UPDATE: Emmy-nominated AMC/Sony TV drama Breaking Bad won’t premiere fresh episodes for its fourth season until July 2011. That’s more than a full year after the conclusion of Season Three last June. “I think what AMC is thinking here is there will be less competition for us — particularly from the broadcast networks — if we launch our season during the summer than if we come back again like we did this time in March,” lead actor Bryan Cranston tells me. As a result, the show won’t be eligible for a third best drama series Emmy nomination next year. That also affects Cranston, who received his third consecutive Emmy nomination last month. (He won 2 years running and might three-peat on August 29). To bridge the 13-month gap between seasons, the plan is to produce short interstitial mini-episodes of 3-to-4 minutes apiece early next year after the show goes back in production in January. They’ll be posted on AMC’s website. “The idea is to keep people aware and interested in the show during the long time away,” Cranston says to me. “But I, for one, am eager to make these little interstitials important. I don’t want them to be simply filler or recap, but something that actually moves the storyline forward. If we’re going to do it, it ought to be a real part of the larger show.”

This is exactly what killed the Sopranos, in the end even the writers forgot the storyline. What a shame!
Look I’ve never been hooked on meth but I am hooked on this show and I need my fix man! I can’t wait till next year yo! If the writers are really taking time off to recharge, I wish they would reconsider and ask us fans for some suggestions. I’m sure we could come up with some wack shit!
WOW! I live in ABQ and my concern is that ABQ studios is in and out of the news for financial trouble. They claim it is not really a problem…but is it? (worried) I love this show and have recruited many new followers….I sure hope that they are not thinking of dropping what Bryan Cranston called “a character” (meaning Albuquerque) from the show. I will be a fan no matter where they take the show, but please keep it in the “505″.
Break for 12 months is enough time for another show(s) that could be as much cool as this one.
And perhaps they will get the Emmy Award.
Wasted time.
“Milk the cow as long as possible”.
btw.
It´s all about the Benj… money.
there are so few shows my husband and i enjoy together and breaking bad is number one.!! we are very very disapointed! we are mad at amc.
First I went to AMCs site to try to see when season 4 will air and found nothing…now I see why. I’d be ashamed too as this is way too long to wait regardless of reason. I’d be miffed if the news was January….heck tomorrows already too long in my heart…but July!! All it’s innovation, risk and style is slowly fizzling out in my mind…isn’t the concept hinged on Cancer patients? If you were one in late stages of your disease you’d be dead before you saw the final season! It’s just ridiculous
Color me unimpressed.
I am just glad it will be coming back at all and if its 1 year or 5 I’m still gonna be watching it. Also by the time they get it on again maybe they’ll of had enough time to put together 4 o 5 more seasons running back to back.
Seems like the story line was weakening at the end of this last Season. Jesse’s final shot may have put the bullet in this series.
This long wait for the next season is asking a lot of what I assume is a very loyal fan base.
The quality acting presented by the collective talent on this show can be spread around to other series or film. With this much talent the fans would just as soon follow the actors elsewhere.
Aaron Paul has become one of my favorite actors! I believe his character was presented and evolved with plausible intensity which in my opinion, as much as I like Mr. Cranston, outshined the rest of the cast. Sorry Walt!
It can be said that the writers need extra time to develop a quality storyline. Thats like making excuses for getting your homework in late.
Aaron Paul has contributed enormously to the intesity of this show and his skill as an actor has grown exponentially. He carried off the final scene in the last episode as well as anyone could,, but the storyline in the final episode was lacking the impact of the previous episode
One of the most engaging elements of the show has been watching Walt contiually raising the bar on his own moral descent becoming more radical with each episode.
The season should have ended with Walt’s final utterance,,”Run!”.
The actual final episode would have been a great premier for the 4th Season.
That being said ,,I am as faithfull a fan as any other and I’ll be parked front and center come July 2011!!
If I had known it was going to be that long, I could have cancelled my cable for a year:)
Personnally I think this is crazy!I won’t be sitting around waiting for the new season….I think this is a horrible mistake
If it’s frustrating to wait so long for the new season, it’s far more frustrating to think that in the interim I’ll need to focus on catching their 3-4 minute commercials or I might miss something. You want to wait ’til July, just wait ’til July. How are such “mini-episodes” gonna move the story forward when last season ended with a serious cliff-hanger?
What a fine show, what a bureaucratic rip-off. I wont wait, thanks for the first three seasons. Off to other things of interest.
Thats right, I’m done with it too! Screw em’ all!
I think this will cause some followers to lose interest, and the network will experience some viewer loss. Also I think that the mini series online is a bad idea, because not everybody has the internet.
If the mini series is to be online and move the story forward there should be a recap on tv. I for one will wait, and am eagerly awaiting the new episodes. keep up the good work
I think this is a bad idea. I think that amc will lose followers doing this. That is a long time between new shows and fear new fans who started watching last season will lose interest. I also believe that if this mini series is to move the storyline forward, it should also be be aired on tv as well as online, as everyone is not online. I myself will be eagerly waiting for new episodes, and hope Breaking Bad will stick around for a while. Keep up the good work guys!!
this show is my new crack, thanks to word of mouth i decided to watch the first episode and been hooked since just about 2 weeks ago from season 1 episode 1 to the season 3 finale. I am anxious for the premier to start of season 4 but I hate that they are going to wait 13 months to air it since the finale of season 3. As a viewer this makes no damn sense to me and i find it idiotic and would think that by the time the new season airs many people would have lost interest in the show or forgotten about it but from their stand point i understand the wait. they want to give the viewers what they deserve and what the show deserves, masterpieces aren’t created by being rushed. 13 months is a crazy long time to air a continuing series but I’ll be there when it does….like i said this show is my new crack =)
4 mins times 12 web episodes = 48 mins(length of one normal episode) fans have to wait over a year and all we get is one episode of filler…. &@$%!
I think the characters of the story will kill that spanish drug leader, and get on top of the drug cartel stack, and of course his brother will find out that walt is a drug dealer, man this series is AWSOME! can’t wait!
This is why amc is so horrible bad decisions a year apart I try to tell everyone about the show but a year between, amc will continue to make poor decisions it’s like they are trying to stay in the dark and hide breaking bad why hide something soo good bad bad idea amc
What if it were just done on purpose in order to create the buzz on Internet…
I my opinion, S4 could arrive quicker than said … (I hope
I wonder if the Emmy awards give out an Villechaize lifelong award for stupid moves? The AMC suits would be a unanimous choice. The show is going to lose its momentum and the best writers are going to get other gigs, leaving us with predictability–the very opposite of what makes this show great.
Perhaps less focus on the new OWN and more on the GOOD STUFF!
Another example of man’s inhumanity to man. There’s NOTHING on tv to watch… Walking Dead, breaking bad all delayed… they cancelled Rubicon. Sh*t, I’m going to have to read some of those 100 free books that are loaded on my Kobo reader.
I was shocked when I read this. This is simply TOO LONG. The computer idea is not an acceptable alternative to the real deal. AMC, don’t abuse the fan base!
it’s so stupid that we have to wait so long between seasons!i’m tempted to not watch the show and wait until it’s all out on dvd.then i can watch it all in one fell swoop without trying to remember what happened the last time i watched. these people need to figure out how to do proper seasons of these shows!!!
Well Said Anonymous!
Except they wouldn’t even release season 3 until over a year later! Go figure. Absolutely loved this show, but the brains at AMC are idiots for this choice. Everyone has moved on. New shows. Out of sight, out of mind. If they ever get it back on TV, it will be the last season. They can’t do this again. Screw the viewers, screw the fans.
