It happened last night for the Universal/Illumination inaugural film and becomes the 8th pic this year– and the 4th toon — to cross the $200 million mark. It’s just beginning to roll out overseas in 44 territories over next few months, so the worldwide gross is now $234 million.

Wow. Can’t wait to see Ricky Gervais’ Flanimals. That should be an awesome movie.
Despicable Me is great fun and deserves this level of success.
Illumination produced an extremely good film at less than half of the cost of most other big animated films. Illumination has clearly demonstrated its filmmaking skill…and, on a budget.
I look forward with eager anticipation to see what Illumination does next.
Well done!
This movie was such great fun. The design and voice work was great also. I liked it as least as much as my kids.
Yea and toy story 3 has done a lot more , what’s your point ?
The point is that Despicable Me is the most successful non-Disney/Pixar, non-Dreamworks animated movie ever. It’s made more money than Ratatouille, and will soon pass up Kung Fu Panda, How to Train Your Dragon, and most likely WALL-E. For an original movie from a new studio, that’s pretty impressive.
Ratatouille made $206 million domestic and $624 million worldwide. Don’t know where you got your numbers, but Dispicable Me hasn’t made more money than Ratatouille (yet).
