind of decent performance out of her. Many actors know that and will push it. But that’s not the fault of the photographer who was DOING HIS JOB.
Lindsay has problems. But these Young Turks are just looking for stupid ways to pile on.
RE: “But is this Hollywood’s fault — or the media’s?”
Please explain the difference between Hollywood and the media.
These commentators are morons without a clue. If the woman has already cost them $100k by being so late, of COURSE they’re going to coddle her and blow smoke up their ass. If they start berating her, they’re going to lose MORE money when she flips out and walks off.
The irony of this video is that these TYT idiots are sponges, glomming off the fame of someone else.
Pot calling the kettle black.
Nikki, it’s not Hollywood OR the media that’s responsible for the train wreck that is Lindsay Lohan… it’s Hollywood AND the media.
You just proved their point. They’re criticizing the bullshit system that rewards people who crawl up her ass.
And how are they glomming off the fame of someone else? Are you glomming off of TYT’s fame by commenting on their video? Am I glomming off your fame by commenting on your comment? No. We’re just giving our opinions on stuff.
I kinda get why they needed to gush on her. If they comed down on her, she leaves. Even though they are overbudget, they will be even more overbudget if they can’t get their work done. So unfortunately, they have to do some faux-ss kissing just to get there job done. It’s part of the game.
You hit the nail on the head. The crew needed to get their work done when the star arrived. This happens EVERY DAY on film, tv and photo shoots.
Totally agree. Not only is 100k in the hole a TV producer plot point (because real photographers are constantly being held up by models, actors, etc… it’s common) but what’s more interesting is how low Lilo’s career has sunk. The photographic crew is low grade. She was probably late because it took that long to talk herself into believing shooting this crap was good for her career.
And the commentators, well… pure idiocy for buying it at all – and offensive for wasting our time.
Wow. I’m no LL fan, but those unattractive, overweight Young Turks hosts going on, and on about how “awful” she looked was painful to endure. Much more painful than her spontaneous and startling immaturity. Their immaturity was scripted, crafted, and honed. I found theirs more offensive.
I think you missed the point. They’re not saying that Lindsay looks awful in the sense that she’s ugly. She looks awful in the sense that she looks like she just spent the night shoving shit up her nose, and then fell asleep in a gutter.
If you watch the video again, you’ll notice that Cenk recognized the fact that he’s an ugly guy(at about 5:44), he’s not saying that he’s attractive. He’s saying that complimenting people like that is fake and destructive.
And how is Ana overweight and unattractive? Cenk’s a different story, but I think Ana’s fairly hot.
TYT are completely, 100% right on the money.
This is the nature of the beast. Anyone who works with celebrities in advertising knows it is a big game. You get their face on your product – and in return – you play this game. Even when you’re 11 hours late and in huge amounts of overtime – you smile and tell them they’re beautiful – cause you still want to finish ASAP and calling them on their shit gets you nowhere. You play the game, get your shots and go home. It’s what you do. You can’t “solve” Lindsay during a photo shoot – so instead, you stroke her ego, get people out of her eyeline – and get her the fuck out of there so you can go home and cash your check.
you’ve basically sold out the minute you agreed to pay her to endorse your product.
To act like this is something new or different or that its going to change is incredibly naive. And listening to these two prattle on is equally annoying.
All of those who expend our abilities in order to observe this are at fault, in the same way that all cars on a highway are at fault for causing traffic when they slow down to watch the carwreck.
So, should the first thing the photographer have said was “Why the hell are you so late you talentless hack?”
Then she would have probably left and they’d be more than $100K in the hole. Just get the damn shoot over with and then sue her afterwards for the damages.
In the real world, yeah, he should have. The criticism is of the entire world Lindsay lives in, and how it encourages her to hurt herself and everyone around her.
That makes no difference. You just get the shoot over with so you’re not more in the hole than you already are.
It’s not the photographers praising her…that needs to be done in order to get a good shoot. What shouldn’t happen is her continuing to get hired after causing so many delays.
What a couple of typical stupid talking heads. I’ve worked on over a hundred professional photoshoots and no mater how late your model is or how much overtime your spending( which for the most part doesn’t happen as all expenses are on a fixed rate) the single post important thing is getting the best shots and the reason why people are fawning over Lohan and saying how great she is to keep her in the upbeat mood so the photographer can get the best possible shots he can.
She’s so high/drunk. it’s awesome
lol TYT I love you <3 You make Lindsay Lohan watchable <3
There should be an official classification for fame diseases: fame-induced sex addiction (Tiger); fame-induced narcissism (take your pick); fame-induced procrastination (LL).
TYT is right on it. I agree that they have to kiss Lohans ass to get her to finish the shoot, but its ridiculous that at some point, someone doesn’t come down on her for not doing her job as she should, for not taking care of herself as she should, and for being the epitome of “bad” hollywood.
