Normally, Deadline doesn’t cover the personal lives of Hollywood types, except under circumstances which affect their professional lives. But the Lindsay Lohan saga is worth mentioning because it gets sadder and sadder since she was a once-promising young actress. Lohan was sentenced today by a judge in Beverly Hills to 90 days in jail. (She violated a probation requirement after neglecting to attend alcohol education classes from a 2007 offense.) Lohan seemed headed for such big things after Mean Girls, and once had a quote of $7.5 million for Georgia Rule. Morgan Creek’s James Robinson, after paying her that big salary, had a right to publicly berate her for being unreliable and more interested in partying than showing up for work on the film, which bombed. Now it’s gotten to the point where Lohan’s ankle alcohol monitor is a fashion accessory. Lohan is only 24, so there’s still time for her to take sobriety and acting seriously.

It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside! This idiot walking around thinking she is better than everyone around her. Welcome to reality biatch! Now grow up, because you are hitting rock bottom!
EASE UP you guys! Man if someone had had a camera on me 24/7 – between the ages of 19 and 24 like this girl has had … I would be dead by now from the pressure and stress.
We have all telescoped and exaggerated the degree to what this person is supposedly guilty. She can leave her house and say something to a photographer to get out of the way and the photographer can say she is tipsy or she is angry or she is overweight or she is no longer a box office draw. I mean it is disgusting the judging that this person has endured.
Put her in jail????! My god what a sick society that needs to take vengeance on someone young whom we supported in her movie but now we just want to sit back and watch her flogged. We are no better than the Hunchback of Notre Dame crowd that needs to have crowd justice.
She has done NOTHING! She has a job as an actress (even though we go back and forth in giving her applause and then tearing her down) to HAVE TO SHOW UP AT FUNCTIONS where everyone is drinking and enjoying themselves. It does not mean she is guilty of anything. You can be sure she is photographed before she looks like she is near a line of substance and you can be sure that she is photographed with a drink in her hand but my God … to what degree does this judge know anything about what irresponsible or blatant acts of drug or alcohol usage that this girl has exhibited. MOST of it is chronicled and exaggerated in the PRESS!
The media has eaten up this person’s career chances by constantly judging her. Lo and behold she just lost a job because the financial backers were frightened from the PRESS coverage of her! Not from actually even knowing what her manner would be on set! It is disgusting if a judge in this city … that has SO MANY FINANCIAL PROBLEMS AND SO MANY REAL CRIMINALS —- it is disgusting that our city deems it necessary to spend the money to put this dog and pony show on. So the judge can look powerful and like she is some high moral majority. It is disgusting that our city has made so much of this when the courtrooms are closed as it is and there are thousands of convicts awaiting the chance to get into a courtroom! What an indulgent justice system we have in this town. The prosecuting attorneys and the whole lawyer system just wants to feed itself off of the celebrity that arresting an actor or actress brings to them. How financially irresponsible and how sick that we stand back and lash out even more irresponsible judgments onto this person. We do not know anything about her! We do not know anything about how hard she would work on a set. We are consumed with looking at her and WE ARE NOW DICTATING WHAT HAPPENS TO HER because she lost her acting job. Now all she has IS THE FACT THAT WE WANT TO LOOK AT HER PHOTOS AND JUDGE HER AND CONDEMN HER. Even if that brings in a little income to her … it is more than her lost acting job.
We should all get lives .. buy Britney Spear’s song “Piece of Me” and actually LISTEN TO WHAT A CELEBRITY HAS TO GO THRU – especially a young female celebrity in our world today. You can be darn sure if Lindsey Lohan was a male then she would have had a whole lot more peace and calm in her life to go about her work and not be photographed every frigging second by a vulturous and greedy celebrity appetite.
You miss the point entirely. She’s going to jail (finally) because she has committed crimes and shown reckless disregard for other people’s safety. The judge is following the law, not the media frenzy. Less famous people get time for a lot less after fewer chances. The “pressure” of her life, however sad, doesn’t give her a permanent pass to do as she likes when it risks other’s lives.
Good grief …. it’s no wonder the jails are overcrowded !!! LiLo is yet another non-violent drug abuser who needs treatment. DUI is bad; but it’s not bank robbery – she’s hurt no one but herself.
People like this need to keep their jobs as society can no longer afford to support them and keep them in jail. Time for some common sense !
