EXCLUSIVE: In his first US series gig since his starring role on FX’s The Riches, Eddie Izzard is joining the third season of the Showtime comedy United States of Tara in a major recurring role. United States of Tara stars Toni Collette as Tara Gregson, a wife and mother who struggles with Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID). Izzard will play Tara’s brilliant psychology professor who starts as a DID skeptic, but becomes fascinated with Tara as a subject, leading him to explore the condition further. Collette won an Emmy for her role on the show, whose third season will begin production mid-September in Los Angeles for a 2011 premiere.
British actor and standup comedian Izzard, repped by UTA and the Collective, was recently featured in the documentary BELIEVE: The Eddie Izzard Story, which was nominated for an Emmy in the best nonfiction special category.

He’s too good for that show.
W/ any luck he’s merely doing penance & Showtime will give him his own.
Another Brit getting another role on an American show. This is ridiculous. The only way to get roles now if you are American actor…pretend you are a Brit or Aussie!
Bite your tongue! That’s like saying that prime rib is just another slab of meat. Eddie is brilliant!
Awesome, he was the best thing in the snoozer the day of the triffids and he”s damn sexy in pants or a dress
He’s not just “another brit”…he’s a unique one of a kind talent that any production in the world would be lucky to get.
Sing Hallelujah! Eddie’s coming back to the small screen! My life just got immensely better, and I have a whole lotta remedial Tara watching to do. For someone who doesn’t give a crap about celebrities and who doesn’t own a t.v., this news makes me unreasonably happy!
I love Izzard in just about everything, but let’s be honest…he really kinda ruined “Day Of The Triffids”.
Damned right Glenn. Edie Izzard can do it all. He can do comedy. He can do drama. He can tap-dance his way right into America’s heart wearing a Sunday dress.
Now all I’m thinking about is how much I want another season of ‘The Riches’…
Damn.
Wow Izzard with Toni Collette, those are two wonderful actors working together. Too bad both of them are wasted on the insipid piece of _____ that is the United States of Tara.
Yay to Eddie. I will start watching again. Hope he doesn’t have to do a dopey American accent though; I’d much rather here is real voice. (Speaking French, if possible.)
Hear his, not here is. Saw that one just as I hit ‘submit.’ Death to egregious typos!
He has no idea just how famous he is going to be. He has only touched the tip of the iceberg. I have never seen such genious in any performer. Robin williams, may be one of his kindred spirits. Go Eddy. Can’t wait. You’re gonna kill em. They better be ready !!!!!!
Although i think that it does seem to be many brits and aussies are coming to the states, and being movie/tv stars, you can’t lump eddie into this grouping. He is obviously different, but also a genious. I am a huge eddie izzard fan, and i think that no matter how much the show (or occasional movie) that he is on may suck, (usually the plots) he does the best he possible can for what he is doing, and even as a background (or even just not main) character, he seems to weasel his way into your heart as a favorite. (A gorgeous favorite i might add)
