EXCLUSIVE: Meet Disney Channel’s new Zac Efron and Demi Lovato hopefuls. The cable channel has assembled the cast of what is being groomed to be its next original movie/musical franchise, Lemonade Mouth, by mixing young Disney series stars and unknowns with TV veterans Tisha Campbell-Martin and Christopher McDonald. The story follows five disparate high school students who meet in detention and form a band. Starring are Bridgit Mendler (Disney Channel’s Good Luck Charlie) as lead vocalist Olivia White, Adam Hicks (Disney XD’s Zeke and Luther) as keyboardist Wen Giford, Hayley Kiyoko (Disney Channel’s Wizards of Waverly Place) as electric guitarist Stella Yamada, Naomi Scott (Disney Channel UK’s Life Bites) as bass guitarist Mohini and Blake Michael (discovered during an open casting call) as percussionist Charlie Delgado. Nick Roux as Scott Pickett, Chris Brochu as Ray Beach will play rival band Mudslide Crush, while Campbell-Martin will play music teacher Miss Reznick and McDonald Principal Brenigan. The movie, slated for a 2011 premiere, was written by April Blair based on the book Lemonade Mouth by Mark Peter Hughes. It is being directed by Patricia Riggen, executive produced by Debra Martin Chase and choreographed by Chris Scott.

I’ll watch, but only if one of the characters is given a showcase song & dance number to rival Zac Efron’s “bravura” golf course solo in High School Musical 2 (some of the most unintentionally hilarious footage ever committed to celluloid).
I’ve worked with Hayley Kiyoko on the last two made for TV Scooby Doo movies (cartoon network and warner bros.) and I have to say this girl is going to be a huge star. Besides being a great actress, she just went on tour with Justin Bieber. I’m telling you, check this girl out she wont disappoint.
I suppose meeting in Honor Club is not edgy enough. Frankly, people meeting in detention probably couldn’t last as a band. It’s hard enough to keep a group of cooperative people together. More miseducation!
Okay, so HELLO!! Adam Hicks from Zeke and Luther??? He looks like Opie. Bridgit Mendler is adorable and shes a great pick! Even if Adam can sing, dance, whatever…HES SOOO NOT HOT!! Bad choice. Girls wanna see hot guys, not freckled face gingers. The other guys in this do look really cute tho so thats what girls wanna see. Tell Disney boo on the lead guy.
I gotta agree with Lilly that Adam Hicks is far from being a Zac Efron type. Sorry, but the guy doesn’t inspire girls to swoon. He’s more like the annoying brother that you’d wish would go away. (Sorry Adam) You guys need to either find a newcomer or throw someone like Nick Jonas in there. You want instant audience? The talented young JoBro would mean instant success and lots and lots of swooning! Just sayin’.
