EXCLUSIVE: Paramount, which is already making the JJ Abrams-directed Steven Spielberg-produced Super 8, has acquired a spec package for another modestly budgeted extraterrestrial project. This one’s about alien abduction and the plan is to bring it in for about $12 million. And this one has as its producer Michael Bay, who’s currently shooting Transformers 3 for the studio. The deal was made on the basis of a two-minute teaser and a pitch. It will be directed by Bobby Glickert, and produced by Bay and his Platinum Dunes partners Brad Fuller and Andrew Form. They are out to writers to draft Glickert’s story. It’s being called the “Confidential Alien Project”, and it’s said to have things in common with Cloverfield and Paranormal Activity, both of which were shot on the cheap and released by Paramount. WME made the deal.
Glickert gets his first shot behind the camera on a feature after directing two horror shorts, Road to Moloch and The Descendent. He was a PA on Bay’s first Transformers film, and has been assistant to director Fast & Furious the past year and a half. He’s managed by Tariq Merhab.

So how will this be different than Oren Peli’s own “Area 51″ and JJ’s “Super 8″?
It sounds like both movies.
My Confidential Michael Bay Alien Project is a cross between Transformers and Armageddon with a little Paranormal Cloverfield tossed in for good measure. Bay will play himself he falls in love with a hot alien porn star who will be played by Snooki. It’s really a rom-com Michael can be very charming when he wants to be everyone who knows him thinks he’s another Josh Duhamel. And who wouldn’t want to date Josh Duhamel. Since my movie takes place in another galaxy it might be more expensive than Super 8 but with Bay in the lead it’s money well spent. Plus you can’t go wrong with Snooki did you read that New York Times Style piece on her? The girl’s got it in spades.
Elements of Cloverfield and Paranormal Activity…
Only common thread, both sucked.
Congrats to Bobby! He’s one of the good ones and a hell of a talented guy.
Congratulations Tariq to you and your client! I trust your judgment – you’ll do well my friend!
I happened to catch Road to Moloch last night at AOF in Pasadena. It was excellent. I’m looking forward to Mr. Glickert’s feature debut.
No mention of Peli’s “Area 51″?
Weak, Mike. Very weak.
How is it that Tariq is 22 and is independent???
What a talentless, uninspired schmuck. I watched Bobby Glickert’s two shorts and I can’t believe this guy is getting a feature gig off those. Paramount better surround him with a talented crew that will direct this thing for him or they’ll get a movie that will save them more money letting the bottom of a dumpster see it before any audiences.
I thoroughly enjoyed both of Bobby’s shorts and strongly feel he will deliver well for Paramount. What’s the old saying, he’s “got chops”. I know Bobby in person too, he is a great personality. How fantastic they are giving this young filmmaker a chance to show everyone what he can do! Go Bobby! ~Sarah
