EXCLUSIVE: Channing Tatum is set to star in The Contortionist’s Handbook, the film adaptation of the Craig Clevenger novel that will be financed by GreeneStreet Films and Sidney Kimmel Entertainment as a co-production between those companies and DAS Films. Production will begin early next year.
Tatum will play a forger who moves smoothly from one identity to the next because of a strict code of conduct that keeps him from getting caught or having to deal with his own troubled past. That gets upended when he falls for a beautiful woman with her own dark secret. Robin Shushan wrote the script. The novel was published in 2002.
The film will be produced by Das Films’ Sriram Das, GreeneStreet’s John Penotti, Tim Williams and Sidney Kimmel. Tatum is aboard the project as co-producer, along with Reid Carolin, his partner in the shingle 33andout.
Stretching into a producing role with The Contortionist’s Handbook seems a logical progression for Tatum, the G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra star who broadened into the romance genre with the hit Dear John. Tatum has been filming The Dilemma, the Ron Howard-directed comedy for Universal Pictures that stars Vince Vaughn and Kevin James, and next begins shooting The Vow opposite Rachel McAdams. Tatum just wrapped the Steven Soderbergh-directed Haywire. He’ll next star in the Kevin Macdonald-directed Focus Features drama The Eagle, playing a Roman soldier who ventures into the untamed Highlands of Scotland to discover the truth behind his father, who disappeared along with the Roman legion he commanded. Tatum’s repped by UTA and Management 360.
FilmNation’s Glen Basner will sell international rights through its partnership with GreeneStreet.
“Craig Clevenger’s crafting of the highly complex character of John Vincent Dolan entertained and shattered us when we read it,” said GreeneStreet’s Penotti. “Robin’s adaptation crisply captures the gripping journey that Channing will lead us through.”

I keep hearing from people that Channing Tatum is IRL a really nice, humble, down-to-earth guy. It makes me almost feel bad for hating his uninterrupted run of meathead performances.
he did good job in stop / loss
Channing Tatum is extremely smart guy, own production company.
This is a very wise career move & will be watching out for this film as well as The Eagle, Haywire & The Dilemma.
I have just completed Paulina Simmonds trilogy of THE BRONZE HORSEMAN and have heard that they are contemplating doing a movie of these books which I hope they do as they are exceptional reading and would make a great epic.NOW I was thinking CHANNING TATUM would make a great Alexander,so what do you think
I don’t know why people hate on this guy he was excellent in Stop Loss, A Guide To Recognising Your Saints, Dear John etc.
I’ve just seen the Morgan and Destiny’s Eleventeenth Date: The Zeppelin Zoo with Joseph Gordon-Levitt as the Director and it’s pretty cool stuff.
Let’s wait and see what happens with The Eagle, Haywire and The Son of No One with Ray Liotta, Al Pacino.
They obviously needed him in Step Up 3D, the guy can dance and not the worst actor on the planet. I think he is a good actor.
He’s adequate. Not like he’s had to stretch at all, basically playing the same guy. Let’s see what he does with some grittier material.
Not “everyone” hates him. Most just dont care.
But the only people who “like” him are younger girls and gay men for obvious reasons…
Not to mention he is extremely hot.
He is not the worst actor on the planet. He is the worst actor in Hollywood, unfortunately.
But it’s great that he’s got good people putting good thoughts into his brain and helping him out! Otherwise, and again unfortunately, he would still be stripping
Everybody’s gotta move up! Also, glad to hear he’s been described as a nice guy
No range.
What a shame. That is one of my favorite books of all time. Not to slight Tatum, but he is all wrong for this role. It’s too bad Richard Kelly never got it off the ground, but he may have ruined it as well.
I don’t get the hating on him either. Saw him in the Soderbergh ‘Haywire’ film and he was fantastic..smart to do it..even tho it’s not a ***Starring role…he can’t help it if he’s pretty.
haven’t seen his weepy shit, but thought he was great in saints and not too bad in fighting
Channing is attractive, smart and yes talented. Quite rare for a male model to transfer to acting and keep relevant. He’s shown extraordinary fealty to LW behind the scenes – esp. when other scum agents at WMA tried to steal him from her while she was pregnant (way to stay classy).
Go LOUISE WARD!
Tatum Schmatum. It’s about the book, and let’s hope the screenplay does it justice!
Me too!
To really nail Contorchy, the guy gotta be able to SHOC.
Gee, I wonder who would deflect the attention AWAY from Channing and his moment and try put it on his subpar agent “LW”…hmmm, i wonder who that could be, this is a tough one. “Classy” indeed.
I thought Tatum was good and believable in “Fighting”.
Fighting had the worst acting I’ve seen in awhile. But I blame the director more than him…
His best acting was in Public Enemies…When he was shot and killed in the first 10 minutes of the movie…
