The Hollywood Reporter has done it again. So I’m embarrassed for the trade paper and any media outlet that stoops to content theft and won’t properly credit Deadline.
Back on June 25th, Mike Fleming posted within his scoop about Peter Jackson negotiating to direct both Hobbit films that “he, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens scheduled a trip to London the week of July 4, followed by a trip to Los Angeles the following week. They will meet the most impressive actors who’ve been put on tape by casting directors.” So imagine vacationing Mike’s surprise to get an email alert today from THR claiming an exclusive that “director Peter Jackson is in Los Angeles this week quietly meeting with actors. The casting trip, which also included stops in New York and the U.K…” What makes this even worse is that the THR story doesn’t add one new fact. Nor have I forgotten that, well after Mike posted his initial scoop about Jackson directing the Hobbit films, THR tried to claim that as an exclusive, too.
Editor-in-Chief Nikki Finke - tip her here.

surprise Peter is starting to cast the hobbit since he can not do any thing till Mgm true fate is decided or Warners and new line wind up buying out mgm out of the hobbit for good. though guest Peter is getting actors talked to with the idea if the funds come through for the hobbit in the end they can then sign contracts
Today is the “deadline” for MGM to get an extension on their credit line I do believe…..so maybe he knows something the rest of Hollywood does not??
shame on thr!! their site is always down anyway.
They were meeting with Peter 3 months ago …this is old news…can’t believe thr claims is breaking news
anyone else think Aaron Johnson would be ideal for the lead in The Hobbit ? he would have been too predictable a choice for Spiderman, but Matthew Vaughn sure does have a nack for showcasing the next big stars (see Daniel Craig / ‘Layer Cake’)…
Come on Nikki – this is so NOT a TOLDJA. WTF would Peter be doing “casting” The Hobbit when he does not have a director deal in place? He may have unofficially met with a couple actors as a courtesy in LA but he is not signed to direct and he has stated that, he’s not even negotiating to direct. They are working out the financing details and MGM debt hell first.
Actually, the LA casting has not only been continuing, but it is almost finished.
Doesn’t Warner Bros. have a hard-on for this project? Give it to them and get this movie going already.
It is always such a relief to know Jackson is directing them.
