Fool me once…

After the steaming pile that was the Village, I told my friends that i felt like i had the word “Sucker” on my forehead and vowed never to pay to sit through another one of M Night’s films again. Fool me once…Any crap can look decent in a trailer. Even his.

This thing is going to have to earn a Gazillion % on the Rotten Tomatometer before I fall for an M. Night Shyamalan movie again.

“A New Nightmare from the mind of M Night Shyamalan”

Any of you see THE LIFT? Here the elevator isn’t the devil/evil, just someone in it – really original!

Very well cut trailer but there is no way M. is getting any more of my hard earned cash.
Am I the only Shyamalan fan out there? I absolutely loved Unbreakable and Signs, and I enjoyed Sixth Sense and The Village. Lady in the Water was a bust, but he’s still made 4 good-to-great movies: that’s more than I can say about most directors.
I’m all in for “Devil.” Looks good to me.

Yep.. I’m with you, Bill, mostly.
I thought “The Village” was an extremely thought-provoking movie and his best work.
Unbreakable is #2.
Signs at #3.
The sixth sense would be at #4, even though the drony sheeple have turned it into his magnum opus.
The Happening was lame and haven’t seen Lady or Airbender. But this certainly looks interesting enough.
I think all the people bashing him here are the same people who were told what a great movie “The Sixth Sense” was so they started loving it. Then they were told that his movies were no good, so they hate him. Give them Toy Story 32 and they’ll gobble it up.
The Sixth Sense was a fantastic film. I was suckered into Unbreakable and Signs on the strength of that. But everything M. Night has done since that first film has been utter crap. I am sure the only 30 seconds of Devil worth watching are in the trailer.

That’s actually what worries me more than Shyamalan. Shyamalan can come up with a good idea, but he’s gotten weak at the execution. Here he just came up with the idea, so, great. Problem is, looks like the good idea has been turned into your typical smash-cut, shock-CGI-image contemporary horror flick. The mood and sense of wonder isn’t there, just claustrophobia and cheap thrills.

Yeah, this doesn’t look good at all. Trapped in an elevator with the Devil? Sounds like a parody. Remember when Jimmy Fallon did those “Lost” sketches where people were trapped on an NBC elevator then in an office? This reminds me of that.
I was a Shymalan fan once. But the guy’s lost all his credibility after what amounts to a series of failures. There are a number of good projects out there struggling to get greenlit and yet, these half-baked Night ideas somehow get financing. I suppose that wouldn’t sting so bad because all kinds of crap gets “‘lit” but the ego-driven “M. Night” branding is tough not to snicker at right now. Some humility would be nice at this point: the guy has made more bad movies than good ones now. And he’s been such a jerk about genuine, widespread criticism that it’s hard to root for a comeback.
I’m not a hater. I just don’t want to waste my time and money anymore.

Investors must be sprawling with anger at M’s quote right about now. Please, after 4 failing films, he is still expected to be making over $10 million a pic? You know my chinese uncle…”Fat Chance” on his next big “blockbuster.”

“Drag Me to Hell” and now “Devil”? Doesn’t exactly scream, “Hey, Red States, Bible belt, come see my movie”. Anyway, good to see a less is more approach from M. Night.
You idiot I hope you didn’t think he did Drag me to Hell and if you did then you seriously need to recheck that. That was a Sam Raimi Film thank you very much.

here we go – Night finally found where he belongs – not behind the typewriter or the camera, just whispering story ideas to people with actual talent & vision.
it may still suck, but I’m willing to find out in the theater. Even tho Airbender had me on suicide watch.

Great trailer, blah title. Actually looks like a good movie.
Shyamalan had one good movie in him — and that’s sad. I think when Sixth Sense made such a hit, he just decided everything he would ever do would be flawless, so there is no effort to push the envelope — OR our buttons. He has good ideas — this could be a kickbutt film — but that’s where he stops. It’s a good idea for a film — if someone else, who has less ego and more talent, would make it.
Even with his past failures, this trailer actually made me want to see the movie. It evoked suspense, horror and fear in a 2 minutes span. Not a bad way to sell a movie.

Hey, didn’t look to bad and the only people who thought Lady in the Water was bad were people who actually didn’t understand the background of the movie. Now does this looks like something I would see in the theater? No. But I wouldn’t knock it before trying it. If you really do not understand his meanings for his movies then you really shouldn’t be watching them.

Honestly, I can’t wait. I’m a big M. Night fan (yeah, yeah, hoot it up), and this was the only good trailer, besides Tron Legacy, I saw before Inception. M. Night is a clever man with quite an imagination, but his hand as a director has gotten shaky as of late. That’s why the prospect of other people working with his idea is appealing to me.
Remember The Empire Strikes Back? Same circumstances. I know I’ll be there when it opens this September.

I have been swearing never to see this guy’s movie the past few times, ever since he started sucking after The Signs. This seems to have potential however. So I give him one last chance to redeem himself. But this is his last chance… this time I mean it!

You guys can talk all you want. Night is worth $50 Million USD. I’ve never seen a money tree, but that don’t mean they don’t exist. You say he makes bad movies, but someone is watching them and paying his bills. I wish I made “shitty movies” and had $50 mil in the bank!
I agree, someone do need to proof his stories before they are committed to film. But you cannot say his films are carbon copies of the usual Hollywood crap. Night, Cameron and Pixar create original films, no one else does.
Name TEN truly original films made in the last TWO years. It is not possible because current actors can’t act, and most stories are remakes of old films. Even Spielberg seem to have lost his magic.
