I’ve just confirmed from sources close to the singer that the “deal is done” for Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler to be one of the new judges despite having very little TV experience. He has played himself on a few tube episodes (Two And A Half Men and Lizzie McGuire) and been a presenter on countless music awards shows. So there’s no indication what kind of judge he would make. But music industry types I’ve spoken with stress that performers like Tyler often have a hard time openly criticizing other performers, especially up-and-comers. They find it hard to imagine he’ll fill the Simon Cowell “cruel to be kind” role on the show. As things stand now, Tyler will be joining Jennifer Lopez on American Idol next season. Nigel Lythgoe a few days ago denied unconfirmed reports circulating that J-Lo may lose the job because of diva demands after she was offered the gig and accepted it. Fox et al would have to be idiots not to realize that asking J-Lo onto the show would mean inviting an entourage in tow. Meanwhile, Michael Ferrel, the new CEO of the American Idol producer CKX, said Fox expects to announce the replacement judges shortly after Labor Day on September 6th. Meanwhile, CKX still has no new deal for the 10th season of the show and negotiations between its 19 Entertainment with Fox and Fremantle are continuing. It expects Fox to renew its American Idol deal by the end of Q4 or early 2011 at the latest. “It would almost be impossible that Fox wouldn’t want American Idol for its next season,” CFO Thomas Benson told investors.

Oh Lord, what a mess. . .
The upside of this is that Aerosmith can get a new singer, record a new album, and tour.
Tyler is a good replacement for Paula Abdul.
Listening to the judges is going to be like SNL’s Celebrity Jeopardy.
Why not replace Simon with Triumph the Insult Comic Dog?
I don’t care about the show, but I’m disapointed that Steven is going ahead with it. Once a rocker not always a rocker. Too bad!
Steven Tyler will probably be very truthful and not care if his opinion is accepted or not. After all, he has been run through the critics extensively for years and still doesn’t care what they say. He will keep on rocking until he drops. Yes, he’s older and doesn’t look 30 anymore. BFD. Grow up folks. As for J-Lo, she will also be truthful in her criticism. She started out as a “Fly Girl” dancing on In Living Color and look where she is today (thanks to Selena too!) Both new judges will pose a definite edge to Idol, which can be a good thing. If they don’t work out, then adios. Someone else will fill the seats. Thank goodness for Randy. As long as he stays put, Idol will continue to be everyone’s favorite reality show. Now–let’s get on with the show! Let’s see what Texas cuties make it to the top ten again!
Wake up people Simon was Great no questions about that but the show got boring. Look at your past winners. In New York they get no air play Cole, Studerman, Underwood only pop versions, the jerk who lost to Lambert, the black girl, so on Tyler has a Great personality. The man is a Legend the show is to be Singer, Showperson, Stage Presence. Every thing Tyler is Kill the Rap an go back to basics Rock Musicians need talent to survive no sampling someone elses song Kick ASS Steve!
It’s amazing how many are negative authorities on a guy like Steven Tyler. First of all, what an incredible career due to his extraordinary sing abilities! Yes, he has his weaknesses like every other human being on this earth, but man, as far as talent and being able to judge it, not only did Idol make an outstanding choice, but Steven exeeds in talent beyond most humans.
THANK YOU! Someone who has a freakin brain.
Get a grip people, ST has more talent in his skinny little ass than the rest of what is called nowadays, talent. He will add his years of experience and humor to the panel, which is what this show needs badly, if it plans to stick around.
Why does everyone assume Tyler is replacing SImon? Seems more as a Paula replacement to me, with a little edge. Throw David Foster into the mix and it just might work.
Idol needs an “asshole” judge to stay on top. Simon made the show and knew his business. Tyler and JLo won’t cut it in the end. Where’s that chick that hosted Weakest Link? She’d work!
Randy will have to step it up and fill the void. He will have to be more blunt, less sensitive, to the point and direct. His experience on the show will allow him to adapt to the changes easily and he will hopefully carry the show for another season.
It is unbelievable that an unknown talent could not be found to replace the judges lost. Hopefully the talent will make up for the weaknesses on the judging panel. There was a time when we tuned in just to see what Simon would say next. He will surely be missed.
Good Luck Idol! and Steve & JLo
Finally a reason to watch this show…. Mr steven Tyler im so excited i love this man, i think he will surprise all you haters
