Roland Joffe is back the volatile political terrain he covered in films like The Mission and The Killing Fields. It’s There Be Dragons. Producer Ignacio Sancha said the film takes place during the Spanish Civil War. A journalist who looks back on the volatile conflict uncovers his father’s violent role. Joffe helped finance the film, and he and Sancha (who used his banking background) raised the funding to cover the budget, as well as P&A for a spring 2011 release. They are in talks with distributors right now.
New ‘Man Of Steel’ Television Spot #6

Oh, are we sweeping CAPTIVITY under the carpet?
Well, Cameron did Piranha II also.
I agree, he is so clever to go back to his earlier work
That movie would look waaaaaaay better if there were actual dragons in it.
Took the words RIGHT out of my keyboard.
It seems that there be DEMONS (inner demons, the text says, so those must be the Dragons…)
Very enlightened comments. I trust the discourse here will not falter from these lofty intellectual heights.
Russell is funny… and right!
Hey, this looks like the sequel of “The Mission”, can`t wait to see it!!!
This really looks like Roland did it again…
This film looks incredible, beautifully shot, I can’t wait to see this movie on the big screen!!
Welcome back Roland Joffe!! Give us another masterpiece-we are long overdue for your genius!
Sounds very interesting and want to know more…does the film have a site yet?
Yes, there is it’s http://www.therebedragonsfilm.com
,cheers
Roland Joffe makes deep, intelligent and passionate films and I for one can’t wait to see this one. I only wish Hollywood would wake up to the huge audience starving for movies with substance and beauty and, most of all, story. They’re a lost art.
This looks like such a beautiful film, filled with emotion and richness and intellect. I can’t wait to see it in the theaters. We need to see more of this on the big screen!
Absolutely guarantee this flops. I’ll eat my hat if I’m wrong but this looks like a horrific yawn fest. Is anyone under 45 gonna go see this?! Not in the US they aren’t!!
Wowww, I can´t wait to watch it!!!!
Looks great. The topic is quite interesting. Eaiting for the coming back of Great Joffe!
This looks like it could be a great film. It is nice to see a subject matter covered that gets short shrift in the US elementary educational system.
If this does well, maybe we will see more films based in these interesting nooks of history.
Trailer is a little on the nose, no? Won’t play in the U.S. Worst title since Shawshank. Still, ‘Imagine’ playing at the end of the Killing Fields is one of my best film memories, so I’ll buy a ticket.
Roland is a total money hoar. Just look at what he’s been doing for the past 10 years — this looks like a bad AFM trailer. Wes Bently? That’s the best Roland could drum up? Coming soon to a pretentious DVD store near you.
I bet Roland (since we’re being so familiar here) probably knows the correct spelling of whore.
Roland Joffe developed a reputation as a real pain in the ass, which is why he wasn’t able to get any movies of the scale and quality of The Mission and The Killing Fields made in the past 10 years (actually more like 20 years). Nobody wanted to take a chance on him, or better yet, wanted to deal with him. I’m sure he came up on a number of directors lists for quality projects over the years and was crossed off because of his reputation. As one producer I know remarked after a meeting with him for a project “The Killing Fields was 20 years ago. He might want to try being a little less arrogant.” It’s too bad, since I’ve heard stories from people who worked with him during the years he made The Killing Fields and The Mission that he was one of the most focused and intelligent directors they had ever worked with.
This looks wonderful!!! I will certainly go. Charlie Cox looks sooooooo hot as a priest!!!!!!!!!
Dragons may be a fine and beautiful film….but Roland ain’t the story here.
“Opus Dei” is.
FOLLOW the money.
Welcome to Hollywood Jose Gomez !
Ravishing trailer. I think Joffe is a great artist who dares to take risks. I very much look forward to watching this movie
Visually this looks great and like Roland is back in peak form.
However, as a trailer this is far from “hot”. What were the marketing team thinking with that awful written and performed voice-over?! It’s like it fell out of a wormhole from 20yrs ago. After so many trailer mash-ups etc. the words “He was a man who…” and “In a world of…” should be permanently outlawed unless its supposed to be a comedy.
There Be Dragons, starring five time Academy Award winner, Kirk Lazarus.
Very much looking forward to seeing this. The Mission was one of my favorite films…
There be dragons is a reference to unknown territory that used to appear on old maps indicating the uncharted and dangerous areas that were there. Its a great title and looks like a great movie. Can’t wait to see it.
THERE BE DRAGONS LOOKS UNIQUE, INTELLIGENT, AND CREATIVE.
WHAT A REFRESHING CHANGE. CONGRATS.
