Sony Pictures has released another teaser trailer for the David Fincher-directed Facebook film The Social Network. This time, they’ve included the studio’s new Spider-Man, Andrew Garfield, who edged out a strong field of young actors because of his role as Eduardo Saverin in The Social Network.

If you had asked me a last year if I wanted to see a movie about Facebook. Uh . . . no. With FIncher making it . . . definitely want to see it.
Interesting but I’m not gonna waste money to see this. I’ll wait for it to be leaked online.
for all you haters this is one of the best scripts i read since i’ve been in this town for 3 years… Sorkin is great and paired with fincher this movie is going to do great and bring home not only 500 million friends but also $500 million
“i’ve been in this town for 3 years”
this made me laugh. thanks
3 whole years?
500 Million? Did you add a zero or was that typo?
3 years?!?!
Wow, I’m impressed.
sorry, but this looks like a big snorefest…
I hope the movie is more coherent than this trailer. So many voices and characters, yet no point made. Or, was that the point?
Was that brilliant meta-humor? ‘Cause this is about Facebook!
Go back to Friendster and leave the thinking to the rest of us.
will there still be facebook by the time this comes out? …or is released on dvd, if they still have dvd?
What possible difference would that make? If Facebook disappeared off the face of the earth tomorrow, this movie would still tell a good story. You don’t see anyone complaining about World War II movies just because World War II is over.
Your a moron if you think facebook is going anywhere.
people typing. now THAT’S exciting drama.
So is it, like, an edgy “You’ve Got Mail?”
Haha, that was very funny.
This trailer looks a little more intriguing than the first one, but I still think they’re doing the film a big disservice by not prominently featuring Aaron Sorkin & David Fincher’s names.
@Confused The point is that Zuckerberg stole the idea of Facebook from someone to make money and get popular. He then shut Eduardo out of the website, and Eduardo is now trying to gain back the credit and money he deserves.
@AM “Deserves”? Give me a break. Nothing was stopping Eduardo from making the best site he could. Ideas are a dime a dozen. I have a million ideas. You only “deserve” to reap the rewards if you transform an idea into reality. And only then, if it succeeds. Most innovation is simply improving on a previous person’s idea. Anyone who sues another person over an idea is a greedy self-entitled abuser of the justice system.
I don’t know how anyone can watch the trailer and not think that this seems very dramatic and very cool. For those dissing it as “just people typing” I don’t have anything to say except I won’t get in your way at the line to the next Transformers movie.
I love that line of attack.
“You don’t like (insert fave fanboy director) then go back to watching (insert most recent Michael Bay film).”
Very imaginative.
Wow Fan. You’ve been in this town for THREE years?! That lengthy track record gives your opinion on Aaron Sorkin a lot of weight and importance!
You pessimists wanna make me gag.
Seriously. I think they believe they’re going to receive points for the most snarky/idiotic statement they can make. David Fincher is a gifted director and Aaron Sorkin a talented writer (and his script for this is top notch). But all anyone can do is make fun of Facebook. Plus, I love that people on here can’t grasp the idea of a teaser trailer.
Can you grasp the idea that the teaser is f-ing awful. Because it is.
Isn’t this just an expensive movie-of-the-week?
yes, in concept it sounds like an hbo mini-series.
OMG! My eyes just glazed over. I wouldn’t even rent it on Netflix.
No hating, but why, why oh why is Columbia pairing such an awesome screenplay/writer/director with such a god awful publicity campaign. It’s not exactly a secret how the story plays out, why sacrifice so much not to reveal any of it?
Oh God, another pointless Social Network audio trailer. Now with pictures. Whats next? Are they gonna paint cartoons of the actors with their actual voices?
I think they are probably trying to create some sort of internet buzz. Like the one when Cloverfiled trailers hit the Net. Well – they choose the wrong subject. Every time they show those audio trailers with conspiracy-worrying voices i burst into laugh. Oh you poor little millionaires. Oh, you created a site and then went to court to figure out who own the rights and money… Oh, i feel so sorry for you. This guy got 500 millions and that poor gay has only 200 millions. Oh, i’m gonna cry…
Was someone murdered? Some girlfriend cheat? Was there global conspiracy that will expose huge politician? Superman was involved with saving everyone at the end? Or was there some virus that killed everyone? Because those voices sounds so disturbed. That Trailer For Every Award Winning Picture comes to my mind when i watch this audio trailer
Oh God, another pointless pessimistic post about The Social Network. This time with emoticons.
It’s almost as if Fincher and Sorkin had a coin flip to see who’s work would be featured in the ad campaing, and Fincher lost.
How do you employ one of the top 5 directors working today… and then build an ad campaign that shows NONE of his work?
All thoughts about the movie aside (those thoughts mainly being – I love Fincher and Sorkin, but the subject matter seems dull and the drama petty) this marketing campaign is the worst I can remember.
Fincher exerts more advertising control than most directors. These trailers did not go out without his complete blessing and were more likely cut under his direction.
I’ve seen 2 trailers so far and haven’t seen any acting. Wondering if the acting sucks…
Trailer reminds me how uncool Facebook really is…
Seriously? Have some of you never heard of a teaser? It’s an inventive and creative piece that very cleverly uses Facebook IM’ing as it’s device to tease the story and the stakes. When the Trailer is released, it will no doubt show feature footage. And I can assure you that with this pedigree we won’t have to worry about the quality of the acting, directing, or writing. They will all be high caliber.
Facebook is so over… so last year.
I think it looks pretty good, actually.
It’s called a TEASER trailer for those that don’t get it. The movie comes out in October – there will be a proper trailer or two to please you industry professionals as we get closer to the release date.
I don’t understand why some people insist on behaving like children when it comes to this film. I don’t know why these same children seem to think that this film is some type of advertisement re: facebook, when they know by now that it isn’t. It’s almost as if they feel this childish cumpulsion to attack this film with points they know have already been disproven.
Here are some examples of this idiotic logic:
1. Will facebook even exist when this movie is released? Not that it even really matters (after all, did ALL’S QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT come out during World War I? did the Mafia still exist in any significant way when GOODFELLAS came out? Did that disqualify either film from being good? Did they make the release of either story any less important to tell?), as the film isn’t about promoting facebook at all but the story of its founding, but the idea that somehow facebook will cease to exist (or even significantly decline in popularity) in the next three months is beyond stupid. If you honestly think this will happen, and is a reason this film shouldn’t be made, then there is a special bus with your name on it.
2. This project is somehow beneath Fincher and the people involved. It’s funny that Fincher did this movie and even reduced his asking price, that’s how much he believes in it. Maybe there is more to this story that Fincher wants to be part of. Despite this his has felt no need to explain himself to the jury on the internets. It’s even funnier that Fincher couldn’t care less how many serial killer movies some of you want to see he’s going to make the movies HE WANTS TO MAKE. Imagine that, Fincher makes his own decisions – peanut gallery be damned.
You see some people may find it interesting to discover just how this social networking tool (facebook) was created. Everyone who read the script to the project thought it was amazing enough to want to be part of it.
However, some of you just have this inherent need to behave like little children about this, I suppose because you want another serial killer movie and Fincher probably feels that genre has been played out.
In the end, it’s just a movie. A movie about facebook. It might be good. It might be bad. It’s still just a movie.
I’ve read the script and it’s excellent. I’ve watched other David Fincher films and I know them to be excellent. This to me is the basis of judging whether a film will be good when one has no other information to go on. For some of you I feel pity because you’re so committed to this stupid blind criticism that you’ll probably make yourself hate the movie, even if it’s good. So you guys enjoy yourselves with that.
can you please point me to this bus you speak of, i’m ready.
