EXCLUSIVE: Here is what happens when Steven Spielberg plucks you out of obscurity to play the lead in his next film. Jeremy Irvine, who makes his feature film debut as the lead in the Spielberg-directed War Horse, has signed with Spielberg’s agency, CAA. Irvine began his career at The National Youth Theatre and attended the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. His stage credits include the Royal Shakespeare Company’s 2010 production of Dunsinane. CAA will rep him along with UK-based Hatton, McEwan. Irvine plays a young man whose horse is conscripted for WWI battlefield duty. He sets out to reunite with his cherished animal. The film, based on Michael Morpugo’s novel and Nick Stafford’s stage adaptation, is Spielberg’s first for DreamWorks since it relaunched with Reliance and a Disney distribution deal.

Great opportunity for a newbie. Sounds like a compelling movie. We don’t have enough about WWI and look forward to Spielberg’s take on The Great War.
Godspeed, Jeremy Irvine.
Also, wonder of Spielberg ever considered doing a movie on Lockheed’s Skunk Works (e.g., SR-71, etc.) along the lines of The Right Stuff.
Oh boy another Dreamworks war movie. This time they go back to WWI how fascinating. Absolutely pathetic. Its like Sea Biscuit meets Pearl Harbor. Meets boring.
Jeremy Irvine please keep a diary starting now! I imagine you will have great stories to tell someday.
The subject matter will depress people…war movies only make financial sense in times of relative peace.
Half of these comments have clearly been made by people who have no knowledge at all of War Horse. The book is stunning and the stage play, produced by London’s National Theatre, has been playing to packed houses in the UK for a couple of years now. The story is glorious; about war, inarguably, but also about a wonderful friendship between a boy and his horse. I have met no one who has seen the play or read the book who was unaffected by it.
I cannot wait to see it, and best of luck to Jeremy Irvine… he’s going to have an amazing year!
