MTV’s reality hit Jersey Shore broke series records with its second season premiere last night, which drew 5.3 million viewers and a 5.1 rating in people 12-34. This marks the top cable telecast of the year in 12-34 and MTV’s best season premiere rating in more than seven years, since the Season Two launch of The Osbournes. The Season 2 premiere of Jersey Shore was up 292% over its series debut last year in 12-34 and up 280% in viewers. It was also up 10% from the show’s blockbuster Season 1 finale.

This is the best show ever I can belive i watch this shit
this means 5.3 million people (myself included) woke up this morning feeling just a little bit more ashamed of themselves than usual.
Now if only we could round up these 5.3 million Jersey Shore fans and grind them up into a protein-rich paste that could be processed, canned and shipped to starving nations, we could rid America of millions of morons and solve world hunger at the same time. It would be like killing two birds with one stone.
hahahaha.. that comment made my day!
Its amazing some of the rediculous and stupid comments people will say when sitting in front of a keyboard. Get a life.
why comparing only to the 1st season premiere? compare to the finale.
Dertike right.
tHEY MENTIONED IN THE ARTICLE THAT THIS YEARS PRIMER WAS UP 10% FROM LAST YEARS FINALE.
UGH!
Shame the morning ratings can’t reflect the REAL ratings–meaning all programs aired on a given night. These numbers mean it was top ten compared to “major” network programming. Is this a technical snafu or do the majors collude with the media to keep cable numbers out to prop up the perception of their own shows?
That’s like not putting Twilight on the box office charts because it isn’t from one of the major studios. Silly, right?
No they shouldn’t put twilight in the ratings because it isn’t good. You shouldn’t put jersey shore in the ratings because its the anti matter of good.
Don’t get the hate for this show. It is a simple reality show about a bunch of crazy 20 somethings who just want to party, drink, and get laid… Sounds like every normal 20 something I know.
Nothing wrong with the show. It doesn’t portray anyone negatively. You don’t lose brain cells watching it. They are funny kids.
People really need to get off their high horses.
You sound like a total bore. Enjoy shopping at walmart.
Such a bore you were compelled to respond to my non threatening post with a boring attempt at a take down.
I have never been inside a Wal-Mart in my life sweetie. They don’t have those in NYC. Maybe you should stop walking around with your nose in the air and being a pretentious snob. You might realize you can like highbrow fare AND lighthearted stupidity at the same time and it won’t kill you.
You don’t have to be a highbrow snob to realize this show is pure MTV garbage. Shows like this that appeal to the lowest common denominator are an embarrassment and the reason people around the world hate our country. The fact that you have nothing better to do with your life than watch a bunch of greasy muscle-bound imbeciles from New Jersey behaving boorishly says a lot about you.
Memo to B&C (another bozo who no doubt claims to watch only the Discovery Channel and BBC America): if the Guids offend you, don’t watch them. If enough people feel like you, they will go away. Anecdotal evidence says you’re the minority. So shut your hole and go back to Masterpiece Theater. Enjoy.
P.S. people around the world hate our country because we have what they don’t: freedom and opportunity. They may be in shorter supply than in the past, but comparatively we are light years ahead. Relocate anywhere in the Middle East, South America or China and see for yourself.
I totally agree. People get so worked up over something like this? It’s called entertainment. Lighten up! This world is full of angy haters.
It kills me that by watching we’re going to make these band of idiots rich but they do provide a lot of laughs and mindless entertainment. Let’s hope this runs for a long time before they all kill themselves!
It will be interesting to see what the cast is subjecting themselves to in four years in trying to reclaim the spotlight.
Its not mindless. They may not be Rhodes Scholars but they’re sweet. Lovable idiots laughing all the way to the bank. Sure they have short fuses and beat each other in the head but except for Angelina they’d be fun to hang out with.
It appeals to millenials because its about friends as family with working parents and people who socialize over the internet, this is filling a void in their lives.
At least it gets higher ratings than PBS and BBC News. I’m so tired of people talking about smart stuff all the time. Pickle fellating and cat fights are something we can all relate to.
Plus, they’ve inspired guidos across the tri-state area to not get jobs and workout and tan all the time in hopes of getting cast in Season 3.
You can’t put a price on inspiring people to chase their dreams…
im guilty of watching this too, not sure why we love it but i guess if you get past the pretensions and crassness of the characters, they can be pretty funny and surprisingly likeable… its a weird dynamic.
TITTIES!! keep the shows commin
It’s just too good, I can’t help myself…
Why does journalism suck these days? Because THIS is how people wish to spend their time today. Why do so many TV shows and movies suck? Because this is what the majority flocks to. Why do the likes of Palin and the Tea Baggers attract a large, passionate, dedicated following? Because THIS is the level of sophistication and intellect of so many Americans today. Why does FOX News have the highest rated “news?” See all of the above. Why do “mega-churches” and televangelists and the leaders of fadish belief systems running the gamut from religion to health care rarely fail for the lack of suckers? Because this is how little so many reliably know for themselves. Why do folks love WalMart’s “low prices” and claimed “American values,” this as the company finds new ways to shaft employees and completely surrenders its original claim of selling American-made products? Because THIS is how smart people are, and how much they really care about quality. Why do people scream about government being too big and insist “no new taxes,” this while they scream about bad roads, lousy schools and reduced services? Because they are, by and large, idiots.
Very little of what most of America “loves” has anything whatsoever to do with quality, or intelligence, or imagination, or wit, or knowledge, or taste.
Obviously, it’s not all or even partially the FAULT of “Jersey Shore.” JS is just one more in the long list of symptoms.
No, I don’t watch JS beyond the first few minutes of 1 episode I’ve seen. Yes, that IS because I AM “too good for it.” (And with Jersey Shore, that doesn’t require a lot.)
Fine with me if you can’t say the same. But I REALLY wish you’d all stop voting, and driving, and going out to public events and generally sullying the planet for those of us who ARE “too good” for Jersey Shore and their ilk. And for God’s sake, PLEASE, stop breeding!
Well said! Whenever I’m driving thru Jersey I always leave my calling card in one of the rest stops along the turnpike. They should line the urinals with pictures of Jersey Shore cast members.
too true comedymaven….
How about you just enjoy it? Why must people put down this show but if it was a sitcom it would be “acceptable”. If you don’t like this go watch 2 1/2 men which is not funny and just let the people who enjoy this… enjoy this. Yes I am i guess jealous that these guys get to party, have fun, etc and get paid to do it but I think the show is funny so whatever. I consider myself a very conservative person and I am not a crazy party person, but I enjoy it for the entertainment. Enjoy the show and stop caring so much about them! Or as “those worthless pieces of garbage trash that I am secretly jealous of because they are having fun while I am miserable with my own life” whould say , stop hating… lol
