EXCLUSIVE: In a last-minute recasting, Timm Sharp has joined HBO’s upcoming Mike White/Laura Dern comedy series Enlightened as a regular. The single-camera comedy stars Dern as a self-destructive woman who has a spiritual awakening and decides to live an enlightened life, which creates havoc at home and work. UTA-repped Sharp will play her new boss when she returns to work. He replaces Mos Def, who was originally cast in the role but exited over deal issues. Undeclared alum Sharp, who most recently co-starred on Fox’s ‘Till Death, has been in business with HBO before, doing an arc on Six Feet Under and co-starring in the 2008 pilot 1%. Filming on Enlightened started today in the Los Angeles area, though Sharp’s role does not start shooting for another 10 days or so.

While, HBO is doing great dramas again with Treme, True Blood, Boardwalk Empire and A Game of Thrones, their new comedies Hung and Eastbound are horrible. The only new comedy currently airing that has potential and got better is Bored To Death. The only thing that makes me hopeful regarding HBO Comedy is Enlightened and Tilda.
Eastbound & Down is one of those shows that’s so unbelievably good, it inevitably has detractors like you, Jack. Six episodes and you’re already cranky enough to call it “horrible?” Kenny Powers is one of the most compelling characters on TV, drama included, a guy you can’t keep your eyes off of. The guy could buy a soda from a vending machine and make me laugh.
But Jack didn’t like it. Wah wah.
Jack is right. Kenny Powers is a selfish idiot and the show hasn’t given me one reason to care about him or like him.
I’m gonna second mike on that one
How is six episodes not enough to tell if a show is good or bad? lol
Chris, Parks and Rec?
bigger fan of According to Jim, Yes Dear, and the like, Jack? Moron. Keep your trap shut. You’re ruining TV for the rest of us.
No, Im a fan of Dream On, Larry Sanders, Arliss, Bored to Death.
Who is this guy and why is Def out? Def is one of the most underrated actors working today.
Sharp was awesome on UNDECLARED. It’s nice to see him get some steady work. As for Jack, Dream On? Arliss? REALLY??? I liked Dream On when I was a kid and they were new. When the first 2 seasons came out on DVD, I purchased them in a bout of nostalgia and found the show to be mostly unwatchable. It really wasn’t good. And Arliss.. yikes. Once you got past the gimmick of all of the sports star cameos, it was a pretty terrible show. Bored To Death was good and Larry Sanders is an all-time classic; no complaints there.
And how are we (not just Jack – a lot of people are) judging Boardwalk Empire and A Game of Thrones already? Last time I check, neither show has aired yet. I have high hopes for both, but shouldn’t we wait until we actually see them before we call them great?
I worked with Timm on a project about a year ago. A great guy, and super talented.
Newsflash to Josh:
It doesn’t take more than six episodes to decide if a show sucks or not. One episode is more than enough. You sound like you work on the show which goes a long way in explaining your attitude that someone should keep watching a show they hate in order to “appreciate” it. No. Watching shows you hate doesn’t make you smart. It just means you’re an idiot who forgot where they put the remote.
Ok, sorry to go off topic. But, does anyone know what’s happening with HBO’s Luck? Suprised it didn’t get immediate pickup.
I like Timm, but I love Mos. What gives?
I saw on Shock Till U Drop that Tim’s going to be in a new horror movie called Polydeus.
I worked with Timm on a web series called Camera Obscura that should be released by Halloween. He’s one of the good guys.
Mos Def would have been horrible in that role… Sharp provides a level of comedy and humor that Mos Def does not have..at all.
