EXCLUSIVE: USA Network has picked up drama series In Plain Sight for two more seasons, bringing the U.S. marshal show’s run on the cable network to five seasons. The main cast, including Mary McCormack, Frederick Weller and Paul Ben-Victor, are all set to return to IPS, which will continue to film in New Mexico. The series recently wrapped up its third season, which averaged 5.2 million viewers, 1.8 million in them in the adults 18-49 demographic. This is probably the first in a series of renewals expected at USA over the next few weeks, as the network’s original series are once again performing strongly this summer. The two-year pickup for IPS mirrors a similar two-year renewal USA gave to its flagship drama Burn Notice earlier this year.

Hope this is true! There have been a lot of fake press releases circulating about this show!
Good news. I have to assume that Universal offered IPS at a discount for a multi-season pickup. Plus, it helps the show has only 3 series regulars and isn’t shot in LA or New York.
I heard that season 3 was cut short from 16 to 13 episodes because of some medical issues with showrunner John McNamara. Nothing was every updated beyond that.
Wonder how many episodes season 4 and 5 are getting.
This show ROCKS! It is SO good – MUCH better than I anticipated! I am SO glad I gave it a shot.
I LOVE Marys’ sassy cattitude…
Love this show, and the quality of the writing. Mary is a complicated character, full of energy, anger, love, compassion, tenderness and very very human.
I enjoy every episode…. I just wish she talked a little bit slower. Sometimes it’s hard to understand.
If her (McCormack’s) lip injections weren’t so freaky, I could stand to watch the show for more than five minutes. But…. damn!
Extremely glad to see more of this show, but still disgusted that they couldn’t do the same for Saving Grace!!!
Who is “they”? Saving Grace is on TNT, IPS is on USA.
THIS IS COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY AWESOME!
and made of win!
glad to hear it got the pick up given rumors were flying u.s.a did not think the show was worthy of any more seasons but two seasons more.good which means more of Mary and her lovely whit and also her trying to not go postal on her nutty family . plus more of Marshal spewing his wisdom.
The success of this show mystifies me. I can’t believe people would tolerate enjoy working with a fellow worker so negative and nasty day in and day out. Then why watch it? Beats me. Negativity triumphs.
There’ve been tons of male characters like Mary and no one gives a shit.
Love this show and Mary McCormack. Happy it’s back. Shocked Zucker had a hand in a good decision.
right. 5,2M. of course.
This is good news. The quality of the series has only improved with each season.
The only bad thing about this show, which I really like, is that Cristian De La Fuente isn’t a regular. He made the show worth watching.
uh…. am I the only one who thinks this shows sucks balls?
No, you’re not the only one. I tried watching This show and it hurt my brain. The writing and acting are horrible. The plots are sub-Matlock quality. It’s horrible in every way.
Hate women much?
USA should have stuck with its original instinct.
Ever since creator David Maples was canned, the show has lost its emotional moorings and stinks to high heaven. Mary used to be humorously cynical and the stories had heart. Now, she spews unending venom at everything, she isn’t funny, and there’s not enough Marshall or Stan to compensate for the downer of the lead.
I’ve watched several interviews with Mary McCormack, an actress I really enjoy, and her natural persona is far more appealling than the bitter harpy the new production team has made of her character. I want the funny touching Mary back, but I’m not likely to get her.
The very premise of the show is great: giving people a second chance at a new life. People all screw up – it’s human nature – and in this show we see what it “could” look like, at least in the mind of television writers and actors.
I find Mary really tough, strong, and simultaneously sensitive, having to deal with her pretty wacky mother and somewhat simple-minded sister. The shows plots are creative and interesting, even if they are relatively over-simplified at times.
Overall, a really entertaining show. Great cast.
This is a great show. Mary M. is smart, and I love her acid humor. I have been waiting for the new season and I am so relieved the show is coming back. I disagree the writing needs improvement. There isn’t another show on TV with such a cool character as the lead. I do think the disfunctional family concept has not played out and needs to be elaborated. I don’t like the brother idea and the sister is wimpy too.
I like this show and am glad to hear it’s renewed. Actually I’m kind of surprised because this season’s budget cuts were so blatantly obvious. Although not nearly as bad as what they did to the last season of The Dead Zone.
I LOVE BOTH of these shows! And “Mary” is awesome. Love her tell-it-like-it-is attitude!
Great news – two years is teriffic! I noticed most of previous comments are on “Mary” but the enitre cast is noteworthy when given script time! My fav is “Marshall”. S1&2 had Mary and Marshall working together. S3 split them up and Mary got the air time. They are magic together(in a weird way)so please powers that be, give us more of Marshall. Congtratulations to all involved in this series.
Awesome….so glad to hear!!
This is the best news I’ve had in weeks. This show is several cuts above the usual fair; smart, witty and with real heart. As long as Mary and Marshall return to the air waves, this old broad is a happy one.
Mary and Marshall are like yin and yang. I would adopt these characters into my life it were possible!! Just wish Mary would realize what a hunk Marshall is, standing right there in front of her for the taking!!! Hopefully, that will happen eventually!! Agree, Mary does talk a little fast. We have the TV set for closed captioning!! A lot of TV shows have people who talk too fast, or mutter. Try it — you’ll LOVE it!!
This is brilliant news! Such an awesomely edgy, iconoclastic show, written by writers who are well versed in real life paradoxes and trumphs of work, love , passion, courage and character.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ONE OF THE BEST WRITTEN and TALENT POPULATED ENSEMBLES on TELEVISION SINCE NCIS!!!
LOVE USA CHANNEL–JUST THE GREATEST< MOST DIVERSE SHOWS–on IPS not afraid to show a strong woman, in all her complexity, a gentle man who isn't gay, and abunch of folks struggling with recovery…and making it!
Love the show and I hope Marshall and Mary get together.
Love the show great acting and writing
Anyone know when Season 4 will premiere?
Im a total IPS junkie and can’t wait for season four to begin….i was a little afraid someone would make a stupid decision and cancel this show….don’t have a problem boycotting a channel when they cancel without cause or feedback from the audience
I really hope it comes back. It’s my favorite show.
