Is Wentworth Miller a writer trapped inside the body of an actor, plotting an escape? Miller, best known for starring in the Fox series Prison Break, now has two scripts in play, each of which he wrote under the pseudonym Ted Foulke. Foulke’s Stoker, which has Carey Mulligan and Jodie Foster attached, has gotten some ink. It’s the story of an eccentric teen whose enigmatic and estranged uncle who returns to the family after the death of the girl’s father. Foulke (Miller) has also written Uncle Charlie, a prequel to Stoker that explores another chapter in the history of an unusual family that has a knack for burying secrets, as well as bodies. Fox Searchlight is in talks to acquire both scripts, but I’m told they aren’t the only ones circling. The projects, being shopped by Foulke’s ICM reps, will likely land in the same place, since there are overlapping characters. The agency isn’t confirming that Foulke is Miller, but guess which agency reps the actor? Miller, who just wrapped Resident Evil: Afterlife, apparently wants to lead a double life as an actor and scribe.

Sounds awfully close to Hitchcock’s 1943 “SHADOW OF A DOUBT.” JOSEPH COTTON EVEN PLAYED THE HEAVY “UNCLE CHARLIE.”
it sounds too much like shadow of a doubt.
Can’t believe the buzz over such a narrative.
Great. Another insider who doesn’t have to worry about being the best writer
he can be…just hand it off to his agent.
MARK11 –
you need to relax. Yes, he obviously has an in with him already being in Hollywood and having an agent, but jeez, cut the guy a break. Wentworth Miller is certainly not a household name, after PRISON BREAK his career has basically stalled one way or another and if the dude wants to write, bully for him. I seriously doubt that Jodie Foster and Carrie Mulligan are attaching themselves to script just because Wentworth wrote it. I’ve read it. It’s well-done, VERY small, but well done.
VERY excited about Went’s talents being truly explored and hopefully appreciated. All Went fans know that he is an accomplished writer with many of us having read his Thesis from Princeton – SO this is NOT a surprise. He has always expressed his desire to write a Screenplay and actually started STOKER as far back as 2007 when the “treatment” took shape.
Delighted Mark that you think it is good – anyway that fans can get an idea of HOW good??
I applaud Wentworth Miller for concluding what he set out to do years ago;for never giving up and for choosing the name “TED” so that NO ONE was swayed by the Miller name – just based decisions on his talent.
Good Luck Went – you have lots of fans who love & support you but are also immensley proud!!!
This will truly explore his talents? Well, there’s certainly a chance of that. The guy is pretty, but he can’t act his way out of a paper bag. Maybe he can write.
I totally disagree with your comment on Wentworth Miller’s
acting ability. There’s something special about the
guy! He’s the # 1 reason I watched “Prison Break”. I miss it
terribly and I miss HIM.
I am just curious, do you mind sharing a copy of his thesis in college? I just admire his intelligence. Thanks!
Couldn’t agree with “dvelopment” more. Though I haven’t read the script, Wentworth isn’t exactly a household… You know what, “dvelopment” covered this already.
MARK11: Park your envy at the door or get the hell out of the business (if you’re in it). Envy and jealousy, though commonplace, will eat a writer alive!
Yeah, really… and if he was using his name for an easy “in,” why the pen name? Seriously, you’ve got an Oscar winner and an Oscar Nominee attached to his script already.
Hey Development and Indrid, let’s each pitch in $15 and buy MARK11 a hug. He could use it.
Note to all writers who complain incessantly on here:
Hollywood is dying to find great new scripts and voices. This fallacy that you have to be an insider to make it as a writer is ridiculous. Do some people get ahead via their connections or pedigree? Sure. But if you are a damn good writer, then you can make it having no connections whatsoever. If you write something good, it will be noticed and it will rise to the top of the heap. It happens again and again. Simply because the vast majority of scripts out there are that bad. But if people read your script and don’t like it, it’s not cause the system is broken. Odds are it’s because you script is. And if you can’t get anyone to read it, then you’re not really trying. Getting people to read your script isn’t hard. But being a good writer is.
Best story Miller ever wrote —
Sending letters to all of his life long friends back at home when he was cast on ‘Popular,’ informing them that unfortunately they could no longer be friends now that he was making a name for himself in Hollywood.
Truth is these scripts he’s writing are based actually based on his life.
Hot!
Michael Scofield is the best loud whisperer since Eastwood…I think this could be good.
