Disney has acquired the pitch Monster Witness Relocation Program by writers Ahmet Zappa and Michael Wilson. The pitch’s based on an original idea by Ahmet Zappa. Zappa’s Monsterfoot Productions will produce with Overbrook Entertainment. Word is that the film will be developed as a potential star vehicle for Karate Kid star Jaden Smith, but that hasn’t solidified yet.
Studio years ago acquired Zappa’s kid novel The Monstrous Memoirs of a Mighty McFearless, about a brother and sister who discover they hail from a long line of monster hunters. They have to learn the family business quick when their father is kidnapped and they take on the most diabolical creature in the universe.

Michael Wilson? He wrote Ice Age, right? This is going to be awesome!
the film sounds like it will be interesting. always wondered what types of films Disney would ever make if they teamed up with a unique mind like Amet Zappa.
Finally teamed up with him? The dude has been sitting in an office in the Old Animation Building for years, collecting a paycheck for doing nothing. Somehow he’s convinced people there that he’s some kind of writing genius when really he delivers a big fat zero on the page. We’ll see how far this project goes, just like the novel he sold years ago that just collects dust – like him.
You are a nasty, mean muther
Huh? Weren’t you recently fired by Ahmet? Sounds like you have a lot of animosity young man!
He’s actually not in the old animation building anymore.
You are a rude person
Wow. What a shitty and stupid thing to write. Spoken like a scarred and jaded writer. I’ve met and spent time with Ahmet on two occasions and he’s an excellent guy – at least worthy of a “congratulations” and totally undeserving of a cutting and angry post like this. The dude is wickedly creative and a supernaturally decent person. I’m looking forward to seeing him grow in this business.
Congratulations to him.
This wins the best title of the year award. Zappa is such a talented guy. One can only imagine how this is going to come out. Excited.
Yes it sounds wonderful, but I am not a fan of Overlook and especially Jaden Smith. Little snot
Dear Deadline Reader,
Why so angry? There couldn’t be a nicer, friendlier, or more creative individual working in this town. Yes, he’s unconventional, but it sounds like you’ve got a real chip on your shoulder.
And for your information, a) His office hasn’t been in the Animation Building for a very long time, and b) A writer was hired last week to adapt his novel.
xoxo
Congratulations to Ahmet and Michael! Sounds like a wonderful project. Could be a great stage vehicle too!
Uh, gee, folks if you’re gonna shill for a friend learn how to make the stuff sound halfway legit. “I think he was the writer behind Ice Age. This will be fantastic!” and, “Best title of the year. Ahmet is so talented!” doesn’t quite ring true, especially the latter. You’re talking about an unproduced writer whose only book that I know of was read by family and friends only according to the rankings.
Second This. We at The House that Mouse built see this going in with a several few Children of celebs that are on retainer here. If you really knew how much he gets paid to do nothing you would vomit!

I say team this project up with one of those super producers the Mouse House has under its wide umbrella. How about the guy who produced that country bears movie. That them there was some fine filmmaking, yes sir-eeee. Barnburner!
Michael was part of a 3 to 5 member team for ICE AGE;
as well as THE TUXEDO flick with Jackie Chan and the new spec,
INVENTORY.
Mike’s put his time in the trenches, working on his writing.
Good to see a real hard working writer having more and more success.
Write on, right on, Mr. Mike.
MARK11
Get your facts straight:
a) He doesn’t have an office on the lot.
b) Last week a writer was hired to adapt his novel.
c) He’s wildly talented, a true genius and has more things going that you ever will.
He’s the real deal. Don’t be a hater. So please slither back under whatever rock you came out from.
It’s marshmallow-roastin’, popcorn-munchin’ fun watching the same two people pretending to to be multiple people and then arguing meaninglessness at each other. 4 billion years of evolution must be very disappointed.
I have had the honor and priviledge of being a friend and fitness trainer to Ahmet for the past decade. Ahmet is the most brilliant quick witted, kind genius of an angel on this planet today. His sisters Diva and Moon are his closest friends and Ive never witnessed a more loving family. He isn’t an addict and will be the first person to help a friend in need or throw a suprise birthday party. This man deserves every ounce of success his genius mind can entertain us with. Stop being haters to someone who has a lot of genius left to give us all. He is very much his fathers son and I love him very much – Teresa Olsen
as a writer who’s worked with ahmet i can report that he is a warm, wacky, wonderful, inventive, wild, enthusiastic and inspirational ham bone who is a pleasure to be around and even more fun to create with…
and no, this isn’t michael.
Sheesh! Where did all that animosity come from? I worked at Disney a few years ago and not only does Ahmet have a lot of great ideas but he is truly a kind person. In an industry chock-full of talentless jerks, why are you targeting this guy?
I am hoping the monsters of the film include some characters and a chapter that represents a portion of the hate & kill mongers of God’s Grey Earth. Hopefully relocated to a remote island where interested parties can watch them all kill one another on a pay per view special. Not that I want to watch people get killed but the drama sets a message of just how animalistic many humans get. In all sincerity best of success to Ahmet on this project!
Golly gosh – it looks like a bit of a personality clash. I don’t know the guy – but at least he’s getting an original script out there.
Unlike the hacks who remake everything, and in a growing number of cases, just re-release the same movie.
Demoncat sounds like a frustrated politician who would not know great entertainment if it jumped up and bit him in the backside
I know Ahmet because of his music, not much because his novels or comics but I’m glad to see that he’s got new projects going on. Dweezil also has been working hard with his band doing tours every year. check out Zappa plays Zappa.
First of all to get anything done in this town is a Sisyphus task. So big fat congratulations to him. As a writer, I had a terrific experience with Ahmet’s MonsterFoot. Great people. Ahmet has a tremendous creative gift. I loved his book and every creative meeting we had. I put him in league with Tim Burton. Keep shining, Ahmet. Rock that Monster!
