Skeet Ulrich is set to star in NBC’s latest Law & Order spinoff, Law & Order: Los Angeles. The former Jericho star is the first actor tapped for the Dick Wolf-produced series, which had cast a wide net for its five regular roles. Ulrich gradually emerged as a frontrunner for the lead role of Detective Rex Winters, a handsome, rugged former Marine with the intuition of a natural cop. Winters was 6 weeks on the job when the Rodney King riots occurred, which shaped his entire policy of policing. His personal life is a bit of a mess: his first marriage ended when he had an affair – with his former partner, to whom he is now married. According to the series’ breakdown, LOLA follows closely the template of the other Law & Order series with two detectives, Winters and thirtysomething TJ Jaruszalski at the center, joined by a captain, a prosecutor, and his assistant. LOLA, from UMS and Wolf Films, is executive produced by Wolf, writer Blake Masters, showrunner Rene Balcer and Peter Jankowski. Ulrich recently played a serial killer in an arc on CSI:NY.

Great. Pair him with Michael Ealy
Nice! I like where your head’s at Teddy.
what about the girl that was with Skeet on Jericho, Alicia Coppola. She was awesome.
That would be fantastic. She was also on an episode of his show Miracles, they were great together.
It’s not the original, so far does not sound interesting, there are no personal lives talked about on L&O and this looks like it will go off course. Bring back L&O for a decent series finale.
What are you talking about? Some of the best original L&O episodes dealt with their personal lives. It’s never in your face, but during it’s best years, you’d always get one or two small mentions an ep.
Ditto!
And Cass, with the original L&O, I know that Briscoe had a drinking problem and is daughter worked for a drug-dealer which eventually led to her death. I know that Ed had a gambling problem. I know that Jack was active in 60′s politics and has an estranged daughter. I know that Van Buren was suffering from a medical condition. I know that Abby was raped while in law school. And the list continues.
L&O most definitely delves into personal lives.
You are right, they did write about their personal lives, loved every story line; but this one sounds like it may revolve more around Skeet’s personal life than what the show is really about. I could be wrong we will have to see….
I meant Skeet’s character!
Hahaha except for Serena’s “Is this because I’m a lesbian” moment!
I love Skeet and that storylne, but that timeline sounds weird. If he’s in his mid 30s (like myself), that puts him around 18 years old during Rodney King (which I was.) How could he have been a former Marine before he was 18?
These are the things that keep me up at night.
I’ve liked Skeet since Jericho and his film career and I think he will do just fine playing a Cop.
Considering it’s already July and Skeet is the 1st major actor they have cast, I’m beginning to think this show could be pushed to midseason unless they seriously get the ball rolling.
So excited Skeet will be back on TV!!! Count me in as a viewer!
He’s great, loved him on Jericho.
I liked Skeet as Jake Green on Jericho and believe he we do a wonderful job here also, Frank.
Skeet Ulrich is 40 and would have been 22 when the Rodney King riots happened.
Skeet may have been 22 but his character may have been older.
Yes, I just saw he was 40! I guess he is older than me.
Well, if he was 22 at the time of the riots, that works – 4 years in the military before hand.
I guess I didn’t think Ulrich was playing 40 these days…it seems like only 1996, he was playing a teenager.
And then I realize – that was 14 years ago.
He did a great job as the compass killer on CSI/NY this past season.
Skeet is so great in everything he does. This makes me excited to watch this show.
Blake Masters can do no wrong…
Will be tough seeing his vision get crushed by “no-balls” Balcer.
I always wondered what happened to “the poor man’s Johnny Depp.” Glad to hear he’s still alive out there somewhere…lol!
He was great in the South Park movie…
C’mon – Skeet Ulrich as an ex-Marine?! I would believe Johnny Depp as an ex-Marine before Skeet – and I wouldn’t buy Johnny Depp, either.
This series is bound for failure. The original L&O, in its first few years, was ground-breaking because it portrayed the actual reality of crime, nearly all Black and Hispanic, against mostly … Black and Hispanic victims. S. Empatha Merkeson, before playing the Captain, did a great job as the mother of a victim, killed because the illiterate child gang member shot up the wrong house.
Unfortunately that did poor ratings, and the format was switched to SWPL stuff about moralizing White prosecutors against “evil” White guys who resembled the ex-husbands of most of the L&O writing staff. Corporate execs may be stupid and greedy, but they don’t murder people. That storyline itself is a cliche more than fifty years old by now.
“Life” was the only original cop/detective show in the last ten years. Mixing revenge, honor, compassion, arc and episodic story structure, fantastic casting, and great location shots. The problem with LOLA is that it seems a carbon copy only in LA of a show that already failed under the dead weight of mindless repetition and not enough SWPL to keep an audience.
Show the big shot White guy. He did it, no mystery. Because his identity makes him the bad guy. Hectoring SWPL lectures about PC morality at every turn, alienating half the audience … or more.
If the original L&O couldn’t make it anymore, why would a clone be successful? Why would anyone think Wolff and Balcer could write something that a mass audience would want?
welcome back whiskey, now go away
Given that the majority of the US population is still white, how can the “reality of crime” show that it’s only brown-on-brown crime? (Why am I asking whiskey a logical question, come to think of it?
) Seriously, man, what is your racial malfunction? Do you think constantly spouting your hatred and ignorance conclusively establishes you as a superior person. It doesn’t. In fact, it’s a curse, for no matter how much you accomplish, you’ll never feel it’s enough because out there somewhere some brown person will always have “more” than you. Enjoy being miserable, dude.
Seriously, Teddy. Put Skeet and Michael Ealy together and I will watch the hell out of that show.
this just proves that the creators of Law and order since they were denied a chance at the gun smoke record and immortality have decided might as well spin off the series to death.
Skeet is a great guy, and a terrific actor. I wish him well !
LOVE IT! Love Skeet, love Law and Order, makes perfest sense and I’ll watch this thing to death!!
Love Skeet Ulrich in everything he does. His part in CSI-NY was great, Wonderful in Jericho. Can’t wait to watch this one.
Does anyone else remember when Skeet Ulrich was cool and compelling? Does anyone else remember the original Scream film, when we was fantastic in that role? Made you think he’d be this really scary intense actor for years and now it’s the skincrawingly dull Law and Orders he’s in. Depressing…
Skeet is a great underrated actor,I hope this show works out for him, CBS obviously didn’t realize his talent. I will check out LOLA, but I really hope it doesn’t get too political, or else not even Skeet(who I adore), will keep me watching.
Skeet was an excellent choice! He is a wonderfully talented underated actor. He can speak volumes with his eyes and emotions without even uttering a word out of his mouth. He did an awesome job as Hollis Eckhart on CSI NY! We miss him and Jericho terribly! CBS doesn’t know what they lost! Thank you NBC! Now there will be something to watch on television. Skeet will be one sexy detective!
bring back angie harmon!!
I love Skeet Ulrich and think he will enrich the series. Wait until all his followers from The Magic of Ordinary Days hear he is on TV again, it is not just Jericho fans who hunger to see more of him.
