EXCLUSIVE: After an extensive search, I hear Jonathan Sadowski has landed the young lead opposite William Shatner in CBS’ upcoming comedy series $#*! My Dad Says. The project, based on the popular Twitter feed by Justin Halpern, stars Shatner as Ed Goodson, a forthright and opinionated dad who relishes expressing his unsolicited and often wildly politically incorrect observations to his son Henry (Sadowski), a struggling writer-turned-unpaid blogger. Sadowski replaces Ryan Devlin, who played the role in the pilot. The network opted to recast the role when it picked the pilot to series in May. Co-starring on the Warner Bros. TV-produced series, executive produced by David Kohan and Max Mutchnick, are Will Sasso as Henry’s brother the meek half of his husband/wife real estate duo with domineering Kathleen (Nicole Sullivan). Sadowski, repped by WME and manager Susan Yoo, most recently starred on the NBC/WBTV comedy pilot Our Show. The pilot’s other star, Nate Corddry, just landed a big lead on another upcoming series that had been recast, NBC’s Harry’s Law. $#*! My Dad Says is not doing a panel at Comic-Con but Shatner will sign autographs at the Warner Bros. booth on Friday.

Genius. He’ll be great in this!
Oh man, this kid is going to get eaten alive. No sitcom experience? What was CBS thinking??
Umm hate to break it to you. Jonathan was a regular on a couple mulitcam sitcom pilots.
I saw the original pilot and it was great. This recasting is a bit baffling.
The pilot was god awful.
What advertisers will endorse a show with an expletive in the title?
Very happy with this unexpected choice. Confident Sadowski’s going to surprise people in a really good way.
He’s perfect for this. Been in a lot of stuff, but never been used correctly. Great choice!
He is and will be BRILLIANT in this role. You can quote me at the 100th episode party.
Great actor. Loved him in “The Goods”. Should be a hit
did any of you actually watch this pilot? it was horrendous, quite possibly the worst pilot of the season. Near unwatchable and this kid cant save it
Obviously Dezzy must play a Mean Pinball…The pilot was really funny and ryan was good…
mean = truth. I admit I loved the pilot as it was written but on screen it was a chore to get through 23 minutes. shatner is miscast and the entire feel of it was off
I totally agree Dezzy. Funny script but painful pilot. I’ll be interested to see how the reshoot goes.
The pilot was actually funny as bleep. The only thing wonky about it was Ryan Devlin. He was surrounded by spot-on situational comedy but he unfortunately fell flat. The audience at the taping roared with laughter every time Shatner delivered his jokes but when Devlin tried to keep up, the bleep hit the fan. Sadowski is fresh, funny and I hear he killed in the reading CBS staged. I’m thinking hit show.
JS has the energy this show (sorely) needs. Hopefully the next eps. will be funnier than the pilot – and J. will help with that.
Sadowski is the BEST! Knock em dead!
Excellent, excellent choice. He and Shatner will rock.
Sadowski is a fantastic choice for this replacement..his agent Brian DePersia at WME has been hustling for him for years, glad to see it pay off. Congrats to both of them….
Guys, this show and its brand of strained comedy is just fatally flawed. Unfunny as hell. William Shatner as Denny Crane = brilliant. William Shatner doing early 90′s laughtrack situational comedy = wooden, uncomfortable, terrible terrible disaster. There wasn’t a laugh to be had in the original shot pilot and as fantastic as Jonathan Sadowski is he can’t turn this swine into a pearl. Such a shame for everyone involved. Had this show been developed for a smart audience it could’ve been great.
“There wasn’t a laugh to be had in the original shot pilot” … I was at the taping and the audience roared for 4 long hours, coupled with a standing ovation at the end. What pilot did you see?
ditto. i don’t understand why everyone thinks current shows have laugh tracks. they don’t. except “how i met your mother” and those laughs come from people watching the taped show.
hmm I like that they are taking a risk and casting someone most people are unfamiliar with. I agree he hasn’t been used correctly in some stuff but I really was a fan of him in two dollar beer. I have a feeling he will do very well
Did they recast Shatner? Love him but he’s hamming it up more than usual in the pilot (if that’s possible.)
There’s no risk. Shatner’s a name and he’ll draw people to the show at first. If this kid is good, then he’ll be fine.
Audiences like to discover their own stars. Who was a big name at the beginning of Friends, Raymond, Seinfeld, Cheers, or Big Bang? Meanwhile shortlived shows like Center of the Universe and Back to You were packed with names and failed.
He is a not very good actor with a lackluster work ethic. The show looks like a loser to me.
If there is one thing Jonathan Sadowski can do, its deliver a quick, witty comeback with a straight face – he and Shatner will create magic going back & forth! Plus he’s just dreamy.. its like he’s doing “Blue Steel” 24 hours a day.. MAGNETIC this guy!
Samm Levine would have been perfect for the recast role. He has the experience and don’t forget his fab impression of Shatner in Freaks & Geeks.
Guy looks like a fat Tobey Maguire
No, you’re so wrong. Actually, he looks like Jude Law. Only hotter.
Sound like a cool show but it’s not “The Dick Colorado Experiment,” a show about a struggling creative writer currently living with his parents in a seniors community… he has a lofty escape plan that one would think is almost impossible even for a Hollywood insider. Reality laced with comedic irony, drama and good old fashioned American determination… Perhaps desperate times call for desperate delusional measures. Peter Listo is one of a kind.
Seems like Ryan Devlin is doing pretty well, he’s on Cougar Town and Grey’s Anatomy and he just landed a highly coveted role on Brothers and Sisters. CBS’ loss is ABC’s gain apparently.