YES! I am sooooooo happy and excited by this news. I can’t wait to see Went’s creativity in action.
So happy for Went! A smart man to have in creative control! Best of luck buddy!
Don’t sleep on Wentworth! Before becoming an actor, he got his degree in English from Princeton.
“Great. Another insider who doesn’t have to worry about being the best writer
he can be…just hand it off to his agent.”
Yep. That’s how it works. Studios– especially ones like Searchlight — buy scripts because of nepotism.
Keep telling yourself the only reason you’re not successful is because you don’t know the right people. It will keep you warm at night in your parent’s basement.
“Keep telling yourself the only reason you’re not successful is because you don’t know the right people. It will keep you warm at night in your parent’s basement.”
Just wanted to point out that I have never heard this phrase, “parent’s basement,” before! That is so clever of you. It really makes the guy you’re responding to sound pathetic. Because a basement would be a very lonely place to live, and if it was the basement of one’s parent(s), that would be doubly pathetic. It would imply that the person is unsuccessful and can’t afford a place of his own. That’s why he lives in his “parent’s basement.”
That is very, very funny, and I’ve never heard it used by anyone before. I might use that in the future, when I’m attempting to make someone feel bad about themselves. Thank you, and keep being really, really original and clever!
None of these ‘specs’ sound particularly high concept and generally writing a sequel to something that’s not even technically set up yet is a n00b writer no-no. I’d be hard-pressed to find the ‘heat’ on any of these projects. I guess ‘Stoker’ (which I thought was a horror-adventure take on Bram Stoker…much better idea…*cough*) has Jodie Foster on board. Yeah. She also just directed ‘The Beaver’. Good luck with that. And audiences don’t like her anymore. So, this news is that Wentworth Miller wrote a PREQUEL to the flick that barely has indie financing? This post is dubious. Barely a ‘breaking story’. If he wasn’t a celebrity, it probably would not have gotten mentioned.
I was surprised the dude got the Resident Evil gig. Good for him, and the forwardly-thinking producers. But we all kinda know why he hasn’t segued into a solid action-adventure feature career post-Prison Break.

Since when? I’ve always hear people highly regard her. Axe to grind,I take it?
Does the “eccentric teen” in Miller’s (aka Foulke’s) script come out of the closet & all hell breaks loose?
Talk about “burying secrets as well as bodies…”
Gosh people are bitchy on the internet. He’s a great writer, I’ve seen some high school stuff and it was fantastic, then he went on to Princeton to do more and so obviously he has the talent, he’s a clever guy. Good on you Wentworth!
That’s because everyone here is theeee best writer, soon to be famous director, etc… I mean the next best thing since sliced bread. Everyone else absolutely sucks. Oh, and they got opinions, boy.
So happy for you Wenty. You deserve this and waiting to see RE4 soon.God bless you
wentworth is smart and is a hard worker, but gosh is he a jerkoff. horrible human being. his agent joanne wiles is also a horrible human being. they deserve each other. no one can handle his high demands.
Like what? He’s got high demands like…… he’s not been in any movie since prisonbreak, so how “high” can his demands be?
I don’t get pple who come to spill things here and then leave us hanging, please explain further, thanks!
what someone should look into are the similarities of one of Wentworth’s scripts to the Screen Gems remake, Stepfather. Wentworth desperately wanted that film to star in and, when he didn’t get it, tweaked his take on Stepfather for his own movie…don’t think Clint will like that very much
Yup, whatever you do, don’t get Clint mad.
Hmmm…double life, indeed.
Oh Mikey… such a shame that all your innuendoes went unnoticed (or worse – no one cared.) And you thought you were so witty.
Went has more than acting. He is so kind, so gorgeous, so talent. He is the brightest man I have ever seen.He surely become whoever he wants, actor, writer, director…. All the best wishes to you Went. Love you.
This sounds great. Congratulations to Mr. Miller.
That’s so great news. Went will be great as a writer as he is as an actor. He’s adorable & so talented in everything.
Good luck Wenty God bless u & keep u always successful, happy, gorgeous, beloved by millions of fans who adore u & support u in anything u do
Love from ur biggest fan
Can’t believe how judgmental some people are. Let’s see what he has to offer (regarding his writing skills) before putting him down. …At least he appears to have done more than some wannabees, who only get as far as numbering the pages.
A plus for Miller.i am happy for him.
Exciting news!
I’m looking forward to hearing about developments & finally seeing the pages put onto screen.
