EXCLUSIVE: Rob Lowe has joined Thomas Jane and Jeremy Piven in I Melt With You, the indie ensemble thriller that Mark Pellington will direct near Big Sur in Northern California next month. Lowe will play a doctor struggling with deep personal loss and a growing drug addiction. Pellington hatched the storyline with screenwriter Glenn Porter for a micro-budget film that focuses on the pain of the modern male psyche. Considering that Pellington got that trio and the whole film will cost less than $1 million, my question is: why do movies cost so much, again? Lowe, who is separately involved with Colony Capital’s Tom Barrack in the formation of a $500 million media fund, just made a deal with Henry Holt to write Stories I Only Tell My Friends, a memoir about acting and fatherhood.

What is going on w/ Rob Lowe’s chin?
Sounds like a movie I will want to see – I find pyschological character development fasinating.
And, of course, I am a Rob Lowe fan. that combination makes this a must see for me.
They cost so much because these “name” actors and directors demand way too much money up front.
If I had it my way, the only two actors I’d pay more than scale are Will Smith and Meryl Streep. The only directors I’d pay more than scale would be James Cameron and Christopher Nolan and maybe a couple others.
@ rebecka; Actually, one of the reasons why movies cost so much is due to the “suit” overhead. Did you ever take a look at the amount of people involved in the business side of things? They are not wearing sackcloth and driving clunkers to work either. They make nice coin. If creatives want to be paid according to what they bring to the table on a project, so be it. At least the audience gets to see what they do. No one really sees what the suits do. Why are the suits so handsomely paid then?

that teaser makes me feel like i need a prescription for cymbalta.
If this were a female-centered story, the tedious men would be squawking about chick flicks and old women. Joyless myopic creatures.
But it isn’t, and they aren’t.
lol, So true.
Did Lowe’s Media Monopoly deal fall apart? All I’ve been hearing for the last three weeks is how Rob Lowe was about to turn into a modern day Media Barron financed through foreign seed money in his own Media Company. Me thinks the media deal was all hogwash in the first place just to pimp Rob Lowe’s name.
lindoooooooooo!
