Another hey-you-didn’t-pay-me-my-profits lawsuit. This time a Los Angeles jury sided with Don Johnson who was both the star and a producer on the 1990s crime series Nash Bridges. Johnson sued 3 entertainment companies in 2009, claiming he was owed millions in profits from the 1990s crime series by Rysher Entertainment, which contended the show had lost money despite 6 seasons on the air. The jury awarded Johnson $23.2M and determined that Johnson owned half of the copyright of the series. Rysher was bought by Mark Cuban and Todd Wagner from 2001-2006, and then sold to Qualia Capital. Rysher’s attorney, Bart Williams of Munger, Tolles & Olson, reacted: “Rysher is extremely disappointed in today’s verdict and will aggressively pursue all legal recourse. While we respect the jury’s right to their judgment, there are several matters of law that will form the basis of Rysher’s appeal. We are ready to undergo the appeals process and are confident that in the end, today’s outcome will be reversed.”

I guess now begins the years of appeals to keep him from actually collecting any of the money.
good 4 Don I have never seen the show.
Some of this so call producer don’t want to pay the Stars.
Good. Now Don can pay me $23.2M for having to listen to Heartbeat.
You mean, he also prevented you from turning off your radio? Impressive!
Hey, I liked that song, it had a good beat and he is such a cutie
Good for him!
Do NOT eff with Sonny Crockett! Go Don.
Well, I guess we have the answer. It’s not the Feds, the SEC, or a class action lawsuit that will bring down the corruption of back-end participation…
It’s Detective James Crockett (fabulous ’80s theme song rocks over)!
…I mean, Nash Bridges (cool, jazzy ’90s beat jives under)!
…I mean…(who else was he again?).
Whatever.
GO, DON, GO!
He was Harley f’n Davidson, that’s who.
No he was the Marlboro Man. Mickey Rourke was Harley Davidson. Don’t disrespect a classic.
Is that you, Don?
Actually Don was The Marlboro Man. I was Harley Davidson.
no crap man mickey rourke played harley don played marlboro man that was a cool movie im glad to see that mickeys coming back he damn well deserves it god bless mickey and may he keep this good luck 4 ever
“Don Johnson told jurors that the bulk of his “earning potential” had been over a period of about 15 years, and that spread out over a lifetime, his income may be similar to an average person’s earnings.”
Riiiiight. Most average people earn well over $40 million in their lifetimes.
This was his money and he got it back from Rysher. Good for him. He earned it and it was legally his. Too bad he had to sue to get it.
Now WB is claiming to have taken a loss on the Harry Potter movies.
The accounting of these studios is mobster like at best. The networks are no better.
Wow! That’s a massive verdict.
Go Don, GO!!! Good for you!
Their basis of appeal? Simple. They just need to claim it was not a jury of their peers! Judge, hello…. these were people sitting there. People! I mean, come on, really? People? Who were to dumb to get their personal assistant out of jury duty? Even Lindsay Lohan would have done better than that! And we are supposed to be judged by them? Joes and Janes? Are you joking? The law very clearly states that it needs to be a jury of our peers.
And since this is the United Corporations of America, we will not accept any judgement by anybody that has not been brought forth by Disney, Warner Bros, Paramount, Goldman & Sachs, AIG and other high value members of society sitting on the jury.
People… really.
As it is now well known, the Supreme Court has finally acknowledged that corporations are people, too. And if we combine that with the fundamental right of being judged by your peers, then this is what we will bring forth in a case before the Supreme Court. We cannot be judged by an archaic legal system that still clings to the notion that “everybody is equal under the law”, when we are clearly not! Anything else would be communism!
Maybe now he doesn’t have to money launder billions out of Switzerland.
the lawyers get their money up front on all these cases. They dont have to wait and the longer they drag the appeals process out the more money they make. It’s all about commerce and has nothing to do with “justice” for anyone
The fact that Don had to sue proves one thing: contracts (I’m sure he had one) don’t mean Shiite if you don’t have the ability to collect your money. Rysher thought Don wouldn’t be able to collect. The jury proved those a-holes wrong.