DUI kills a lot more people the bank robberies.
This may turn out to be the best thing that’s ever happened to her. If she truly hits rock bottom now and cleans up, she can re-claim her life if she’s actually interested in doing that.
No one forces her out in the world like she is. There are PLENTY of young people in show business who aren’t behaving like she is and navigating this world with relative sanity. She’s choosing all of this and it’s up to her to stop…or not. if she doesn’t, she probably won’t make it to 30.
I always used to chuckle at Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez when they were dating and were hounded constantly. At the Ivy. Really? That’s the only place you two can go grab a bite? Yet they bitched about the constant press. I see celebrities all over town and there are plenty of places which don’t have the paparazzi quotient that certain other places do. And any of us that live here know which is which.
You don’t wanna show up in the tabloids — skip the Chateau Marmount.
This is such a sad tale. I got no dog in this fight whatsoever, but I hope she comes clean and realizes what a waste of space she’s been for the past few years. She really was good…I think she had the chops. But, it’s been so long since she’s had a moment of credibility, that one can barely remember what that looked like.
Common sense is realizing that driving under the influence is not a harmless non-violent crime. She crashed her car. Its random luck no one else got hurt or killed. Others, no more wasted than she was (at least 3 times that she was caught; probably hundreds that she wasn’t), aren’t so lucky and leave a trail of bodies. By your standard if someone takes a gun and fires it indiscriminately into a crowd and no one manages to get hurt, they didn’t commit a crime? Drinking and driving is no difference. Society needs to take it more seriously, not less.
hey brianeclus—She’s done nothing?!! She was speeding UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF COCAINE AND ALCOHOL!!! F-A-C-T!! Kidnapped a few people and put them in danger along with others on the road. Then lied about it and tried to blame it on someone else. Nothing exaggerated about that. Just fact. I take it you don’t know anyone who has lost someone to a drunk driver. Nah…You’re right, she should be free to endanger others because as you say, we need to ‘LISTEN WHAT A CELEBRITY HAS TO GO THROUGH’. Jeeesh–you’re either Dina Lohan or her probation officer.
Amen, I was stunned when that happened and she didn’t end up in jail. Much more dangerous than most celeb freak outs.
No one in the US actually does jail time for first DUI offense (or, for that matter, the second). They lose their license for a year and have to go to meetings. For those bellowing about COCAINE, DUI (and no cocaine was recovered during her arrest) doesn’t distinguish between which substance you are found to be under the influence of.
Many of you who posted seem like sad, vindictive haters who get some measure of satisfaction at the suffering of others. She “thinks she is better than people?” The only thing that statement demonstrates is that the person who wrote it carries around an insecurity that others are better than they are–which, incidentally, Ms. Lohan probably does as well. Surely this accounts for some of the behavior you people ignorantly label as arrogance or egomania.
None of the people posting here have either the experience or the authority to make sweeping judgments about what ‘celebrities go through.’ Sorry, I know its hard but you just don’t. In fact, many of you seem entirely lacking in empathy as well.
Celebrities don’t get ‘special treatment’ under the law. The opposite is true. When a celebrity is accused of a crime (or even a minor infraction) anyone involved in an authoritative capacity immediately puckers up so as to be sure they DONT give the appearance of special treatment. It’s why Paris Hilton got thirty days in Jail when even Sherif Bacca openly said that a person who had committed her ‘crimes’ would never see a day behind bars–and tried to cut her loose until a maelstrom of outrage from people like you forced him to change his mind.
Sadly,it seems the only time any of you celebrity worshipping/hating people pay any attention to the nuances of the criminal justice system is when some actor gets tossed in the clink for drugs. The face is, you simply don’t serve time for missing alcohol classes after a DUI. Look it up. The only instance where you might is if the prosecuting attorney and the judge think they’ll take a big hit in the press if you get let off easy.
Your lives would be a lot easier if you spent more time worrying about your families or your work rather than getting on here and calling a an actress a “biatch” while opining on her life without any regard for how deeply clueless you are about it. You can tell people to DIAF all you want but it won’t make you happy, it wont make you stronger and it wont make you right.
Hi, Dinah!
LEAVE HER ALONE! You are lucky she even performed for you BASTARDS!
LEAVE LINDSAY ALONE!…
(sobbing)
Leave Lindsay Alone Please…. !
