The Film Society of Lincoln Center has appointed Rose Kuo to be executive director. She replaces Mara Manus, who held the post for the last two years. The Film Society runs the New York Film Festival, which this fall kicks off by premiering the David Fincher-directed The Social Network. Among her new duties, Kuo will oversee the opening of the Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center, which ads two screens to Lincoln Center in 2011. Kuo has a varied resume. She produced and directed California AIDS Ride ’94, was exec producer of the Sundance winner The Fluffer, and she was a camera assistant to DP Haskell Wexler and assistant to film editor Thelma Schoonmaker.

Why no mention that she left her post as Artistic Director of AFI Fest, along with the other top posts when AFI cut the budget? I would think this would have been a big factor in her hiring.
Manus was despised by the NYC film community and made a series of costly mistakes that hurt the organization and alienated it’s members and board of directors. Good luck to Kuo, she has tiny shoes to fill.
Rose was also Director of the AFI Film Festival for the past 3 years and is a well respected, seasoned film festival professional. (She’s also a very nice, very knowledgable film buff). Congrats Rose!
Rose is a class act!!
does this MEAN that Manus is now available to star
in the film version of WICKED…she sure has the pointy nose and chin for it! Manus should go back to working with the homeless..
better fit.
We wish Rose Kuo a rich and productive experience at the Film Society of Lincoln Center. As a long-time projectionist associated with the NYFF since the early 1980s, we foresee the digital media changes coming that Rose will be dealing with. But we all know that story is the driving element and direction and acting the tools that make the story into great cinema. Congratulations and best wishes to Rose Kuo.
