At the Hawaii Five-0 session, star Alex O’Loughlin was asked whether he feels more confident that his new show will fare better than his previous 2 CBS series, Moonlight and Three Rivers. “Yeah, I do,” he said. “I don’t want to take anything away from the other shows I’ve done… But the team behind this, I mean, the two men here who are at the helm of this show, Peter (Lenkov) and Alex (Kurtzman), and the writing staff that we have, everyone feels so capable. I read the pilot, I did the pilot, and I saw what they did with it. And there’s something special about it. If this one doesn’t go, I’m completely bewildered. I have no idea how television works at all.”

Should be interesting to see if he’s worth watching. The writing and production values on the other two shows were so laughable, it was hard to judge the acting. Or it would have been harsh to judge the acting – Either way.
I must say, they do have it all wrong. It won’t work and here’s why. First off, television is taking the way side to the Internet, judging by the cast they are after a younger demographic and while they believe that they can fix anything with the technical aspects of who’s on board, they forgot one important detail, PEOPLE CAN NOT RELATE TO THE SHOW. That’s why initial ratings will be good for curiosity purposes but it will be all downhill from there. That’s what happens when you keep rehashing the old stuff, been there done that.
I guess after all this time, since you posted this, can I say you’ll be eating your words now that this is a #1 show, I thought so. Have a nice day.
I thought Three Rivers was unwatchable.
Executives should know by now: it’s not necessarily the shows that aren’t working, it’s O’Loughlin! He’s not a horrible actor but he’s terribly dull to watch; very flat and devoid of charm. “Moonlight” really could have been something with a more compelling actor. What a waste of the awesome Jason Dohring that show was.
I only plan to watch Hawaii for Daniel Daw Kim and Scott Caan.
c4x – you’ve got to be kidding – Alex O’Loughin devoid of charm! What planet are you from? Alex oozed charm and personality galore in Moonlight as vampire Mick St. John. Sheesh. Your homework assignment is to watch the series again (on DVD, of course). You’ll change your mind.
I concur, wholeheartedly! Why in the hell has a network not given Dohring HIS own show yet? He’s way better than O’Loughlin. WAY better.
I saw the pilot for this and it was one of my favorites. If you can get asses in the seats to watch the pilot it should hold them through the season. its a fun show for sure. and we have a place in hawaii that we don’t get to much and it makes me miss it…
The question is, no matter how good the remake is, will it draw in a vastly different environment. The original was made for/by a male audience. Today’s TV is mostly female. And by that I mean overwhelmingly female.
“Life” with Damien Lewis was great. However, being so “male” (a variant of the Count of Monte Christo) it could connect with TV’s mostly female audience.
Yes O’Loughlin is a female fan fave. But its story not anything else that dominates and makes a series successful or not.
Im going to watch the hell out of this show
Ah…this sucks!
I think most people just want to hear him say “book ‘em Danno”. But wait, he has already said it in the teaser ads. So why watch now?
Watch Alex in The back up plan with jennifer lopez — i had never watched him before, but after that movie became a fan.
I sure hope CBS does a better job promoting this show than they did Moonlight or Three Rivers. For all those who think Moonlight got cancelled because of the acting or the storyline, think again. Most people had never even heard of Moonlight until CW picked it up and started airing the re-runs. The first time I saw I thought “Finally, a vampire series for adults!” I liked the character of Mick St. John, thought Alex O’Loughlin played him well – personality, sensitivity (without being ridiculous and depressed like some TEEN version vamps who shall remain nameless [you know who I mean, glitter boy]), charm, a sense of humor and GOOD LORD that sexy smoldering face and body to match. What a disappointment to find out it only aired ONE SEASON due to CBS’ poor advertising! I’ll point out too that Moonlight has a HUGE fan base of folk who, like I, missed it entirely when it aired on CBS & would love more than anything to see it return for another season – too bad the entire cast has moved on! I hope to see Hawaii Five-O become HUGELY successful for Alex O’Loughlin not only because I think he’s a talented dude, but because I’d sure love an excuse to keep staring at him! I’ll even suffer through trying to see past J-Lo’s huge booty to see him strut his stuff on the big screen in the Backup Plan!
Alex better update his resume.
OMG – Alex is amazing and not just because I’m a woman who finds him gorgeous. He exudes charm, masculinity and is not over the top but subtle in his acting style. Thought he was great in Moonlight and very good in the Oyster Farmer. Hawaii Five-O, his character is supposed to be a bit of a tense uptight, military dude but that’s what makes the chemistry between him and Scott Caan.
Anyway I think he will be around for awhile and after his comedy Back-Up Plan w/ JLo, we should see him in other lead roles as well.
