If indie distributor Hannover House’s CEO Eric Parkinson has his way, the Joel Schumacher-directed Twelve will not only stir box office when it opens Friday, it will also be popular on the IMDB.com website. And since entry to that popularity clique can be manipulated by hyperactive clicking, he’s asking everyone he knows to log on and click away.
Parkinson sent out this Facebook post asking for help: “Twelve opens at theaters next Friday, and this is my last shot at driving up the film’s ranking and score on the Internet Movie Database site. Just by CLICKING on the link below, you will help drive up the film’s popularity ranking. And if…you’re registered, you can even VOTE for the film (up to TEN stars!) You can only vote once, but you can click repeatedly. The reason this is important is that many media and broadcasters refer to the film’s ranking on IMDB to decide whether or not to do coverage!”
Who knew that being popular online was such hard work? Reached by e-mail, Parkinson freely admitted he was trying to rig the rankings, but said everybody does it. “Every studio and PR firm knows it and engages in stealth searching to elevate rank of films and stars,” Parkinson wrote me. “The only difference is that Hannover House is completely honest and upfront about it. If all the other studios are stuffing the ballot box (so-to-speak), anyone who doesn’t do the same will have what appears to be a `low’ popularity ranking. It’s very hard for an indie studio to compete against the major releases. They outspend us ten-fold and outmaneuver us at every turn. Internet outreach teams are engaged to do countless Google and key-word searches and relentlessly pound IMDB to elevate a film’s ranking. Hannover House doesn’t have that sort of money or resources, but we do recognize what’s happening, and are not afraid to shine light on this truth.”

Twelve.
The oldest one could be and possibly find this flick interesting.
It worked didn’t it? He got you talking about it =)
The man has a point, support the indies!
Twelve…(begin creepy trailer voice) In a world where money and good looks are everything, this is the true story of what happens when you take 3 awful actors (Crawford, Jackson, Roberts) and try to make them seem less beautiful by showing them taking drugs and having sex for money… Rated R for REALLY SUCKS.
Seriously, Between Basketball Diaries, Kids, Bully, and that lame street movie with Jonathan Taylor Thomas and Darryl Hannah, haven’t we seen this movie enough? With each incarnation, the acting gets worse and the budget gets smaller. Why dont you just make a movie called “Pretty People Get Better Drugs and Have Better Sex Than You” and be done with it.
That was awesome! Funnier and truer words haven`t been spoken!
Unfortunately I did not hear any love for this movie at Sundance. But who knows, people tended to hate “Primer” and they were wrong.
Anything with 50 Cent is a non-starter.
Total dirt bag.
I’m ashamed to admit that in my wilder days that I was acquainted with a few dealers of non-pharmaceutical-grade chemicals and not ashamed to say none of them looked or acted anything remotely close to Chace Crawford. Silly, silly child.
so #154 is not good enough?.. what I want to know is how do they expect people to go see the film if know has even seen the ads for it… go spend some A part of the P&A my distributor.. don’t be so damn cheap!
People at Sundance thought this movie was just AWFUL.
Dude, PRIMER won the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance. TWELVE, from all reports, nearly got laughed off the screen.
It did, and deservedly so. One of my all time favorite movies, gets better with each viewing, but when I was there I didn’t see it because I had heard from so many people who hated it. I guess they just didn’t want to work for that amazing meal.
The film being released is a new edit – it was cut down after the awful Sundance performance. Crawford’s part was trimmed down a lot and the new edit is supposed to be pretty good – that’s the word anyway.
What he said (Eric Parkinson). Right on, excellent point (re rigged rankings, paid tweets, etc. etc.)
RE: TWELVE @ Sundance…
Roger Ebert: “Schumacher is not fashionable with Sundance types, and I suspect this [TWELVE] will emerge from the festival with reviews that don’t concede its power. But it will perform.”
Honestly, has Joel Schumacher EVER made a good movie. I mean, think about it. He is one of the most artless hacks in Hollywood and yet he continues to get work. It’s baffling.
This is not a story, and Twelve should still manage to earn a well-deserved tanking at the BO. If you’re going to talk about Hannover, why not mention how they picked up another Sundance film, one that’s actually good and was roundly praised at Sundance, but just recently completely flaked on those producers by reneging on their promises of a proper domestic theatrical release. Hannover is either shockingly stupidly run… or worse.
Emma Roberts brought a clip to Leno a while back and it was so boring and cringe-worthy. I’ll wait for dvd on this one.
