Big news for Chuck fans. The show’s creators/executive producers Josh Schwartz and Chris Fedak announced at Comic-Con today that sci-fi icon Linda Hamilton of Terminator franchise fame will join the cast of the NBC series in a heavily recurring rose in Season 4. She’s playing Mary Bartowski, the long-missing mother of Chuck (Zachary Levi) and Ellie (Sarah Lancaster). The identity of Mary, who disappeared from her children’s lives when they were still young, has been one of the biggest mysteries on Chuck. (Chuck’s dad has been played by another sci-fi vet, Scott Bakula.)
From the official announcement: “Hamilton will appear throughout the season, leading Chuck to discover that her life was shrouded in secrets. She was a spy, a CIA agent … and that’s just the beginning. Who is she today? One thing is certain: She’s not the soccer mom who left her children so many years ago.” Season 4 of Chuck premieres Monday, September 20th.

Love Linda Hamilton!
good to have her back on tv.
COOL!
Now was it that she was content living off of her divorce settlement or that no one wanted to hire her? I always liked her but it seemed like she just went away for many years only to pop up here and there on occasion but nothing worthy of mention.
Glad to see her in something more high profile
Well, maybe the money from the divorce just meant that she could afford to pick and choose what she wanted to do, for whatever reasons, irrespective of it’s profile level.
I think she’s also had some health issues as well. I’m not sure but seem to have that idea in the back of my head.
She had self-admitted mental issues that she’s been dealing with for years. I guess she’s got things under control. I wondered what ‘name’ they would get for the mother, but I was thinking Sela Ward or Stephanie Powers.
Linda has been working constantly. She has made several movies that were not “Hollywood Box Office” but were filmed in Europe. You should check out “In Your Dreams” which is hilarious! She just had the luxury of doing roles she truly wanted to do not so much for the money but because she thought they would be fun. She really enjoys doing comedic roles and is quite good in them. If you should ever be lucky enough to meet her, you will discover what a truly warm, sweet and totally down-to-earth person she is. No pretense about her at all and she loves to meet and talk with her fans. She has another movie called “Refuge” that is being shopped around for a distributor. It was filmed last year in Arizona. She is also set to appear in two episodes of Weeds.
An additional subplot was owed to the eagerly awaiting fans of Chuck. I will be anticipating mystery and intrigue from the onset of this new character.
One of the greatest female action stars (though regretfully that’s a pretty small pool.)
By ‘Beef Up’ do you mean steroids? I will say that… I seriously think next season might be it’s last. Anyone here seen the low budget effects? I saw two episodes and they cut a huge chuck… I mean huge chunk of the budget.
I’ve always thought the effects fit in perfectly with the tone of the show.
Hmmm. Might have to start watching again.
So she’s doing this and Weeds too? Busy gal–glad to see it!
I really like her so much
She is going to rock!
Nice photo. I’m glad botox agrees with her.
Please don’t get me wrong — I am a big fan of Linda Hamilton. But, I think your comment is off the mark.
If you compare the publicity photo shown above with one of the candid shots from Comic-Con, I think you’ll see that Linda is letting her 53 years show. The photo above is simply a collaboration of “glamor” make-up, hair, lighting, lens and retouching, like most publicity shots.
And, with all of the pressure on actresses to resort of surgery and things like botox, Linda should be congratulated for being Linda.
hmmm
seems interesting
thinking to starting watching it again
New Hollywood Movie
Linda Hamilton and Scott Bakula should prove a pair with the right chemistry to advance and improve the storyline.
oh so she’s playing Lena Olin on Alias?
Linda Hamilton is back at work? If James Cameron provide did not provide her with substantial divorce settlement, then there may be a way to re-open the divorce case and get at least a percentage of the billions from Avatar.
Incidentally, Linda looks totally different now, and I mean different, from the Linda Hamilton from the Terminator movies. What effected the change?
20 years ago (or 26 years if you go back to the original Terminator), we all looked different.
Villedeville,
It’s been nearly 20 years since T2 (1991) for starters. And, Linda faced a number of tough personal challenges, many in the public eye, since then. Having a child with, living with, and then divorcing Jim Cameron are just three of them.
p.s. Have you seen any recent photos of Mr. Cameron’s current leading lady? (Based on before and after pictures alone, I would conclude that being married to The King of the World can lead to pre-mature aging.)
I believe she can do a good job since she is very talented and hardworking.
She was raising her children, who are now both college age. Family took a front row seat in her life. That’s not a bad thing. And she has been working: theatre (see Berkshire Theatre Festival) and smaller independent films that take less time and leave more for family life.
That’s an interesting choice. I can’t remember seeing her in anything for a long time. Love Chuck, so hopefully it will add to the storyline.