Leave Lindsay Lohan alone!…right now!….I mean it.!
Anyone that has a problem with her you deal with *me*, because she is not well right now.
LEAVE HER ALONE!
Oh Ali-ana,
One day your big sister will get out of the pokey, sign a book deal, and make the talk show circuit to tell us what she learned, all the while scamming free clothes and dragging you along to completely age inappropriate places.
I promise.
Can I just point out that all the “pressure” that these young celebrities are “supposedly” under is completely self inflicted. There are plenty of talented actors / actresses etc who don’t take drugs and break the law, and the paparazzi avoid them like the plague.
They only follow the ones who are doing the wrong thing – because we (sadly) live in a society that wants to read about scandal. People who do the right thing don’t generate much news, because society portrays them as boring.
And one other thing – it’s not 90 days. She’s serving 23 days total – in a time out room that is a lot nicer than many of the places I’ve had to live over the years.
So BOO HOO Lilo – but quite frankly, I hope you never work in the industry again – so somebody better than you can have a shot.
Brianclue: Either you are lindsay’s agent and afraid of not making any money off of her OR you are a delusional, uninformed fan. You claim she did NOTHING. That is not true. The girl DROVE HER CAR jacked up on cocaine and booze, not to mention another time did the same thing but carjacked a bunch of kids so she could go on a wild chase again jacked up on coke and booze with a former assistant. Listen to the judges summary today of her crimes and then get back to us. OR, would you only have agreed with us if one of your family was killed by lindsay while she was behind the wheel? She should have been locked up the first time for a very long time. Instead, she got out in a matter of hours. She couldn’t even realize she dodged a bullet and cleaned up her life. Instead, she continued her entitled, spoiled, ignorant drug addict attitude to the detriment of the public around her. Lock her up and throw away the key for all I care and you can join her.
This girl has been given more chances in the past few years than most average people get in a lifetime. You’re telling us to listen to a…Brittany Spears song for insight??? wtf? That’s possibly the most moronic thing I’ve ever seen typed on this site, which is saying something for all the other nut jobs who post here. Oh, waaahh, celebrities have it soo hard. What an intolerant justice system that doesn’t let them drive drunk or buy drugs with their millions of dollars. I doubt you have the same sympathy for the homeless person you blew off on your way on the way to work today. You only save it for someone who has had a life that is the envy of millions handed to her, even as she does her best to flush it down the crapper. You, brianeclus, are an idiot. Procreation for you is a bad idea.
Hey, if she doesn’t like fame, attention and tons of money for doing virtually nothing, she can always quit and seek a real job doing something productive and useful.
The greasy little drunk/druggie slut won’t be missed, or remembered, by this time next year.
You’re a fucking moron. She broke the law. She was drinking and doing drugs and did it all while operating a motor vehicle. She has put others lives in danger. Why did she do this? Because she has no regard for anyone but herself. She is not an actress. Why? Because she does not have a career. She is done and I hope they throw away the key once she’s locked up.
It’s the Lindsey Lohans of this town that give Hollywood a bad name. Forget her.
She is 24 YEARS OLD. Many people that age have either been working for six year or working for two years out of college. It’s time to GROW UP!!! She can’t use the old excuses any more – her crazy parents, etc.
She had THREE DUIs!!! Do you anyone else who has that many DUIs who still has a license or hasn’t spent time in jail??? That’s insane. She could have killed people – maybe one of your friends or relatives. How sorry would you feel for her then?
In addition, if you are on probation/parole and you know that the court and the world are watching, then don’t friggin’ go out every night to some club, staying out until four in the morning. Of course you are going to be tempted, and of course people are going to want you to fail. It’s like she’s flipping a finger at the court. Stay the hell at home and read a book.
Stop feeling sorry for this dumb-ass – the rest of us have to be responsible or pay the consequences. If she doesn’t want cameras in her face 24/7, don’t go to the Ivy, don’t go to the hottest clubs, etc.
