It looks like the negotiations between the Walt Disney Co and Time Warner Cable for a new carriage agreement may not go down to the wire after all. On IHaveChoices.com, the website Disney launched last month in response to TWC’s RollOverOrGetTough.com, the company has posted the following statement.
The Walt Disney Co. and Time Warner Cable have made significant progress in our negotiations for continued distribution of ABC, Disney and ESPN networks and services. We are now focusing all our attention on a successful conclusion of these efforts prior to the September 2 deadline.
UPDATE Sunday AM: TWC issued an almost identical statement on its site RollOverOrGetTough. Additionally, both companies have toned down rhetoric on their sites and have pulled attack advertising, a clear sign they consider an agreement pretty much a done deal. Among the issues at hand were retransmission consent fees for 4 ABC O&O stations sought by Disney, increases in carriage fees for the company’s cable channels ESPN, Disney Channel and ABC Family, a deal for new channel Disney Jr., which will replace SoapNet, as well as fees for Web-based ESPN3.com.

So two MONEY-HUNGRY GREEDY corporations who don’t give a shit about their customers have made “Significant Progress” in their Carriage Negoitations…
That can mean only one thing: they have both come close to how much they intend to raise rates and screw us customers. Watch Time-Warner give cable-TV fees another rate-hike.
THE WORST THING IS THAT I DON’T WANT ESPN OR ANY OF ITS SPORTS CHANNELS- YET I HAVE TO PAY FOR EVERY DAMN ONE OF THEM.
I’m with you Jon. Any agreement between Disney and TWC should make ESPN a la carte so I don’t have to pay for it (I understand it is one of the most, if not the most, expensive channel forced on all cable subscribers).
I feel the same way (Or I felt the same way before I just decided to not pay for any of it.)
The first company to offer an “opt out” of any channel I want to opt out of, in return for a reduced rate exactly equal to what the provider has to pay (per subscription) to broadcast that channel, might get me to again pay for TV reception.
For now between the shows on the internet, what I can pick up via an old fashioned antenna, and dvd rentals (which are very very cheap now) I have more than enough of this this type of entertainment.
Mostly I miss CNN, next would be Disney (but still not worth dealing with Cable or Satellite companies to get it).
Besides I am really tired of the gimmick based satellite and Cable offers.
Jon- They have Lifetime and other woman’s channels for you too
When will we wake up and realize these big corporations, with no anti trust worries, have no concern for its customers but the monthly billing. remember the Academy Awards in NYC. Why not break them all up, get people to work and have some good old competition. Please excuse my rant Mr. Redstone, Murdoch, ect
Comcast is the same way. With all of the computer technology available today why can’t I sit down and pick my own personalized cable channels package?
Not a single thing on all the Disney/ABC/ESPN channels worth watching. Give us alacart cable selections, I’ll gladly pay for what I WANT to watch.
i cant believe this is happening ,,again.remember this happened last year at end of year 2009 .same situation and of course time warner cable says that its them and the other people say its time warner cable .your word against mine ..well anyhow i pay 3.99 for dsny on demand and i also have disney ..which i watch all the time ..so if this game contiues and they pull disney .well lets just say .. i wont be a happy customer .. i will save my self 3.99 plus cable but i do hope it all works out..people its greed thats the bottom line.and this world is getting worse..companies are going under and comnpanies are getting worse and yet we are getting the shaft every time with increases but when will we wake up..why dont we go on strike ? hey ever think of that one ? ..
