EXCLUSIVE: Screen Gems will co-finance with Spyglass and distribute The Vow, the Michael Sucsy-directed film that will star Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum. The film is based on a true story of a newly married couple whose car is rear-ended by a truck. She loses all recent memory-including that she’s married–and they struggle together to gain it back. Spyglass put together the project, and Sucsy, who directed HBO’s Grey Gardens, is rewriting. This puts Clint Culpepper’s Screen Gems back in the Channing Tatum biz, after the Sony-based shingle distributed another romantic weeper, Dear John. Spyglass’ Roger Birnbaum, Gary Barber and Jonathan Glickman are producing. Shooting starts September in Toronto.

Why does this sound so familiar? Isn’t there another project filming about a husband having to romance his wife after she loses her memory??
Not sure about a movie, but it was the plot of a House episode this season…
there is a dark comedy in post starring Dermot Mulroney, Hope Davis, Selma Blair, etc. called THE FAMILY TREE that tackles this subject matter
Wow, another gem from Spyglass. I already see this doing $10m domestically and turning up on Starz six months after its release. These are the clowns who want to run MGM? Really?
The Notebook
The premise is also reminiscent of “50 First Dates”…
Yes there is another film in development that is very similar. It has also been done before (though was not based on a true story). I’ll let you guess what the name of that film was.
It’s been around for at least 10 years. Lots of people have been attached at one time or another so you’ve probably read about it in the trades over the years.
This sounds like it should be a comedy. And when did Channing Tatum lose his balls?
Would Hollywood please stop trying to foist this talentless lunkhead on us? He’s a horrible actor and has zero star charisma. He’s not the next Brad Pitt or Johnny Depp; he’s the next Josh Hartnett! And someone please take control of Rachel McAdams’s career. She clearly doesn’t know what to do with herself (that thankless role in the utterly forgettable State Of Play was evidence of that). She should be starring in much better films. Now she has star charisma!
Absolutely agree on the Tatum comment. But until studio research studies stop showing him as a big draw for women, he will continue to receive offers. Nevermind the fact that he’s already married, can’t act, and from all interview clips seems to be missing a large chunk of brain.
I was just coming here to say this exact same thing. I adore McAdams, but her career choices are maddening. And Channing Tatum a charisma-less chunk of wasted space.
Channing Tatum blew me away in A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, one of the best break out performances I’ve ever seen. Problem is he hasn’t been able to repeat it…he needs something really dark and edgy, enough with the brooding romantic dramas.
Actually, the script is very good and Channing and Rachel are well suited for it. Grey Gardens was very well acted, so I have high hopes for this.
I think I’ll go watch the amnesia movie OVERBOARD with Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn from 25 years ago instead.
So this is exactly like THE NOTEBOOK except she loses it when she is young instead of old?
50 FIRST DATES, anyone? Oh, yeah… this isn’t supposed to be funny.
I agree. Sucsy was eyeing some others that were much more intriguing. A safe bet that will fall flat. McAdams is a fine actress, but also passing on some great projects recently that would have given her a chance to show her stuff. Tatum has no range, so he should stick to what he does best, flexing his jawbone.
Regarding Henry?????Anyone