Lohan is at the point where she needs to pull an Amanda Bynes. She needs to quit. I have no doubt in my mind that Amanda will be back acting again. Lindsay got what she deserves. You make a point about the waste of time for the justice system, since when is Lohan above the law. She operated a motor vehicle while intoxicated. She needs to be punished to the full extent of the law. She should not get off because of celebrity. She was told not to drink and she should have followed the rules regardless of what she thought about it. If I was to do this, I would lose a lot. I would not get the monitor or a stint in rehab. I would lose my job and my family. She needs to do her time and maybe she will be wiser when she is done. But what is 90 days?
whateva!! thing is…ok she has crappy parents but lots of ppl grow up with bad role models n still turn out well! i think she needs a dose of jail 2 str8n her bootie out n not use her parents as a crutch 2 self-destructive behavior. therapy seems 2 b what she needs also or she may begin cuttin again…*rolls eyes*!
She got what she deserved… Some people think they are above the law and it’s about time she got more than a slap on the hand.. glad the judge put her away. Maybe she’ll wake up and smell the coffee so to speak.
Lock her up for a year in some type of treatment and
throw away the keys – the Party is over Missy !!
She will bounce back….I’m positive.
Lindsay Lohan got what she deserved.
Maybe this will open her bloodshot eyes.
If not, then this will be the least of her troubles.
See ya Lindsay.
I hope you learn from this and get your act together.
A lot of people are rooting for you.
I’m one of them, but this is for your own good.
GEORGE VREELAND HILL
Sadly, it’s not Lohan’s alcoholism which is the problem – it’s her character. Look at her parents. Her father, especially, seems like a pretty damaged fellow. I doubt Lohan has the inner-strength to pull out of this. If your character is flawed to begin with, Hollywood can only make it worse. Very few stars can navigate these waters without imploding, maybe DiCaprio or Damon today or Newman or Redford in an earlier generation.
You gotta keep it real or you’re finished. Not easy to do in the film biz.
Her father???? He is the ONLY one coming out and saying the girl needs to go to rehab. I think if you want to point a finger, look at her mother who goes out drinking with her and god knows what else. She is an enabler. Michael Lohan may have a shady past, but the guy at least is saying she needs help. Not her agents, her managers (dear old mommy!) or her friends. Why? Because they are making a dollar off of her. Her dad is the only one, even if he loses his daughter in the long run. At least if lindsay OD’s one day, he will have the peace of mind to know he tried his best…Dina Lohan, not so much.
Celebrity justice. Is there any legal professional posting here that has ever heard of a probation violation hearing going over 90 minutes let alone all day?
And who do we blame when she OD’s before surrendering herself? Her parents? The business? Conrad Murray? Recent history has proven that we DEFINITELY won’t be blaming her…
Good. Jail helped Robert Downey Jr. hopefully it will scare her straight as well.
So how much time will she actually serve? I’m guessing under twelve hours.
So… that’s Paris, Nicole, Lindsay… hmmm… who else needs the slammer to really start taking life seriously? Anyone seeking Amy?
But really, Lindsay needed this. Somehow I think 3 months (read: 1.5 in celeb-reality) will mature her, if even just a little bit.
OOH! I can’t wait to see who Jimmy Kimmel rips off to make fun of this!
It’s hard to have a lot of sympathy for her, but for people outside of LA in particular, it should be mentioned that this sentence for her (three separate 30 days sentences to be served consecutively) seems far more than the average defendant would have been given.
Like in the Paris Hilton case (and although far different and more serious issues, the Polanski situation), being a celebrity hurts, rather than helps her at this point. LA County judges seem to sometimes treat celebs more harshly both to make an example and do the popular thing, and send a message (and yes, there are other ways celebs have advantages)
And in most other people’s cases, for a non-violent crime with the amount of overcrowding in our jails, she likely would serve a few days and be sent home. But it is likely she will be treated more severely than others.
Again, the blame is primarily hers. She clearly was not expecting anything like this today. It did seem like the judge – who again may be justified – had it in for her today (why not treat her harshly after returning from Cannes, but rather give her several weeks before going over the whole case? That seems a bit cruel).
Meantime, I hope she has someone in her life watching her carefully for the next couple weeks. This could really be a high-risk period for her.
Point taken, but consider this: Neither Paris nor LiLo were actually sent to jail for drunk driving. They were both sent to jail for violating the terms of plea agreements they accepted after being let off with merely a slap on the wrist. They each felt that they were above the law because they failed to uphold their end of the deal when the courts chose to largely forgive their mistake. I think the penalties were/are likely commensurate with those “normal people” would receive for making similar decisions.
