EXCLUSIVE: Halle Berry has committed to lead an ensemble cast in Shoe Addicts Anonymous, an adaptation of the bestselling St. Martin’s Press novel by Beth Harbison. Directing is Paul Weiland, the British helmer whose film credits include Made of Honour and whose TV work includes the series Mr. Bean and Blackadder: Back & Forth.
The comedy looks at the lives of four Chicago women from different ethnic backgrounds, bonded by two things. They are shoe addicts who wear the same size. They form a support group, swap 7.5s and become—wait for it—sole sisters. Eventually their bond goes beyond footwear. Berry will play an agoraphobe who feeds her addiction with online footwear purchases. The film’s her first comedy since Bulworth.
The script was written by Kristen Buckley & Brian Regan (How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days), the film’s produced by Galgos Entertainment’s Russell Nuce and Mark Bozek, and Parallel Media’s Raymond Markovich and Arcadiy Golubovich. Parallel is financing the film and handling foreign sales. No domestic distributor yet. They are about to cast the other actresses.
Berry will make the film before she stars on Broadway in Katori Hall’s The Mountaintop, which is being directed by Fences helmer Kenny Leon. She plays a hotel maid who delivers a meal to Martin Luther King Jr., on the evening before he’s assassinated.

wow – this could be a huge hit.
She’s perfect for the character!!!
So, we’re not counting Catwoman as a comedy?
She hasn’t been in a film that was both critically and commercially successful in 9 years; is it possible for an actress her age to resurrect her career, like it has been possible for aged actors like Rourke and Downey?
Beautiful talented actress who happens to be a fashion icon, sharp witty commercial director and subject matter that women will die for…sounds like a HUGE HUGE hit in the making. Can’t wait to hear who will round out the cast.
Don’t u know X-men or Monster’s Ball ?
It’s not old !
So….basically, Sisterhood of he Traveling Pants for adults?
Every female agent in Hollywood and LA – and rather a lot of the male ones – are massive shoe addicts. It’s not right to name names and expose their soles. But you know you are. Far be it for this lonely/low paid asst. to say who. I’m lucky if i can afford a decent pair of 9 West with a tiny 2″ heal that has been repaired way more then once chasing you around the office. Be nicer to me or you will no longer be anonymous!
Wow – cool movie – should make shoe swapping sites popular!
She’s in a Bruckheimer series.
Too bad Parallel’s involved. They’re like a black hole for great movies and filmmakers.
You could not be more correct! They are the kiss of death for good projects.
LOL to you people, bitter losers I’m sure. To even know about Parallel you would have had to work with them since they are so new, which probably means that you are just one of the talentless morons they used for practice to establish their ability to finance high budget quality commercial films. It is really hilar indeed that “two” people commented one that same thing in reply to each other.
Wait…GOTHIKA wasn’t a comedy?
As a guy who only pays attention to women’s shoes when that’s all a woman is wearing, I have to say this sounds like a great idea. Too bad the Senate won’t let us trade film futures…
Ugh–more dated chick-flick crap? They’ve got to be kidding…
This is goint to be great! Can’t wait to see it!!
Let’s hope SHOE ADDICTS ANONYMOUS won’t be the first Halle Berry movie of a Beth Harbison book. SECRETS OF A SHOE ADDICT is even more entertaining and could easily be a sequel! Check it out Halle.
Oh please, this is not a book I could finish, much less a movie I would wast $30 bucks on watching, Halle Berry, Julia Roberts or Frannie Noname wouldn’t matter……Oh Hum
I’m so excited that this is being filmed but I can’t see Halle Berry as Sandra. Throughout the entire book Sandra battles her weight and clearly Halle does not share this problem.
I just finished the audiobook of Shoe Addicts Anonymous..thought it was super hilarious! I’m now on Secrets of a Shoe Addict! Looking forward to seeing it on the big screen!