I, for one, do not drive drunk for reasons far beyond the potential of spending 90 days in jail. However, were I in a similar situation to either of the two afore mentioned young ladies, and had the opportunity to essentially wipe out that conviction by adhering to fairly lenient restrictions imposed by the court (part of mutually accepted plea deals), I’d be counting my lucky stars, not looking for ways to push the limits of the deal.
Gonna be one hell of a party when she gets out…
‘ there is still time for her to take sobriety seriously”…
I think her problems go much deeper. Drinking and drugs are the escape from issues she needs to address.
I would have suggested a good spanking, but the line would go from Hollywood to New York for that…and, it would be for all the wrong reasons.
Seriously, I hope she gets the help she needs. If Robert Downey Jr. can get his act together…so can Lindsay.
Let’s hope her time in jail is time well spent. Good luck, Lindsay.
As a recovering alcoholic, I believe that nothing can be for Lindsey until she has the willingness to stop drinking…I really hope she finds that willingness because alcoholism is a deadly disease and its hell
ps i am the same age as Lindsey
a lot of people in their 20s go out and party. We don’t know she’s an addict for sure. If you went out every night, you would probably drink every night, too, especially considering who Lindsey hangs out with.
It’s too easy to blame it on a disease. She may just have a character flaw(s) – vanity, lack of discipline, narcissism, insecurity, etc. She thinks she’s above the law, as do many celebrities. She’s also an attention whore and has admitted that she feels weird if she isn’t in the tabloids.
And to compare her to Robert Downey, etc. is a joke. He had a great body of work behind him. Lindsey has been in two Disney kid hits and Mean Girls. She has never been able to open a movie. She’s lucky to have had the career she has. It would be different if this happened to Natalie Portman, Dakota Fanning, etc. Then I’d say, what a waste.
Both her parents should be muzzled and pushed over a cliff – and her sister should be kidnapped and taken to Peoria.
There’s one thing all addicts know: If untreated, addiction always leads to jails, institutions, or death….Considering the alternatives, maybe she will learn from this….
True talent. Sad tale
No talent. True tale.
It’s all good, she’ll be clean and ready for Sundance. No strings attached.
Lo Lo we still love you.
Eh. It all makes for a more compelling comeback story. Ask Robert Downey Jr.
She may have made a few cute movies, but she ain’t no Robert Downey Jr. That guy was worth saving.
This is may be the real wakeup call she needs. She does have real talent and it’s always a shame when someone’s addictions get in the way of their gifts.
All I have to say is GOOD RIDANCE. I have had MANY people I know and MYSELF work with her/have to DEAL with her and she is an AWFUL person. Putting people down any chance she can get (especially females!), being difficult to deal with on set, and not caring about anyone but herself, her drugs, and her entourage. I think she deserved 90 years over 90 days for just being a bad person…
But how much time will she SERVE?
Probably less than one hour.
Hi,
What might give a smidgeon of hope is to ask how long the likes of Robert Downey Jr. and Mickey Rourke once looked like complete lost causes!
There’s still a lot of people who believe in her potential.
Kind regards,
Shakir Razak
Difference is, those men have real, unique talent. Lindsay is a dime a dozen. Seriously. There are far better actresses out there with more talent that deserve the chances she gets.
She is not interested in taking sobriety seriously… She still goes out to the usual places with the usual people. I saw her out last Monday night wearing that awful blonde dye job.
I would like to pitch the following: she marries Mac Culkin in a wonderful stage marriage, and together they win multiple oscars as a writing team.
Could be the best thing that ever happened to her. Maybe she will win an oscar in 3 years. Or at least a big comic book movie. Iron Woman?
Lohan’s father is a piece of work. Her family first and foremost failed her (and her sister) by making them money-earners instead of kids to be taken care of. With far too much drama and abuse and the rest.
It has not been helped by the failure of the people around her to take her under their wing instead of use her for money/fame purposes. The same folks around Michael Jackson.
Let’s just hope this is like Robert Downey Jr. going to jail and getting sober/scared. I like LL — I’d like to see her make decent movies, live a decent, healthy and happy life, and be fun for everyone instead of the current downward spiral.
But sad to say, the only one who can make that happen — is Lindsay Lohan.
wow, whiskey, we finally agree on something! your post here is spot on.
The best part is she will have to do a 90 day rehab as well. Hopefully her family of leeches will stay away and she will get her crap together.
Time to get that drunk off the streets. Time for Hollywood to stop giving her what she wants…all this attention.
